Fwd: Converting MARC 21 from AACR2 to RDA
by Hernandez, Heather 06 Jul '15

Forgot to also send this to the list! --h2 ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Hernandez, Heather <heather_hernandez(a)nps.gov> Date: Mon, Jul 6, 2015 at 10:34 AM Subject: Re: [Koha] Converting MARC 21 from AACR2 to RDA To: Elaine Bradtke <eb(a)efdss.org> Hi, Elaine-- Cataloging rules change, and IMNSHO, "old" doesn't mean "wrong." We have records in our catalog that are perfectly correct ISBD, AACR, AACR2 and now RDA, and they all seem to exist together happily! Retroactively trying to change catalog records from one cataloging rule set to another could be problematic, since the rules for what data must be transcribed from the item, and how, can differ greatly. We are a museum library, though, and so may be paying greater attention to visualizing the exact nature of the item from the cataloging record than most libraries! We're creating all new cataloging records according to RDA--there is a sound recording here: http://keys.bywatersolutions.com/cgi-bin/koha/opac-detail.pl?biblionumber=3… And a list of some RDA records here: http://keys.bywatersolutions.com/cgi-bin/koha/opac-shelves.pl?viewshelf=52&… Hope this helps! Converting MARC 21 from AACR2 to RDA
by Elaine Bradtke 06 Jul '15

06 Jul '15

Just wondering if anyone has done retrospective conversion of their Koha data. We're considering various options, and wondering if it's worth the trouble. We have a lot of analytic records and some rather convoluted parent / child records. But at this point the catalogue is a hybrid, mostly AACR2, with increasing numbers of RDA records. I'd also be interested in anyone who's been using RDA for sound recordings in Khoa. How to restrict datetime to output only date in notices?
by Indranil Das Gupta 06 Jul '15

06 Jul '15

Hi all, I'm working on a notice where I need to place issue.date_due. Now, using <<issues.date_due>> gives the time as well. I want only the date (without the time). Looking into C4::Letters, I see this line - $replacedby = output_pref({ dt => dt_from_string( $replacedby ), dateonly => $dateonly }); is there a filter that I can apply? tia -idg -- Indranil Das Gupta Phone : +91-98300-20971 Blog : http://indradg.randomink.org/blog IRC : indradg on irc://irc.freenode.net Twitter : indradg -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Please exchange editable Office documents only in ODF Format. How to enter Multi volume books
by vinod mishra 06 Jul '15

06 Jul '15

Dear all, What to enter in acquisition in a Quantity field if a book is multi volume (say 10 volume) and library has to place one set, if we enter 10 than price will become ten times and if we enter only 1 than we will be able to receive only one item (one barcode) and rest 9 volumes we have to enter through catalog directly. Any solution please? -- *With Regards,Vinod Kumar Mishra,Assistant Librarian,Biju Patnaik Central Library (BPCL),* *NIT Rourkela,* *Sundergadh-769008,* *Odisha,* *India.* *Mob:91+9439420860* *Website: http://mishravk.com/ <http://mishravk.com/>*

Brendan, Firstly, thank you for all you are doing. A couple of points re: the draft MoU at <http://kete.library.org.nz/site/documents/show/368-draft-mou-v2-for-koha-fu…>: 1) Given recent discussion on this list, I might suggest dropping 6.12 and references to 'Listed Koha Support Company[ies]' in 11.2 and 11.6. (All "companies" are equal, unendorsed by the community.) 2) Is it 4? or 6? "representatives of the Koha Community" (there seems to be some difference between the [current version of the] Wiki page and the draft MoU. >We're going to be voting on the bylaws at that meeting as we've >had more than a month with the bylaws. Is a draft copy of such bylaws available? And do these correspond to 11.4 of the MoU? Quorum [Wiki page] -- "at least 50% of the membership." I agree with the 50% (even 50% + 1 if there are an even number; certainly not a minority), but find the word "membership" confusing. I'm fairly sure you mean 50% of the representatives elected by the community, but could you be more specific? Problem in Multi-Volume ordering through acquisition
by vinod mishra 05 Jul '15

05 Jul '15

Dear All, I observed there is some difficulty while placing order for multivolume books which is described below: What to enter in acquisition in a Quantity field if a book is multi volume (say 10 volume) and library has to place one set, if we enter 10 than price will become ten times and if we enter only 1 than we will be able to receive only one item (one barcode) and rest 9 volumes we have to enter through catalog directly. There should be some check box option near quantity field for multi volume so if number of volumes is added it should not multiply the cost (i.e number of copy X price of one copy). But i am still confuse what will happen if a library wants to place two copy of a multi volume set? -- *With Regards,Vinod Kumar Mishra,Assistant Librarian,Biju Patnaik Central Library (BPCL),* *NIT Rourkela,* *Sundergadh-769008,* *Odisha,* *India.* *Mob:91+9439420860* *Website: http://mishravk.com/ <http://mishravk.com/>*

Odd "check in" behaviour, if not checked out items are scanned in.
by Indranil Das Gupta 03 Jul '15

03 Jul '15

Hi all, On the "Check In" page, it is possible to scan the barcode of a book that is NOT checked out to begin with. However, what happens next is a little puzzling, the "dialog alert" div shows - "Not checked out" *but* in the table below of "Checked-in items", an entry for the scanned item is pushed in. Is this behaviour a bug or there is some explanation for this behaviour? thanks -- Indranil Das Gupta Phone : +91-98300-20971 Blog : http://indradg.randomink.org/blog IRC : indradg on irc://irc.freenode.net Twitter : indradg -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Please exchange editable Office documents only in ODF Format.
