Sharing patrons across libraries in Koha

Hi, In our institution we have a few libraries in different locations. All the patrons are affiliated with the institution, not with a specific library. What are your suggestions on how to organize them in Koha? It seems that Koha requires them to always be affiliated with a specific library - doesn't allow to associate them with multiple libraries at the same time and it also doesn't allow to associate them with a defined group of libraries ... Ideas please? Thanks. R

Suppression of books from the OPAC view

Dear Admire, To suppress titles from public viewing in the OPAC, go into the Edit mode of the Biblio. Put a value of "1" in the 942$n. The withdraw code is 952$0 and it should have a '1'. We have set up our item-level suppression to be one of the CCODES. I'm not sure what other libraries do but that's is our set up. Feel free to contact me if you have additional questions. marc VS marcxml field in koha's biblioitems table

Hi there, We use koha 3.02.02.00, and I've recently had to make a number of corrections to our records using SQL statements that basically did a search & replace in the 'marcxml' field of the 'biblioitems' table. An example of such a query is as follows: UPDATE biblioitems SET marcxml = REPLACE( marcxml, '<datafield tag="610" ind1="0" ind2=" ">\n <subfield code="a">Text A</subfield>', '<datafield tag="610" ind1="0" ind2=" ">\n <subfield code="a">Text B</subfield>' ) ; This worked as expected and I can see the changes I've made when browsing through book records in koha's OPAC. My question is: do I also need to edit the contents of the 'marc' field? According to the man page of C4::Biblio ( http://perldoc.koha-community.org/C4/Biblio.html) "In the 3.0 version of Koha, the authoritative record-level information is in biblioitems.marcxml". So, it looks like I should be OK with editing the marcxml data only, but wanted to double-check with someone from this mailing list who knows more about koha than I do. Hi There are some books in my library that we would like to remove from our Library to some other location. More like donating the books. I would like to supress the books from OPAC searches and annotate the item records as withdrawn from the system. How do I go about doing it. barcode scanner

hello there i need your valuable help :) i have some questions in relation to barcodes. instead of using the barcodes created by koha we bought pre-printed barcodes. is it possible to import those barcodes we bought using a barcode scanner? keep in mind that the barcodes we bought are nine digits while the ones created by koha are eleven digits. also is it possible when scanning the barcodes to have a prefix attached to each barcode automatically, based on the library code. thank you in advance! Check your current system and see what formats it will export. The best is MARC or UNIMARC, if not CSV will work, but you'll have to convert it to some form of MARC before you import it. Hi from a total Koha beginner

Hello everybody, I have just subscribed the list, so let me say a little about me. My name is Gianfranco; I live in Torino, Italy. I am an IT Professional - a developer for a big software and IT consultants company, since 1996. In the spare time I work as a volounteer at the Museo Ferroviario Piemontese (Piedmont Railways Museum), and of course I manage all the IT infrastructure of the museum. At MFP we are all volounteers, there are no employees. I came across Koha and this mailing list while i was searching for a replacement for our library software, which runs on a very old PC, that is about to stop working; since we cannot reinstall our legacy software anymore (the setup disks are lost, and the manufacturer has gone), we need a new program. So I found Koha, and I am evaluating it to understand if it can fit our needs - before developing a new application from scratch myself, which I would prefer to avoid (no time and no will... ) if possible. Installing Koha was a piece of cake - in a couple of hours or so i had a test instance up and running with no trouble. I tried to enter a test book from my home library, and everything was fine. But now I am trying to figure out how to import data from our legacy software, and how to teach our library guy to use this new program, bearing in mind that neither him, nor me, are librarians. Actually I am as confused as possible, so I am going to ask your help and guidance in deploying the production environment. Moreover, I am a bit in a hurry, because I don't know how much our old PC will still be working. I searched the Internet and this list for the past ten days, but I found no answer for my questions (for sure, most of them are due to I haven't no skill about libraries and librarians). In a next message I will post some of my major questions; I hope someone will help me.
