Authority controlled Series name
by Salvatore Sanfilippo Adacta 10 Jan '15

10 Jan '15

Hi everybody. I'm trying to use UNIMARC field 410 for the authority controlled Series name. In cataloguing everything seems to work properly: when I write the series name in field 410 subfield a, the voice in Authority is created and in the bibliographic record I can see the right koha link code in field 410 subfield 9, The problem is in searching: when I open bibliographic record the link between record and authority fails and when I go to search directly in authority I can see for that voice 0 biblios. So I tried to rebuild zebra indexes. The program rebuild_zebra.pl in verbose mode seems to recreate all indexes but still search doesn't work. The link between biblio and authorities for the other controlled fields works properly, only for 410 I found this problem. I'm using koha 3.18 Any suggestions? Thanks a lot. Testing SIP2 on koha 3.16.1 & koha 3.14
by Abdulsalam Yousef 09 Jan '15

09 Jan '15

Hello all, I've noticed that when connecting to sip server with telnet on koha 3.16.1 and testing some commands like this 2300120080623 172148AOCL|AA123456|ACsipstation01|ADbadpassword We get an answer with an arabic names, it seems to be good for about 30 mins and sometimes about 2 hours like this 24YYYY YY 00120150109 203104AEمحمد احمد|AA123456|AFGreetings from Koha. And after this period the arabic names become (?) like the following: 24YYYY YY 00120150109 203104AE???? ????|AA123456|AFGreetings from Koha. But when i tried koha 3.14 i got the Arabic names very good all the time,So i tried to transfer the sip folder of koha 3.14 to koha 3.16.1 but the problem still found, So the problem wasn't from SIP files. Then i tried to transfer C4 folder of koha 3.14 to koha 3.16.1, and run sip server fon koha 3.16.1, I got the Arabic names very good all the time like koha 3.14, But off-course it makes some errors in koha pages cause of incompatibility, So i think there some changes in C4 folder (.pm) files affect sip server in koha 3.16.1 which violates sip server on koha 3.16.1 after a short time and convert Arabic characters to (?). Any suggestions??? Thanks.

Update a field using SQL
by CTS-Programmer 3 (Paul Dokken) 09 Jan '15

09 Jan '15

Hi am running Koha 3.18. I want to run some SQL queries to update some fields. When I try and run a simple query like UPDATE item SET PRICE = 2.00 WHERE BARCODE = '37000001' it just says executing query until I stop it. I am using MySQL Workbench from the Koha host and running under root user. Anything special I have to do? Re: [Koha] RFID/Koha
by Catherine Kerrigan 09 Jan '15

Just chiming in, we have Koha and an RFID system from FE Technologies. We were the first Koha installation they had done and it took a lot of time and effort to get their software to talk to Koha via SIP - they even had to create a differentiated version of their software for it to work. Since then, however, we haven't had any problems. I would say though we are a very small library with only one self-check kiosk and whilst we have a checkout pad at the librarian's desk, I only use it for encoding tags, not for checking out as that part of the FE Tech software does not work very well with Koha. It works but it's very fiddly and only does single items. When we were looking at RFID systems, Bibliotheca and 3M were the others we looked at. Bibliotheca sent us a quote but weren't interested otherwise. 3M Australia on the other hand have a lot of experience in doing Koha installations in New Zealand. They were dearer than FE Tech though, which is why we went with FE Tech who had assured us they were compatible with Koha and fitted within our budget constraints. If you have the money, I would suggest talking to 3M and ask them for contacts of installations they've done with Koha in NZ for feedback. Cheers! Re: [Koha] Koha and RFID

They have a new staff circ program that does multiple items check in and check out. SIP definitely times out with the new program. We haven't had an issue with the gates timing out. With the new program, you can checkin/checkout up to 10 items at time, if the pad is strong enough. Jason Burds I.T. Burds Cc: koha(a)lists.katipo.co.nz Subject: Re: [Koha] Koha and RFID We also use RFID and Bibliotheca, though I will say up front, we are sorely disappointed with Bibliotheca's service. We've had tickets opened for weeks with no activity on them (the latest: they said they were waiting to install a self-check until they found out what ILS we were running. For the record, we've been on Koha for nearly a year, and have 5 branches using their kit already.) We can only check items in/out one at a time at a staff workstation. The Self Check Kiosks can handle stacks of easily up to 7 items at a time for checkouts. We are in on a CheckIn page AJAX development ByWater is managing for us that will allow for multiple items on a staff workstation's RFID pad. The recent changes to the CheckOut page AJAX-ifying the process was a big help, though we're still limited to 1 item at a time (but now, much faster). And the SIP settings on the kiosks and workstations? We bumped the Koha timeouts up to about 5 minutes and have the Bibliotheca kit sending SC messages once every 4-1/2 minutes. Even with well over 60 systems throughout the county, we don't ever have to restart our server except under very unusual and exceptional thrashing...
