Creating original MARC records in Koha
by Amber Amland 12 Apr '10

12 Apr '10

We're in the process of upgrading from 2.2.3 to 3.0 (which is very exciting!). Cataloging in MARC looks different. All the fields are the same, but how do you get them to expand (not add another one of the same thing) so you can type information in the box? In the old Koha, all the boxes are there and you just fill in the ones you need. I'm very confused! I can import MARC records and copy catalog, but I need to be able to create original records also. shelf browser not working
by Amy Schuler 09 Apr '10

09 Apr '10

Hello, I noticed that the shelf browser feature is not functioning for me. When I click on it in the OPAC, for any record, it causes the page to blink/reset but it does not actually work. I assume that clicking on an arrow should allow me to see the previous or next catalog item in call number order, correct? I double-checked the sys pref and the shelf browser is on. I am running Koha v. 3.00. My collection is quite small (less than 10,000 bibs). Any ideas? Thanks. a Amy C. Re: [Koha] Journal articles and analytical records
by Jared Camins-Esakov 09 Apr '10

09 Apr '10

Dear Kathy, et. al., Returning to the subject of the display of 773s, I have submitted two patches today for 3.2/3.4 (depending on whether these are classified as bugfixes or not). The first fixes the semantics of indicator 1 for MARC fields 780 and 785, and the second provides preliminary support for display of 773s (according to the OCLC bib formats documentation, these are the only three fields in the 76x-78x range that should display). See Bugzilla reports (which include patches): http://bugs.koha.org/cgi-bin/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=4370 http://bugs.koha.org/cgi-bin/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=4371 The 773 display and linking is very crude. The link merely consists of a search on 773$a and 773$t, which is probably not the behavior that most people will want, in light of the earlier discussion about $x, etc. earlier, but I figure imitating the way 780s and 785s are handled is a good start, and a simple change that's unlikely to cause anyone any problems. More precise (and useful) linking with $x etc. would probably require additional configuration on a per-library basis. For example, at the ANS we would like the 773s to link only to the parent record, and the parent records to have a link to search for child records, which requires a great deal of additional Zebra configuration. Any thoughts would be welcome (and if someone who is familiar with the wiki would like to create a wiki page for discussing analytics, I would be happy to move the discussion of analytics over there). Hopefully this will be of use to others, as well. Query classification
by Nicholas Gallagher 09 Apr '10

09 Apr '10

The Query: As a growing specialist academic library, I recently designed a classification scheme appropriate to our needs as neither Dewey nor Lib. of Cong. was suitable. Could you briefly have a look at a few examples of our faceted scheme to assess whether Koha would have any problems reading the sequences? ( A1:C5 ) ; ( F:A20.P ) ; ( H9.0:C30 ) ; ( J7.02:L40 ) I've only recently qualified in Information Services Management and have very little experience. Any advice would gratefully be received. Best wishes, Nick.
