I enjoyed reading Regula's message, and thought it made some very good points. I agree that the traditional separation between cataloging and acquisitions is not going to be very productive in the future, though I think it will be a long time before a significant number of libraries realize this and change their work habits. So perhaps treating catalging and acquisitions as one (software) process is a good approach for programmers. But I also think that presenting the two as separate interfaces to the librarian is important, since it will be years before most libraries can reorganize their staff to combine the (human) acquisitions process seamlessly with the (human) cataloging process. French version of koha

Hi All! I am in contact with a library here in Montréal that would be a good candidate for koha. Their primary working language is French, however. What is the state of the French version of koha? Koha on Debian

Hi, I am working for a French school to replace our old ILS by a new one like Kaho. I am installing a first Kaho server to prepare a laboratory and to see how Kaho works. I have a problem during the installation. I use Debian (Woody) release and i have installed yaz 1.8.7 has shown below ; dpkg -l ..... ii yaz-devel 1.8.7-1 The YAZ Z39.50 toolkit (development files) ii yaz-doc 1.8.7-1 The YAZ Z39.50 toolkit (documentation) ii yaz-runtime 1.8.7-1 The YAZ Z39.50 toolkit (runtime files) ii yaz-ssl 1.8.7-1 The YAZ Z39.50 toolkit (SSL support) I retrieved koha-1.2.2.tar and untar it. I ran ./installer.pl " .... PERL & MODULES ============== Checking perl modules ... The Net::Z3950 module is missing. This module is necessary if you want to use Koha's Z39.50 client to download bibliographic records from other libraries. To install this module, you will need the yaz client installed from http://www.indexdata.dk/yaz/ and then you can install the perl module with the command: perl -MCPAN -e 'install Net::Z3950' " So i ran in another window "perl -MCPAN -e 'install Net::Z3950' " command and i got the error message "PERL_DL_NONLAZY=1 /usr/bin/perl -Iblib/arch -Iblib/lib -I/usr/lib/perl/5.6.1 -I/usr/share/perl/5.6.1 test.pl 1..16 ok 1 ok 2 ok 3 ok 4 ok 5 ok 6 Event: '?? MARC Import?

Hi All I'v some questions about MARC Imports.. first of all, does anyone of u work with Koha-1.3.3? I install it once but it seems that this release isn't realy ready.. I try to Import an MARC file which is made with BookWhere and the sample data file of the CPAN Perl Modul! but both don't work at all, then i try it on the test drive on the Koha webpage, and there it works properly. Now i go back to the Koha-1.2.2 and try it again on my system, because i thought its the same version like on the webpage (Koha server). But i just get the error that there is no uploadedmarc table in my Koha database, so i search in the koha.mysql file for the table, but there is non? I don't see any option/gateway to the full-acquistiions system. Where do I choose the full aquisitions system? Koha Mandrake

Hello dear colleagues, I am trying without success to install Koha on Mandrake 8.2. Perl 5.6.1 is installed, Mysql and Apache are installed too. But two perl modules are missing : set::scalar, z3950. I don't know how to install this modules because I am used to install only *.rpm files. This goes along with my other email about modularizing authentication. My feeling is that most of koha is sort of embedded, like auth the storage should be modularized, like this there should be a wrapper with default methods that do something a default way, one of those would be search. the mysql search would use mysql features (ie: full text search), a postgres search would do whatever they do. basically you'd have custom queries for each DBM since each method that does the querying would be DBM specific. Only the parent class would hold static variables and things that would be consistant across all the DBM's. If done this way storage is trivial, one could store everything in flat text files if they wanted!. I must emphasize that this is the *correct* way to program things like this, and if we (my university) decides to use Koha I will certainly help wherever i can. But I take your point, and agree wholeheartedly the current search code badly needs a rewrite and lots of optimisation. And im sure HLT wouldnt say no to any speed increase :-) I think what i was trying to say (bear in mind its getting late here, and my mind is probably muddled :-)) was that we should be able to provide the option for other people to use a database of their choice. Without restricting those who want to from using mysql fulltext indexing. On the topic of fulltext searching we had a discussion about it on irc today. I cant currently get to the irc logs but when i can, ill mark the discussion and post the url to the devel list.
