PTFS Koha Community Support and the Koha.org Website
by John Yokley 24 Apr '10

24 Apr '10

As you know, PTFS acquired LibLime and is integrating the LibLime operation into our existing open source software business unit. With this acquisition, PTFS inherited quite a few tasks, all to be performed simultaneously, and our work is not near complete. However, we want to increase our involvement within the community now, at this early phase of the transition. As promised, PTFS will continue to support the Koha open source community. We understand that the http://koha-community.org/ website was set up as a temporary measure before our purchase of LibLime, out of concerns that the content of koha.org was out of date and was not under the control of official members of the community. To resolve this issue PTFS would like help in updating and supporting koha.org. * * To that end, we email to solicit community volunteers to support and update portions of the koha.org web site in a collaborative fashion similar to how it worked about a year ago. We understand that people in the elected Koha roles had editing rights to the following areas on the site: 1. Documentation 2. Downloads 3. Release Manager and Maintainer 4. Translation Manager 5. etc. If the current or former persons in these or other roles are interested in taking over these website responsibilities again, and returning to a collaborative model for support of the koha.org site, please contact Kelly Sherman at ksherman(a)liblime.com. In addition, PTFS is happy to remain the host of the git repository and have already set up a ‘new_features’ branch for the next version with permissions to push granted to Chris Cormack. PTFS looks forward to continuing our work with the community to mutually advance the goal of producing the world’s best open source ILS system that can truly go head-to-head with the legacy proprietary systems. git.koha-community.org hosting
by Brendan Gallagher 24 Apr '10

24 Apr '10

Hello All - I've recently realized that there isn't a git.koha-community.org site for hosting code. I'm am proposing that ByWater Solutions provide server space for hosting a git repo with an address of git.koha-community.org The main control and configuration will be managed by the koha-community.org Release Managers, Release Maintainers, and Translation Managers and anybody else designated to push patches. We will gladly take all help and recommendations for configuration, appropriate security, and access rights for all involved. The manner in which we plan on hosting git - is access for all. All those interested in helping please contact myself or Ian Walls ( ian.walls(a)bywatersolutions.com ) and of course please make sure to post comments here in the mail-list so that we can all follow along. IRC is also great too. A preview of the webspace is here --> http://git.koha-community.org Thanks, Brendan As a side note, if and when this is fine with everyone, we will wait for the Release Managers to let us know when to start pulling and cloning. The site is still being tested by the Release Managers. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Brendan A. NCIP/FullfILLment
by Jim Minges 23 Apr '10

23 Apr '10

Chris, After a bit of investigation, it is not yet clear whether use of the FulfILLment connector system will require that Koha be NCIP compliant. While that reduces its urgency, I believe NCIP compliance is nonetheless important for Koha in the long run. NEKLS would tentatively be willing to be one partner in an NCIP development project, provided that we gain some assurance from our support vendor (PTFS) that the NCIP enhancement would be made available to their customers, whether using community Koha (such as NEKLS) or LLEK, as well as the entire Koha community. Jim Chris Cormack wrote: Hi Jim I agree adding NCIP support would be great, and there was/is a project called openncip that was set up to do just that. So speaking as one of the members of the community, are you willing to sponsor some work on it ? :-) Maybe you can get together some like minded libraries, write up an enhancement request and then get someone to work on it. shelf browser patch for Koha v. 3.00.01.005 - some trouble
by Amy Schuler 23 Apr '10

23 Apr '10

Hello, We applied the patch to fix the bug that prevents the shelf browser feature of Koha 3.00.01.005 from working. Unfortunately, it just results in error messages (error 404) and does not fix the problem. Has anyone else had any trouble applying the patch and getting it to work? Is there a trick I am missing? We did reindex the database after applying the patch. Thanks! Amy C. Koha, ILL & FulfILLment™
by Magnus Enger 23 Apr '10

23 Apr '10

Hi! A while back there was some talk about adding ILL-functionality to Koha, resulting in this wiki page: http://wiki.koha.org/doku.php?id=en:development:inter_library_loan Then Equinox announced the FulfILLment™ project: http://fulfillment-ill.org/ "FulfILLment will join the basic process of the scalable Evergreen library software with "connectors" to other integrated library systems creating a virtual union catalog for library systems or networks implementing FulfILLment." So my question is this: Do you think this project makes it unnecessary do develop ILL-functionality tightly integrated into Koha? I can't help notice that the (brief) descriptions on the website seems to indicate that FulfILLment™ will only be useful among libraries that use FulfILLment™, there is no indication of talking to the world at large, using some of the protocols mentioned on our wiki page. This may be the result of FulfILLment™ being a sponsored project and the spec from the customer not saying anything about talking to the wider world. And since this is free software it will of course be possible to implement desired functionality once the source is out in the open. My second question: is this worth waiting for or is there enough ILL-momentum in Koha to implement the functionality without waiting for FulfILLment™? About KOHA Search functionalities & Data Migration
by nitesh rijal 23 Apr '10

23 Apr '10

Hello all.... I am using KOHA 3.00.03 in Debian Lenny. I have not looked into new versions of KOHA and I don;t know if the following features are there. I just wanted to know if it is possible to list all the records in the library in a single search. I mean to say that is there a function like "List all Records". I have a requirement from client that what if they want to keep all their records sorted Alphabetically and get them Printed in sheets so that they know what records are available. I think this kind of feature is not available in KOHA right now. If this is available please tell me where is it located. If not available then I'd like to start making one such function, please give me some guidelines as where to start. Another request I got was the ability to export all the records into Document format. I guess that is not possible because the records are in MARC. I'd like to try that as well if it is acheiveable. Lastly, I'm facing a problem while entering a record in Nepali Unicode. While I try to save the record it gives an error saying "Wide Unicode Character", something like that. What may be the possible error? Please Help. Thank you. -- Nitesh Rijal BE IT rijal.it(a)gmail.com http://niteshrijal.com.np http://facebook.com/openrijal http://twitter.com/openrijal +9779841458173
