Hello and question
by Kate Etheredge 26 Apr '10

26 Apr '10

Hello Koha Community, I am writing to introduce myself and my library. We have decided to work with LibLime on implementing Koha at our library and we're interested in keeping up with the community. Mt Laurel Public Library is a small branch library in Alabama. We went live this month (the 10th). Everything is going well except that I have noticed that the books I have added to the catalog in the past week or so are not showing up in the OPAC. They are in the log and they check out but searching them does nothing. If you have any advice for us, feel free to share. Thank you very much, Kate Etheredge Branch Manager

Help needed in Overdue Mails sending
by nitesh rijal 26 Apr '10

26 Apr '10

Hello all. This is the 3rd time I'm posting the same problem in this mailing list. I am using KOHA 3.00.03 and have set up libraries to be used with it. Now, I want to send overdue notices to the students who have an overdue. I have tried all the available options but all in vain. It is not sending mails at all. I have also written in the cron jobs but still the same. I kindly request anyone who has successfully setup the mail sending functionality in KOHA, to make a small how-to (step-by-step) so that it may help me and others like me. Please Reply to this ASAP. Fwd: Another authorities issue
by Nicole Engard 26 Apr '10

26 Apr '10

Hi all, Any ideas about this? Is there a bug reporting that this doesn't work? Nicole ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Agnes Rivers-Moore <arm(a)hanover.ca> Date: Fri, Dec 4, 2009 at 5:34 PM Subject: Another authorities issue To: Nicole Engard <nengard(a)gmail.com> Hi Nicole I remember that the Koha prefs manual mentioned that there should be a way to build authorities 'on the fly' - "BiblioAddsAuthorities Defines if a new biblio will check for existing authority record and create one on-the-fly if one doesn't exist. Values: * ON = a new biblio will check for existing authority record and create one on-the-fly if one doesn't exist." However I have not been able to get that to work. It seems that as you found, you can't do anything if the pref is set to ON. Also we would need to know more about how this is done (as the whole point of authorities is to avoid similar variations of the same name, the system should at least prompt the cataloguer with close matches before creating a new authority automatically). So, while you are on the trail, please could you ask around and see whether that is supposed to work, and if so, document how? Many thanks for all your work on a unified manual. I know this can be a thankless and unending task, so - we do appreciate it! Agnes -- Agnes Rivers-Moore Assistant Librarian Hanover Public Library

Workflow (Repair, Cleaning, Binder)
by Melanie Hedgespeth 26 Apr '10

26 Apr '10

We are looking at possibilities for workflow regarding materials that need to repaired, cleaned, sent to bindery, etc. Do you utilize users, and just check the items out to a repair user, bindery user OR do you change the "status" and/or "location" of those items? Or do you have a different workflow for these items that need to be out of general circulation for a time? Thanks! cataloguing error message and 003 control identifier
by William Moody 26 Apr '10

26 Apr '10

Two parts to this question: Does our Library need to get a control identifier number from the marc organization code in order to successfully add records or can the default OSt work? We do not have a 003 identifier and when I try to add a record we are receiving the following message : Koha error >The following fatal error has occurred: >Tag "" is not a valid tag. at /home/express/kohaclone/C4/Biblio.pm line 1796 >Apache Server version: Apache/2.2.3 Server built: Jul 14 2009 21:58:41 >Koha 3.00.02.012 >Koha DB 3.0002012 >MySQL mysql Ver 14.12 Distrib 5.0.32, for pc-linux-gnu (x86_64) using readline 5.2 >OS Linux vav.ec2.liblime.com 2.6.21.7-2.fc8xen #1 SMP Fri Feb 15 12:34:28 EST 2008 x86_64 >Perl 5.008008 Can you tell us how to get a 003 marc code identifier if we need it? thank you for your time in advance: Har Zion Temple Rudofker Library

Re: [Koha] kbarcode question
by Marty 25 Apr '10

25 Apr '10

Someone had a question about querying the database in kbarcode, instead of clicking on reply I clicked on delete (anybody else have these bright moments?), so here goes; Make sure that kbarcode can and does connect to your koha database. (By default it is set to something else) Then you just can enter mysql queries into your label. Sorry, I won't be home until Wednesday the 28th of April, then I will be able to give you a more detailed reply if you want or need, you can e-mail me your question. Sometimes life can be made easier by adding a custom table for kbarcode to use. Marty

Availability (& Zebra?)
by Scott Daniels 25 Apr '10

25 Apr '10

Hi, I am hoping to get some help with an issue I am having with our Koha(v3.00.05.003) installation. This is a new installation and biblio/item data has been imported via MARC records. All of our items imported correctly, we imported patrons and manually populated the issues table with data from the previous system. The problem we are having is, in the search screen (ie cgi-bin/koha/opac-search.pl?q=test). The books are ALL reported to be on loan. (Availability: No items available: Checked out (1)) The reality is, some are available, some are not. This is ACCURATELY(and contradictory to the search screen) reflected in the details screen for each book (cgi-bin/koha/opac-detail.pl?biblionumber=733), this will list the items with their correct status, available or checked out. In my research I found that Availability is calculated based on 5 fields, notforloan(0); damaged(0); itemlost(0); wthdrawn(0) and onloan(null). These are all accurately set in our data. I looked into the code (/usr/share/koha/lib/C4/Search.pm line 1249) and it seems that the availability is retrieved from the Zebra index for the search screen, and not the data, unless I am misinterpreting the comment. # 'available' is defined as (items.onloan is NULL) and (items.itemlost = 0) # In English: # all records not indexed in the onloan register (zebra) and all records with a value of lost equal to 0 The scenario of a 'Zebra onloan register' not being populated would 'fit' my problem in my mind, as it is only on the search screen that availability is wrongly presented. My question is how can I populate this 'register'? I have run zebra_rebuild -v -b -w , this has had no effect. -- Regards, Scott Daniels TechnologyWise Ltd, Tauranga, NZ scott(a)tw.co.nz ph: +64 (0)7 571 1060 fax: +64 (0)7 571 1061
