Not done a "upgrade", but certainly use 14.04 (clean install) as well as 12.04 which is valid until April 2017... Also note that the latest release of the 14 LTS is 14.04.2 (Feb. 2015) The only minor changes that could impact you are Apache (goes from 2.2 to 2.4), and depending which version of Koha you are using, there could (unlikely) be minor discrepancies in dependencies and perl versions.
