serials backlog
by Richard Shrake 01 Dec '09

01 Dec '09

Hi. We're in the process of migrating to Koha. Due to the structure of our serials records we're not able to properly export all of our issue and subscriptions information. We're thinking we could simply populate the backlog with big fake subscriptions, but we would need to receive each issue before an item record would be generated. Has anyone come up with a good way to autogenerate items for past subscriptions? Thanks very much. Re: [Koha] koha fine calculation module not working

Following steps are essential to activate the fine calculation feature with Koha. Otherwise Koha will not calculate overdue charges. 1. Configure crontab settings, execute the following command to open crontab file. *crontab -e* *Changes the locations in crontab as follows,* *#Environment* *PERL5LIB=/usr/share/koha/lib* *KOHA_CONF=/etc/koha/koha-conf.xml* *#Some additional variables* *KOHA_CRON_PATH=/usr/share/koha/bin/cronjobs* *Save the file by pressing **ctrl+O** buttons* *Press enter* *Quit the editor by pressing **ctrl+X** buttons* 3. Enable the Finemode to Production. Goto System Preferences>Circulation>Production -- Vimal Kumar V. Asst. Diacritics in title
by Chadwick, John, DCA 01 Dec '09

We are using Koha 3.01.00.61 and we have run into a slight bump in the road. I would appreciate any advice or help on this issue. Being in the southwestern United States with a large population who speak Spanish we have a lot books in Spanish, complete with Spanish diacritics. The behavior we are seeing is that if the only place that has the diacritic is the title, the keyword search fails. Some records have the title or partial title with diacritics in a 520 field. When this is the case, the keyword search will bring results, but a title only search will still fail. The searching worked with earlier versions of Koha (3.00.02) but it is not working now. When I look at the sort-string-utf.chr file for en, all the equivalents are commented out. When I look at the same file in the fr directory, the equivalents are not commented out. I am hoping someone has a copy of the sort-string-utf.chr file with Spanish diacritic equivalents so we can do some testing. Migrating, analyticals and MARC frameworks
by Elaine Bradtke 01 Dec '09

01 Dec '09

We're experimenting with migrating from a database into KOHA and I've got three sort of interrelated questions. 1) once you've sucked in the newly minted MARC (I'll skip over the techno-magic our IT wizard is doing to get to that point) it seems as if it's still necessary to go into the MARC record and add info into 003 005 and 008 fields. Is there any way that can be done either as part of the conversion process or as part of the importation? If it isn't done until sometime later (like when we get around to adding barcodes), does it wreak havoc in some part of the system that I haven't thought of? It looks as if searching works fine on unedited records. 2) Analyticals - we've got lots of them, and they're one of the most useful features of our database. One of our advisory committee has suggested that we make a live link between the child record (eg. a conference paper in a book of proceedings) and the parent record (the proceedings themselves). I know where to do this in MARC, but I'm not sure what should go in there. How do you put a hotlink between biblios? Has anyone tried? Does it use the biblio number as a target? 3) There seem to be quite a profusion of MARC frameworks. While I understand it will be useful when we bring in our data on Serials, and possibly the audio and video collections, I'm wondering what the point is for all the rest of the stuff. I've had to do some tweaking to the MARC framework to accommodate some of the complexities of our collection. So far I've done this in the Books, Booklets, Workbooks framework. But the import seems to go into the Default framework. Should I be making all my tweaks in the Default framework and not worry about the others for now? The items we're currently attempting to import are (mostly) some form of printed material. 4) Ours is primarily a research collection with very few items that circulate and very few borrowers. I'd like to switch off the display of the 'not for loan' status, and perhaps hide the number of items (since, in the case of the analyticals it will say no items, which might be confusing). Has anyone made this sort of modification? thanks! -- Elaine

Need help with SQL
by Adrea Lund 30 Nov '09

Dear KOHA Users, With the help of Beverly Church at Liblime (Thank You Beverly!!), our library is trying to get an SQL report that we can use for weeding our collections. We are getting closer to what we want, but we have gotten stuck - are there any SQL gurus out there who can help us? Right now we have the following 2 reports. we want to merge them into one report (I'll describe how below). Report #1 gives us all items within a specified call number range with less than 5 total circulations during a specified time period (circulations include issues, renewals and local use). select count(*), itemcallnumber as ' call number', dateaccessioned, author, title, barcode, datelastseen as 'last seen', itemlost as 'lost status', damaged from statistics, items, biblio where statistics.itemnumber = items.itemnumber and items.biblionumber = biblio.biblionumber and statistics.type in ('issue','renew', 'localuse') and date(datetime) between '2004-01-01' and '2009-12-31' and itemcallnumber between 'MUSIC 1999 CD' and 'MUSIC ZZ TOP CD' group by statistics.itemnumber having count(*) < 5 order by cn_sort Report #2 gives us a list breakdown by year of all items within a specified call number range that have less than 5 total circulations during any year within a specified time frame (circulations include issues, renewals and local use). select year(datetime) as 'year', count(*), itemcallnumber as ' call number', dateaccessioned, author, title, barcode, datelastseen as 'last seen', itemlost as 'lost status', damaged from statistics, items, biblio where statistics.itemnumber = items.itemnumber and items.biblionumber = biblio.biblionumber and statistics.type in ('issue','renew', 'localuse') and date(datetime) between '2004-01-01' and '2009-12-31' and itemcallnumber between 'MUSIC 1999 CD' and 'MUSIC ZZ TOP CD' group by year, statistics.itemnumber having count(*) < 5 order by cn_sort We would like to merge them into a report which gives us the "individual" circulation counts by year, but also limits the list of materials to ones with a total circulation of less than 5 during the total specified time period. Is there a way to include totals and sub-totals on the same report? We would greatly appreciate any help! Thank you, Adrea Adrea Lund Head of Adult Services Grand County Public Library 257 E.
