handling 008 in marc21
by Gaetan Boisson 25 Jun '15

Hello, in marc21 the helper for the 008 field uses different labels depending on the type of resource selected. But since the data from the leader is in a different window, this helper is always set to "books" by default, event if the leader says differently. Has someone made a javascript before to go fetch the value from the 001 in the parent window and change the dropdown accordingly? I haven't found anything like this in the jquery library, and haven't been able to work it out myself so far. Or is there some set up to be done elsewhere that i am not aware of? Diacritics displaying (or not) in Koha
by Jesse Lambertson 25 Jun '15

25 Jun '15

Hello everyone, What are the factors that determine whether diacritics display in Koha or not? Is this based on encoding or something else? I understand the encoding default for KOHA (during import) is UTF-8. But it also has a MARC-8 option. I am working with records created in OCLC Connexion, records which are coded in MARC-8. Can I assume every aspect of those records will also display - specifically diacritics for transliterated Arabic. My first test imports did not display diacritics and I am hoping that if I re-import that same batch in MARC-8 they will. If not, what is the common work-around to display them? Background: We are finally in test-set-up mode for our KOHA installation (whew) and are trying to work out its kinks relative to our arrangement. Our installation is as follows: > Base install of Debian Wheezy 7.8 > Apt-get install of mysql > Apt-get install of apache 2.2 > Package install of Koha 3.20 Thank you much in advance. by justin fang 24 Jun '15

Hi All, I am trying to setup "hold filled" email notification. I found that I have to enable "Enhancedmessagingpreferences" first. After it is enabled, I will able to enable "hold filled"in "Patron categories". BUT I have to enable it again for EVERY patron in his "details" page. Is it correct behavior? Can I enable "hold filled" notification in one click for all patrons? Thanks, Justin

RFC: Reverting MARC batches with deleted records
by Kyle Hall 23 Jun '15

23 Jun '15

The batch record tool can A) overlay/replace existing records B) revert batches, including modifications due to overlays The situation becomes messy when we begin dealing with batches having overlaid records that are now deleted. If one of these batches is reverted, the record is un-deleted and the old pre-overlay record is reinstated ( unless you have CatalogingLog on, then nothing happens do to a bug ). The question becomes, is this the correct thing to do? If a record is deleted, shouldn't it stay deleted? Please let me know what you think!
