Dear Colleagues I am new to this list so apologies if this has been answered before. We are considering not loading serials into Koha as many of our subscriptions are now electronic. Instead we are considering using Serial Solutions to add our print holdings (diminishing each year) Has anyone else done this? Checkin for serials is a problem but if we leave the entries open on incoming print titles and close them off when no longer available that might work. It would mean re educating our clients to look in one place for serials and another for books etc, but our clients have already forgotten to look at the catalogue and go straight to the A-Z o journals!!!! Any guidance would be appreciated. I liked your idea, it made sense. I found the only difference in items was cn_source and itype. However, changing these does not solve my problem. Alas. I tried and failed. But it hasn't all been in vain. Playing around I noticed that the Edit Items radio button (from the Details page) returns this url; http://debian:8080/cgi-bin/koha/cataloguing/additem.pl?biblionumber=4796 (I cannot really do anything on this page, except deleting the item) and the route through the barcode from the Details page brings me to Item Details to edit Items (the one under the barcode, not the radio button) returns this url; http://debian:8080/cgi-bin/koha/cataloguing/additem.pl?op=edititem&biblionu… But on this page I have an "Edit item #4796" I still cannot do anything with the existing item, except delete it, but all the needed fields are present below it, and clicking on save changes will work. Also still wondering; where does it get the itype information? I am not yet pulling my hair out, but it's not far away... Reserving items with a specific "need by" date in Koha

Hello Koha group! I'm a solo librarian at the Texas Commission on Fire Protection. I'm thinking of using Koha for a library cataloging/reserves/serials solution. The one thing that I think makes my library unique is that we lend training materials and often these are borrowed by training officers who have to preschedule their training. Thus, we need a system that will allow the users to specify the date they will receive the item. Right now we use a clunky Access DB which works with our website. Users can look up an item online, then use an online form to send a request with two dates (1st choice and 2nd choice). The system then sends me a reservation email, I go into the system, see if the item is available for when they need it, reserve the item for the user if it's available, then send them a new email with a reservation confirmation. I won't go on about this process, but as you can tell it is very labor intensive. I was hoping to find an open source option to use once we stop using Office altogether. I can tell Koha would be good for setting up user profiles, cataloging, serials acquisitions, etc. My question today is, I see Koha has a reservation module but can the user specify when they get the item? Any help, or ideas, anyone out there can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, in advance! We're looking at analyticals, but haven't implemented it yet. Still cleaning up the raw data for import (I'm only working on this 2 days a week). We'll be using the 773 field for parent items. As we've got lots of records for journal articles, and conference papers in proceedings, it will in the end be an important part of our catalogue. But I'm going to start with the importing the less complicated stuff (books) first. Preliminary tests seemed to indicate that it will work, though I never did manage to get the linking to function. That was several months ago though. Music notation or printed music - how to make it obvious

For some reason, in all the years that our little library has been in existence, no one has bothered to specify when a publication is primarily music notation. I'm changing this as we migrate to Koha (nearly half our stuff is music notation), but before I take the plunge I need to think about how it will work, and what it will look like. It's my understanding that Koha stores Leader information, but does nothing with it, is this correct? I want something that will show up clearly, is easily spotted. Not buried somewhere in the physical description or down in a notes field. I'm disinclined to use general material designations, but that could be one way. The other thought was item type. Collections seem less intuitive somehow, and as we have lots of special collections which might contain individual publications of music notation, I'm not sure if that works. Fine Rules according to days

Dear All. I have a problem with managing the fines according to the days loaned. Here is what I need Type of book Amount per day Patrons Days Reference NRs. 5 Students, Staff, Teachers Over Night (24 hr) Short Term NRs. 2 Students, Staff, Teachers 2-7 Days Text Book NRs. 1 Student and Staff 15 Days Teachers 1 month What should I do to incorporate this? Should I use the due date field manually at the time of issue, or is there any better way. Also, how do I change the default currency from $ to NRs. I have made the value of NRs. as 1.00 and $ as 70.00 but still the fine rules box shows $ in the field. How do I change that? Please Help. KohaCon : Auckland to Wellington by road.

Hi all, I have been putting together a bit of a plan for escorting KohaCon attendees down to Wellington from Auckland via Rotorua. My thinking so far: Friday 22nd October: arrive in Auckland, dinner at Viaduct somewhere. Stay night in Auckland. Saturday 23rd October: Leisurely drive down to Rotorua (about 3 hours drive). Thermal pools etc. Evening event at Te Puia: http://www.tepuia.com/things-to-see-and-do/te-po.html Sunday drive down to Wellington via Huka Falls, Taupo, Gravity Canyon for the idiots who want to bungy or do something else insane involving great heights and high speeds: http://www.gravitycanyon.co.nz/ (about 5 hours driving in total) Evening in Wellington ready for KohaCon next day. Vans are proving problematic but big cars are about $150 - 200 a day (seat 4) . Accommodation say $150-$200 a night Te Po $99 (night only) or $130 (day as well) Petrol say $120 a car So how does this sound? I am happy to fly up and escort people down. Duplicate Records Created When Importing Large Batch of, Records into Koha

Hi, Thankyou all for your help and answers. I can use these as future references. The problem was clicking on the import button *more than once. * My work colleague didn't think anything was happening as it was taking a while to import the records because it was quite a large batch so she *clicked on the import button more than once *which created duplicates half way through the import process. It was confusing because whilst I was editing and checking these records there was only one bib record for each duplicate and the correct number of records had been imported. When it came time to revert the records,* I clicked on the revert button more than once.* When our IT cleaned up and reindexed the system and we started the process again it worked properly as we only clicked on the import and revert button ONCE!
