Hi all, Just a reminder that the official call for proposals (https://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?formkey=dGJjUWtHMTE2X0J0Vm5ENXlaSn…) for KohaCon10 (http://kohacon.appspot.com/) has been made. All Items Checked Out in OPAC
by Chris Hobbs 20 Apr '10

20 Apr '10

Hi all, Working on our conversion project. I can successfully import MARC records from our existing ILS, and populate the issues table based on lists derived from our existing system. When searching for biblios in the staff client, search.pl correctly displays the number of items available and on loan. However, in OPAC, the same search shows "No copies available" in opac-search.pl for every title. Clicking through on a title (opac-detail.pl) correctly shows the number available and on loan. See here http://koha.nhusd.k12.ca.us/cgi-bin/koha/opac-search.pl?q=html&limit=branch… ( http://koha.nhusd.k12.ca.us/cgi-bin/koha/opac-search.pl?q=html&limit=branch… ) and follow the first title for an example. Any ideas on where to start looking? I assume there's a field somewhere that isn't getting updated when I do my import, but I've no idea what to go after. Thanks for any advice, Chris Hobbs Director, Technology New Haven Unified School District -- This message was scanned by ESVA and is believed to be clean.

OPAC issue reported by patron
by Rich Boulet 20 Apr '10

20 Apr '10

Hello everyone: Any ideas what is happening on the patron side of things? Are other libraries getting similar complaints? I don't think it is realistic to expect patrons to use a different browser for our site. Here is the setup: A patron reported the following: <snip> I logged into my account and looked at the books I have checked out. I clicked on My Reading History and was bounced out. I had to log in again--and was automatically sent to My Reading History. Next, I clicked on My Purchase Suggestions and the same thing happened--bounced out, logged in, automatically sent to My Purchase Suggestions. I entered a new purchase suggestion, clicked Submit and the same thing happened again, bounced out, logged in again, automatically sent to My Purchase Suggestions. [on] a new PC--about 2 weeks ago. Windows 7, 64 bit running IE8 (cipher strength: 256 bit), browser accepts cookies, problem with website just started today. I don't have such a problem with other sites that I have to log on to, including secure sites (banks, brokerage, etc.) </snip> I asked our support company and they responded: <snip> 1. She may have too many programs running at the same time or need to clear their cache and refresh. 2. Let her know Internet Explorer does not conform to Web Browser development standards, I remember some of our customers had some really squirrely issues with timeouts and data not loading properly when they used IE. So we always recommend that libraries/patrons rely on another browser (such as Mozilla) when using Koha. </snip> Our Koha config is: Koha version: 3.01.00.061 MySQL version: mysql Ver 14.12 Distrib 5.0.51a, for debian-linux-gnu (x86_64) using readline 5.2 Apache version: Server version: Apache/2.2.9 (Debian) Zebra version: Zebra 2.0.40 (C) 1994-2009, Index Data ApS Zebra is free software, covered by the GNU General Public License, and you are welcome to change it and/or distribute copies of it under certain conditions. An interesting concept while perusing the DSpace website, they have Ambassadors. While I think the email list is very helpful, perhaps an additional resource could be an Ambassador program? Lenora StreamNet Regional Librarian Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission http://www.fishlib.org

942 field added when item record is edited in Cataloging module
by Stacy Pober 20 Apr '10

20 Apr '10

We are using LibLime Enterprise Koha. I set the system up so that items with the ITYPE of EBOOKS, display a "View this eBook" link in the summary results. (This was set up in: Home › Administration › Item Types › Modify Item Type 'EBOOKS' kSummary: <a href="[856u]">View this eBook</a>) Most of the time it works. But some ITYPE=EBOOKS records do not display the Summary "View this eBook" link in the search results. I've been investigating why this is the case. It seems that ALL of the records that I edited in Koha lose their "View this eBook" link. For some strange reason, when I edited some of the item record in Koha's cataloging module, the system automatically inserted the following field: 942 _2ddc _c1W AV I was adding 505 fields, and did not change or add the 942 or any 9xx field. As far as I can tell, all the ebook records with 942 fields lose the "View this eBook" link. What are the 942$2 and 942$c fields in Koha and why would they be added automatically to any edited record? Why does the presence of these 942 subfields suppress the Summary (the "View this eBook" link)? How do I prevent this problem when editing records? I want to edit specfic fields without the system generating extra MARC fields that do not seem necessary and which muck up the display of the records. Can someone test to see if this happens in real Koha? I don't know if it's an issue with Koha generally, or only with LibLime Enterprise Koha. -- Stacy Pober Information Alchemist Manhattan College Library Riverdale, NY 10471 stacy.pober(a)manhattan.edu

Koha in Manhattan
by Elaine Bradtke 19 Apr '10

19 Apr '10

Due to the volcanic eruption in Iceland, I find myself unexpectedly detained in Manhattan. I was planning to attend a Koha open day in London on Friday, but won't be able to get there. I was wondering if there was a Koha installation here in New York with a friendly who would be willing to spend some time showing me how their library uses it, and talk to me about how they went about implementing the changeover. While I am sure Koha is the right solution for us, I'm a bit daunted by the transitional process. . . -- Elaine

999 $c and $d, and limits on nu
by Stacy Pober 19 Apr '10

19 Apr '10

In a Koha item record, should the 999$c (BIBLIONUMBER) and 999$d (BIBLIOITEMNUMBER) fields always be identical? We've had some issue show up with the newest LLEK testing where the 999$c and 999$d fields don't match in some records and it causes a situation where users may see a summary record for one item, but clicking on the title link leads to an entirely different item. Why there are even two different fields for biblionumber and biblioitemnumber if the field data is always supposed to be identical for those fields? -- Stacy Pober Information Alchemist Manhattan College Library Riverdale, NY 10471 stacy.pober(a)manhattan.edu

Migrating data from 2.2.9 to 3.00.X: item problems
by Magdalena Söderqvist 19 Apr '10

19 Apr '10

Hi, SIPRI library is attempting to migrate catalogue records from 2.2.9 to 3.00.06.008. I know the latest stable release is 3.00.05, but our IT-guy got a little carried away (and then he went on vacation)! The upgrade however solved a major problem with blank record pages in the opac, but we still have some remaining problems we need help solving. Others have reported similar problems but I haven't been able to figure out how their problems were actually solved, hence this appeal. Problem 1: When importing a normal biblio with only one item to the new version, the one item is split up in two, with Shelf location on one row and Barcode on another. The rest of the item specific information is hidden. If I edit the record and delete one of the items and move the barcode to the remaining item, all the hidden information shows up. So the question is, what is wrong? We use 952c for Shelving location and 952p for Barcode. Also, we don't use actual barcodes, but instead use the barcode field for our accession numbers, for example G10/123 or 10/124. Problem 2: We occasionally catalogue chapters as separate biblios, and when doing so, we have used the same barcode/accession no. for each chapter belonging to the same book. It worked fine in 2.2.9, but since 3.0.x does not seem to accept duplicate barcodes this has now become a problem. Would it be possible/complicated/stupid? to alter the bulcmarcimport.pl to make it allow import of biblios with duplicate barcodes? Is there a better solution? Any help you can offer is much appreciated.
