Joshua, I have noticed the announcement on the Liblime website of Liblime Enterprise Koha. You state that this incorporates two years of completed development. By offering software as a service only, you are not obliged to release the code under the GPL but you intend to do so 'periodically'. Of course, the community-developed Koha software will continue to evolve and it is technically very uncertain that code released occasionally will be able to be reintegrated with that of the main project. Do you agree that this is a fork in the development of Koha? Aren't you also foregoing benefits of open-source development: shared resources and the scrutiny of a world wide community? Mightn't you encounter the resource constraints and priority conflicts of closed source vendors? We have not heard from you on this list for a considerable time. If you have left the Koha community, this is a great disappointment to those of us who have appreciated your substantial contributions in recent years. Your exit misses a key opportunity for developing a sustainable Koha software foundation and leaving the library community a better legacy. Please clarify your ongoing role in this community. Error while marc importing

Circulation and Fine Rules

We are now in addition of Circulation and Fine Rules. However, we are confused on the values we are going to input in the fields: 1. Fine days 2. Fine Charging Interval 3. Current Checkouts We have a rule here in our library that whenever a borrower exceeds the due date, he/she is given a 10 pesos fine per DAY. I understand that we are going to place the 10 pesos in the fine amount. Am I correct if I place the 1 (day) value in the Fine Charging INterval? Then, what about the Fine days? What value will I input in that field? Same with the Current checkout. What value will I place here? Thanks in advance for the help. Have a nice day.

I don't think so. I don't think we're so big just yet that as a body we're unwieldy to work with at a conference if the past KohaCon is any indication. It violates two of my rules of thumb. If Dynix is doing it, anyone else probably oughtn't. The second is that it would falsely elevate a delegate's status above a normal person's status. If this is done carefully a la old time Haudenosaunee Confederacy, fine. I just think we should wait for the politicking of delegations until we can't all fit in one longhouse. (And heck, mebbe not even then. The Assembly's amphitheatre at Athens, and modern crowd voting by show of hands to accomodate *thousands* come to mind.) A smaller, but just as poignant snag that would come to my mind would be that an individual's means would have a perpetual impact on whether they might become a delegate. Those that attended a conference might be more likely to be selected. (Think about the incumbents in Congress for a poorly operating system.) Cheers, Brooke

Unless they agree to hand that over to a foundation formed by the community, then: - a community formed foundation will not be able to use that name; - using a similar name could be subject to challenge by Liblime, at least in the US; and - if 'Koha Software Foundation' becomes active in the future, then there will be two Koha projects competing, for example, for grant funding.
