correcting template path info - re: upgrade to 1.3.3

Well, being a Systems Tech by profession and impatient by nature, I managed to solve my problem with the path to /default/ templates. For the record, the clues were found under the installation directory (/usr/local/koha/ by default) in intranet/modules/C4/Output.pm Reading through the function calls, I found that gettemplate() swaps the definition of the $htdocs directory based on being called with param string 'intranet'. The value it wants to use is taken from the Context->config() - which is defined in /etc/koha.conf The global koha.conf file needed two additional keys: intrahtdocs=/usr/local/koha/intranet/htdocs/intranet-tmpl opachtdocs=/usr/local/koha/opac/htdocs/opac-tmpl I have set both of these with absolute paths, although I think from a *very* quick read of the rest of Output.pm that partial paths (relative to the config values intranetdir= and opacdir= ) might be enough ... Greetings All! I'm a Librarian and a Library Automation Consultant, and have been involved in library automation for 20 years - since the earliest days of microcomputer applications for libraries. I have been monitoring the listserv for a few days, and have become interested because of my links with the supporters of Koha in my area. I am considering getting a couple of clients to install the system here in Montreal. I appreciate the comments I've seen on this list regarding the need for a good acquisitions module to make Koha strong against all competition. I agree, but not to the subordination of the cataloguing functionality. We need to improve and perfect the acquisitions function, but we must not neglect the provision of appropriate tools to create records that meet the standard. The standard for cataloguing - whether we like it or not - is MARC (whichever version we should standardize on is a question for another day) - and we need to be able to create entries in Koha that will produce good MARC records for those we can't fetch from somewhere else. I advise most librarians to use the internet and to fetch MARC records from anywhere they can instead of creating them manually, and the z39.50 searching and fetching capability that I've noticed mentioned is a great tool to have integrated in the system. Nevertheless, it does happen that there are no valid records available for certain documents, and there is a need to be able to catalogue them fully in the right structure. Also, it is necessary to be able to edit the MARC record appropriately. Sometimes a librarian may be able to take a record for a similar title and modify it so that it will be appropriate for the new item. To do that, the cataloguing module must allow for the editing of all parts of the record - not a trivial matter for a data structure with 1000 variable length fields, most of which may be repeatable, and a maximum record size of 99999 bytes. (I have an article I wrote for School Libraries in Canada called "Hitting the MARC" that discusses the use of MARC as the data structure for library automation that may help. Send me a message and I'll forward it back to you). It would be a serious mistake to produce a system that doesn't allow for full record creation and editing the MARC structure records. It is complex enough that I suspect it should be a module of its' own. Just my 2 cents worth! Looking forward to some interesting discussions in the future. Library Exhibition in Birmingham (UK) - Anyone know about it?

Hi Trade New Zealand (export arm of NZ government) have sent me some information about something called Total Library Soloutions http://www.total-library.co.uk/ 26-27 March 2003 In Birmingham UK. I was wondering if anyone was already going - if it's a worthwhile thing to get to etc? I'd be particularly interested in comments from librarians about the value of going to these sort of conferences/fairs. When was the last time you bought a library system from one :-) I don't think we have a big presence in the UK (Koha that is :-) so is it a way to spread the word? Imagic and Koha

Hi everyone I am the librarian for a small NGO called Dev-Zone (Development Resource Centre) I would like to know if anyone has used a combination of Inmagic and Koha. (We have a single user licence for Inmagic and do not want a multi-user licence which is vastly more expensive!) Inmagic enables us to use advanced search strategies essential for our specialist research library and has the ability to print detailed information on book labels for our subject classification (we need title, author and location on the book labels) We would like to use Imagic to enter data and then export it frequently to Koha so as we can use the Koha circulation module and other Koha library functions Thanks Marion Lienert

Hello, I'm a newbie to Koha and have been having some problems. I have version 1.2.2 loaded and all looks good but when trying to add anything to the database I continually get these errors in my koha-error log on my apache server. DBD::mysql::st execute failed: No Database Selected at /usr/appl/www/koha/cgi-bin/admin/categorie.pl line 35. DBD::mysql::st fetchrow_hashref failed: fetch() without execute() at /usr/appl/www/koha/cgi-bin/admin/categorie.pl line 38. I'm running on Solaris 8, mysql, and apache. issues arising from upgrade to 1.3.3

Greetings, I am experimenting with koha on a development server here, and had a fine time installing 1.2.2 without a hitch. Then I got a bit cocky, and tried the upgrade to 1.3.3 - being a fan of leaning over the bleeding edge - and it broke. I'm sure it is fixable, but I'd really like a pointer. Here's my situation: the OPAC interface is working nicely, but the intranet will not load. Apache error_log shows that the HTML::Template toolkit cannot locate the /default/intranet/intranet_main.tmpl - file not found. Ok, well, I see a note in Hints regarding the includes=path not being set right, but the note is too short and rather vague as to the correct values or a method for working them out. And I don't believe this is the source of the file-not-found error anyway. So, without having to go through all the documentation on the Template Toolkit and then reading my way through all of the perl modules installed as koha ... Can someone tell me where to adjust the system's notion of where it should look for the /default/ templates directory? Problems upgrading to 1.3.3 on Red Hat 7.1

We've tried to run the koha.upgrade script to upgrade to version 1.3.3 and we're being told that we're missing two necessary modules, Net::Z3950 and MARC::Record. The problem with the Z39.50 module seems to be a case of "failed dependencies"; 3 files are missing that are needed by Yaz, two of which are libhistory.so.4 and libreadline.so.4. We wondered whether this meant that our 7.1 version of Red Hat was too old. In the case of MARC::Record, we thought we did everything necessary to load this module, and we in fact get the confirmation message that MARC::Record is up to date, but the koha.upgrade script still seems to think it isn't present. We even tried rebooting the Red Hat server to no avail. Any ideas? Larry Currie -- Lawrence W.
