The URBS consortium, a network for the humanities comprised of 7 Rome-based libraries with a patrimony of c. 350,000 bibliographic records, 8,000 periodicals and 45,000 authority records, has migrated its Marc21 holdings from Millennium to KOHA with the aid of the Italian company "Cineca". Besides the standard keyword search features, this installation also uses a browse search function. As the contents of the consortium are multilingual and there was difficulty for KOHA to recognize the articles from the various languages, the second indicator of the 245 field was used to correctly alphabetize the title results. A Z39.50 protocol was also use in this KOHA installation to interrogate other libraries. Furthermore the URBS KOHA installation has a seamless interface with ESSE3, a portal used by Italian universities for data concerning their staff and students and their academic careers ; thus the KOHA libraries can manage lending, fines, etc., by dialoguing with the university's ESSE3. The URBS KOHA installation, now in the final testing phase, will go live in July. -- §§§§ Janet L. how to setup "hold filled" email notification?

Hi All, I am trying to setup "hold filled" email notification. I found that I have to enable "Enhancedmessagingpreferences" first. After it is enabled, I will able to enable "hold filled"in "Patron categories". BUT I have to enable it again for EVERY patron in his "details" page. Is it correct behavior? Can I enable "hold filled" notification in one click for all patrons? Thanks, Justin

handling 008 in marc21

Hello, in marc21 the helper for the 008 field uses different labels depending on the type of resource selected. But since the data from the leader is in a different window, this helper is always set to "books" by default, event if the leader says differently. Has someone made a javascript before to go fetch the value from the 001 in the parent window and change the dropdown accordingly? I haven't found anything like this in the jquery library, and haven't been able to work it out myself so far. Or is there some set up to be done elsewhere that i am not aware of? Diacritics displaying (or not) in Koha

Hello everyone, What are the factors that determine whether diacritics display in Koha or not? Is this based on encoding or something else? I understand the encoding default for KOHA (during import) is UTF-8. But it also has a MARC-8 option. I am working with records created in OCLC Connexion, records which are coded in MARC-8. Can I assume every aspect of those records will also display - specifically diacritics for transliterated Arabic. My first test imports did not display diacritics and I am hoping that if I re-import that same batch in MARC-8 they will. If not, what is the common work-around to display them? Background: We are finally in test-set-up mode for our KOHA installation (whew) and are trying to work out its kinks relative to our arrangement. Paying fines through SIP

Hi all! Is it possible to handle/pay individual fines through SIP in Koha? Or is only the full sum of all fines of a patron supported? Updating the languages
