Importing (incomplete) data from Micro Librarian Systems
by MisterRobe 26 Jan '15

26 Jan '15

Hi all, I am a (British) school librarian based in an International School in Prague, the Czech Republic, and I am looking into a move to Koha over the next year or so. Currently I use an ILS from Micro Librarian Systems <http://www.microlib.co.uk/> . It appears to be the standard in British schools. I can export data to: Comma separated values Tab separated values and XML data An example of the first of the above is the following: Barcode,Class,Author,Title,Media,URL"04431","599.4","Cullis, Megan","Bats","Hardback","" Which, you can see, lacks some basic information including ISBN, tags/keywords etc. etc. My present system also uses five digit bar codes. I don't know how this would play on the Koha system. I have looked a little into Koha and can understand that .mrk is the format used natively by Koha. I will be looking into the possibility of persuading my provider to export more data and assume that until this is the case, I would struggle to import meaningfully into Koha. If anybody knows any different or has experienced any such problem before, I would be grateful for any help. I have some experience with Python and would possibly be able to write some basic code to handle reformatting if I were able to get a fuller export, but any tips from those who have been in similar positions would be very handy. Meanwhile, I hope I may one day become a regular to these pages and would like to thank the community in advance for any replies and any help in transferring to Koha and open source solutions. Cheers, Rob -- View this message in context: http://koha.1045719.n5.nabble.com/Importing-incomplete-data-from-Micro-Libr… Sent from the Koha-general mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

Taxonomy and Enquiry Management features within KOHA
by adnan adil 25 Jan '15

25 Jan '15

Dear list, I am Adnan Adil, Digital Resources & Content Manager for Public Health England, and of course, new to this list. Currently, my library service is using KOHA. I just wonder if anyone from this 'wonderful community' can sign post me to right direction. We're looking to possibly embed two features in our LMS: first, an enquiry management system feature (we do have 'ask a librarian' service); and secondly, to adopt hierarchy-based taxonomy scheme (as opposed to keywords only). See example at: http://www.nphl.nhs.uk/ I would greatly appreciate if any knowledgeable colleague can advise me. I would collate responses for the list, if sufficient interest arises. Kind regards Adnan Adil Digital Resources & Content Manager Public Health England London

Unexpected behaviour 942 $h (3.18)
by Elaine Bradtke 24 Jan '15

24 Jan '15

We're running 3.18.02 I reported the same problem in 3.14, but it was intermittent. Now it's back again. When editing a catalogue record, we manually type in the contents of the 942$h (call number). This is usually the last thing that is added before saving the record, otherwise we might not have seen what happens next. After hitting save, and before the item record comes up, a space and numeral 1 magically appear after the call number, completely without our input. Here it is in a record - the call number should be only "QM" as it is in the 099 field. It appears to be adding 0001 in the 942 $6 which we have set to ignore. If the 1 is successfully deleted from the $h, the 0001 also vanishes from $6. 000 00720ndm a22002057a 4500 001 201501211025.nw 003 UkLoVW 005 20150121224121.0 008 150121q1926 enkfmle nn 0 eng d 040 _aUkLoVW_beng_cUkLoVW 099 _aQM 100 1 _913719_aHooton, P. In other words, edit a record once, it's fine. Go back in and edit it again, and the 1 appears. Edit it a third time to delete the 1 and it's fine. This is driving my colleagues to distraction. Debugging on MacBook
by Radek Siman 23 Jan '15

23 Jan '15

Hello, I'd like to ask anyone interested in programming Koha to help me with debugging Koha sources on MacBook Pro (OSX Yosemite). I am using Eclipse Luna (4.4.0) with Perl plugin EPIC. I have downloaded Koha sources from GIT repository, but the IDE still complains about missing libraries although I tried to install them from CPAN. Is there anybody debugging on OSX? Or, maybe, Is Koha able to run on OSX? Thank you all. Radek Siman

Export results in txt
by Hugo Agud 22 Jan '15

Dear all For a long time we think that Koha missed the option to download records in ISBD or label marc to a txt file locally, for unexperienced users. More experienced users may use Zotero with firefox that works fineit is also possible to send the basket by mail, but still you need to send, receive, copy & paste and just some fields are published, , but I think it is not enough for our less experienced users, the question is, is there any development on this way? *If not we can discuss to sponso*r this development if nothing is on the pipe line right now THIS IS A SAMPLE EXPORT FROM MILLENIUM, it saves the result in txt locally Registre 1 de 50 LOCALITZ Biblioteca de Catalunya AUTOR Stevens, Christine, 1964- TÍTOL La Música como medicina : la curación a través del sonido / Christine Stevens ; [traducción : Alicia Sánchez Millet] INFO PUBL Argentina ; España [etc.] : Urano, 2014. USER's GUIDE FOR LIBRARY PATRONS/CLIENTS
by CHRP Library 22 Jan '15

22 Jan '15

Hi everyone, I would like to ask if there is a brochure or a user's guide that can help us librarians to introduce the KOHA ILS to our users? As a librarian i think it is also important to have that in the library so our clients will have an overview of the system. It will serve as a guide on how they can register and use its full features to their advantage. Please send me a copy if we already have so I can print it and distribute to our library users. Thank you very much. Rochelle Palaña Basto Librarian I Commission on Human Rights of the Philippines
