But Actually your work caught my attention because it goes directly in the point we would like to address. We have a company that wants to know what affects their participant satisfaction. We started an evaluation of Greenstone for our digital collection, then also started evaluating DSpace after we experienced some dissatisfaction with Greenstone. Frankly, I think DSpace is much better in terms of it's feature set and ease of use than Greenstone, and that's what we will be using. I think that a app like DSpace designed specifically for digital data does a better job of displaying the content in it's web interface, which the public sees and uses, than a standard ILS does in an OPAC. http://www.dspace.org/ Greg Lawson Rolling Hills Consolidated Library 1912 N. There are numerous bugs that have fixes which can't be employed due to the "closed" nature of their hosted system. whatis kohaclone, C4, and HEAD

Hello all, As I slowly look under the hood of our koha installation I end up with many questions floating over my head. I am sure that this only happens to me :-). Anyway, I am creating a cheat sheet that references all the directories that relate directly to koha, on my server. Today I am particularly interested to know the purpose of /opt/kohaclone/.. and /opt/kohaclone/C4/.. (I also see /usr/share/koha/lib/C4/..) Perhaps kohaclone is a mirror of some sort - which makes me wonder what process initiates the mirror, eg. cron, and why I need this mirror. I once read that C4 related to work the kiwis were doing long ago, during early development years, and has some humor attached. In 2010, it seems that C4 continues to be central to the program, but I'd like to know how it relates to the rest of the Koha progam. Finally, what does HEAD mean, and where can I find it? I think it has something to do with the git versioning system used by developers to collectively keep track of improvements and bugfixes... I've seen the folks on IRC use this term. I would guess that HEAD means the most current stable branch of the software program. Could you have a HEAD for 3.0.x and HEAD for 3.2.x? All Items Checked Out in OPAC

Hi all, Working on our conversion project. I can successfully import MARC records from our existing ILS, and populate the issues table based on lists derived from our existing system. When searching for biblios in the staff client, search.pl correctly displays the number of items available and on loan. However, in OPAC, the same search shows "No copies available" in opac-search.pl for every title. Clicking through on a title (opac-detail.pl) correctly shows the number available and on loan. OPAC issue reported by patron

Hello everyone: Any ideas what is happening on the patron side of things? Are other libraries getting similar complaints? I don't think it is realistic to expect patrons to use a different browser for our site. Here is the setup: A patron reported the following: <snip> I logged into my account and looked at the books I have checked out. I clicked on My Reading History and was bounced out. I had to log in again--and was automatically sent to My Reading History. Next, I clicked on My Purchase Suggestions and the same thing happened--bounced out, logged in, automatically sent to My Purchase Suggestions. I entered a new purchase suggestion, clicked Submit and the same thing happened again, bounced out, logged in again, automatically sent to My Purchase Suggestions. [on] a new PC--about 2 weeks ago. Windows 7, 64 bit running IE8 (cipher strength: 256 bit), browser accepts cookies, problem with website just started today. I don't have such a problem with other sites that I have to log on to, including secure sites (banks, brokerage, etc.) </snip> I asked our support company and they responded: <snip> 1. She may have too many programs running at the same time or need to clear their cache and refresh. 2. Let her know Internet Explorer does not conform to Web Browser development standards, I remember some of our customers had some really squirrely issues with timeouts and data not loading properly when they used IE. 942 field added when item record is edited in Cataloging module

We are using LibLime Enterprise Koha. I set the system up so that items with the ITYPE of EBOOKS, display a "View this eBook" link in the summary results. (This was set up in: Home › Administration › Item Types › Modify Item Type 'EBOOKS' kSummary: <a href="[856u]">View this eBook</a>) Most of the time it works. But some ITYPE=EBOOKS records do not display the Summary "View this eBook" link in the search results. I've been investigating why this is the case. It seems that ALL of the records that I edited in Koha lose their "View this eBook" link. For some strange reason, when I edited some of the item record in Koha's cataloging module, the system automatically inserted the following field: 942 _2ddc _c1W AV I was adding 505 fields, and did not change or add the 942 or any 9xx field. As far as I can tell, all the ebook records with 942 fields lose the "View this eBook" link. What are the 942$2 and 942$c fields in Koha and why would they be added automatically to any edited record? Why does the presence of these 942 subfields suppress the Summary (the "View this eBook" link)? How do I prevent this problem when editing records? I want to edit specfic fields without the system generating extra MARC fields that do not seem necessary and which muck up the display of the records. Can someone test to see if this happens in real Koha? Koha in Manhattan

Due to the volcanic eruption in Iceland, I find myself unexpectedly detained in Manhattan. I was planning to attend a Koha open day in London on Friday, but won't be able to get there. I was wondering if there was a Koha installation here in New York with a friendly who would be willing to spend some time showing me how their library uses it, and talk to me about how they went about implementing the changeover. While I am sure Koha is the right solution for us, I'm a bit daunted by the transitional process. . . -- Elaine

999 $c and $d, and limits on nu

In a Koha item record, should the 999$c (BIBLIONUMBER) and 999$d (BIBLIOITEMNUMBER) fields always be identical? We've had some issue show up with the newest LLEK testing where the 999$c and 999$d fields don't match in some records and it causes a situation where users may see a summary record for one item, but clicking on the title link leads to an entirely different item.
