I am trying to help a library with a Follett ILS migrate to Koha. Can anyone steer me to info, queries or scripts to help migrate? MARC? Patrons? Transactions? -- Randy Catlin Beaver Crossing Community Library 402.532.3535 rcatlin@windstream.net
MARCEdit is a good tools for working with biblio and copy information to get it ready importing to Koha. Within Koha, there place to import patrons from a delimited file, on that page it gives you the field names. There is one biblio filed you need to move in order to import the data but I forget which one. Follett puts it in one field, which from what I have heard is not a standard field for the info but Koha uses that standard hence the reason you have to move it. You would use the MarcEdit application I mentioned to make these changes. It will take a little bit get use to format of the data if you are not a liberian who has Marc experience. Overall things sent smooth for me. I played with it for about 3 to 4 months before really getting serious with it. The group is really good at giving advice and help when needed, so use it when you can. Thanks! Ed Edward J. Hello, Many Follett installations seem to require extensive analysis of call numbers to determine shelving locations, collection codes, etc. Using the standard Follett system to export data rarely gives the migration manager enough information, but there is a utility available from Follett to help with this. Contact your Follett representative and ask about the "ODBC Driver For Follett". This is available for a very reasonable fee, and allows the user a connection to the Follett database to read all the tables. I would not recommend trying any sort of detailed migration without this driver. I use MSAccess (hold your applause) to do this, and the resulting Access database lets me export everything I need as .csv. The data still needs a lot of work, but it is all there. However, exporting the marc21 records themselves takes place from within the standard Follett system. Converting the follet microlif to .mrc is a pretty simple MarcEdit process. Randy, I second the suggestion to purchase the OBDC driver from Follett -- it's about $100 and will allow you to capture your circulation and patron notes. For just about everything else, take a look at the wiki for the vokal project at http://openilsvt.pbworks.com/. There are some templates in the Box.net widget on the home page of the wiki, and in the sidebar to the right, look for "User Guide" under documentation -- we've migrated several libraries from Follett to Koha using the import steps listed there.
