Hi all, I was wondering whether anyone could tell me what Dewey maps to in MARC? Scoured SimpleMarc.pm and came up with 082. Also the item type drop down field on the Koha test drive site, what's the MARC mapping for that??? or do you choose it when you go on to submit the record? If this is true where do you set up item types? just enter them into the db? or is there a gui? or are they pre determined like marc codes for em??? Thanks in advance, Adam Thick.
Hi Adam! The 082 MARC tag for Dewey is for the Call number assigned by the Library of Congress or other official body. Usually now, you would use 852 subfield h to hold the Dewey Classification of the item in your collection. (Use 852 sub i for Cutter or Author letters, and 852 sub k for Call Number prefix like REF for Reference). I'm not sure where Koha is storing item types yet - it is likely in a local field in the 900's. Someone should come up with an answer to that one. Hi My wife is working in a School here in Spain And she is responsible for the School Library. There are sometimes too many children asking at the same time for loaning books, without a computer! So she asked me if I could managed to setup a Library Book Managment System, Something that with a Barcode Reader she could Inventory the books and handle the Loans and returns of the Kids. Everyone is telling me that Koha is the way to go, but I must admit I have no clue about EAN and ISBN and if Koha supports Loans and returns and such.... I highly appreciate any hint I would prefer to build this upon Debian here a few questions also: What exacty is in the Koha-CD.iso file? should I better download the Aplication tar.gz?(smaller download) Who can help or tell me on how Koha must be modified to match our needs (School Library Loans, returns, User administration, inventory trough a barcode reader?(if its possible) Im pretty sure this must be asked a lot of times, Im sorry for this. but I need some guide Thanks in advance. Osgaldo. PD: Sorry for the bad english!
