Importing Authority data
by Rivikantha Herath 22 Jan '15

22 Jan '15

Dear all, My name is Rivikantha and I work as a computer programmer inUniversity of Peradeniya main library. We are in the process of implementing Koha as our integrated library managementsystem. Currently we have imported datafrom the current library management system to Koha via a marc file and all thebibliographic data seems to be in order. I can search a book and all the dataseems to have imported successfully. But authority data such as Author Name has not beenimported. I cannot search authorities which results in 0 results. · Does I have to import authority data separately orhas the marc import process has a failure. · If so what is the procedure to import authoritydata from the current system.· Is there a way to generate authority data frombibliographic data. I am currently facing this problem and our data migrationprocess has come to a complete stop. We have to make the system live by april. So any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Rivikantha Computer Programmer.

Good morning (very early morning for you), I came across a forum post where you mentioned you had AutoSend setup for PowerSchool to transmit data to SNAP. If you happen to get a free moment and are still in the position would you be able to send me any setup info you have with for the AutoSend or screenshots perhaps. I'd be happy to offer an edible arrangement or the South Pacific equivalent. Best, Edward Connor Alton Central School IT Admin

Dear all I am not sure If I am doing will sending this mail to this list, but I think It can be useful for the Koha community. I have already received a new about a new project called 'Aliada' it is an open source software that it is being developed to publish ILS content as Linked Data. Linked Data is something that is has been raised several times regarding Koha and Open Linked Data and perhaps this could be interesting. advanced search in staff mode
by John Harrison 21 Jan '15

21 Jan '15

Is it possible for the "tags" in the 'advanced search - search for' in the staff mode to be MARC tags instead of English descriptions, i.e. 700 or 710 instead of added entry - personal name ( or "author as phrase"), or added entry - corporate name. I am thinking staff (librarians and catalogers who should know MARC) might find this a little more accurate. John Harrison SAR Library volunteer

Displaying Arabic script in KOHA
by Jesse Lambertson 20 Jan '15

20 Jan '15

I just submitted a question recently regarding MARC and display to AUTOCAT and the response I got prompted a Koha-specific question: I know that Koha is being translated into use for more and more languages to handle non-latin language/scripts. Good news! My question is: What is the default Koha display of Arabic script? I mean, as I start to catalogue my collection, following the 880 MARC rules for linking "alternative" script, what will that display look like (in this case Arabic)? I have seen examples of displays with romanized text followed by the Arabic script in the same field, but am not finding any examples of corresponding fields displaying that same script separately. Is this a matter of local cataloguing practice or the defaults in the ILS itself? Acquisition Help
by Jack Morash 20 Jan '15

20 Jan '15

Afternoon Everyone, In our library, we receive a lot of donated books. To better track where they came from, I started using the Acquisition portion of Koha. Apparently we are doing something wrong because we cannot seem to receive the books after they have been put into an order. We use a Vendor named Donations and have Baskets using the donors name. We add the books to a basket using External Source (Z39) and use a $0 for Vendor Price. After 1 to multiple items are added to the Basket, we go back around to the Vendor and Receive Shipments. You are then asked to put in the Invoice number which we use a date code. When you go to the next step there are no items to receive. The above process worked once for one Basket but will not work for other Baskets. I’ve tried deleting and re-creating both orders and Baskets to no avail. We are running Version 3.16.04 Amazon ec2 server instance OS is Ubuntu flavored Any help would be appreciated. Jack Morash South Bay Historical Railroad Society

Re: [Koha] FW: Acquisition Help

The question might have been more specifically about tracking donors. We put them directly into 952$e (which we've re-labeled as 'Source - donor') and have an authorized value list of donors. As a charity (we have perhaps 98% of our holdings from donors) so this also allows us to produce "tax-receipt inventories" per donor on the fly (sql tab limited report.) Donors also get to see their names in the catalogue (unless of course they have requested anonymity, in which case we fudge the OPAC name in the auth. value.) FW: Acquisition Help
by Joann Ransom 20 Jan '15

-----Original Message----- From: Larissa Dixon Sent: Tuesday, 20 January 2015 12:45 p.m. To: Joann Ransom Subject: RE: [Koha] Acquisition Help Hi Jo I don't know the email address of this gentleman, can you forward my reply to him, thanks Hi Jack We don't put on orders for donated items. We do a catalogue search, when the correct record doesn't come up, we click on the Z39.50 search button that comes up on the right hand side of the screen. We then do the Z39.50 search, find the record we want and download it. Once you have filled in the relevant details and save the record, it automatically comes up with the box for you to add the item details. If there is not a Z39.50 record, you can go through the "cataloguing" tab on the front page and add a new record. I just use the default framework and fill in all the relevant details (and click in the right boxes) and then it is just the same as above. You can also go straight to the "cataloguing" tab to do a Z39.50 record search without searching your catalogue first, if you prefer to do it that way. I hope this helps. String freeze for 3.18.3 release
by Chris Cormack 19 Jan '15

19 Jan '15

Hi all, Sorry about the delay, but I have finished pushing all the patches I wanted t push for this release. So it is time to ask the translation manager to update the .po files. There shouldn't be too many changes so hopefully people will still have time to translate before the release on the 22nd. Chris
