zebra error: uninitialized value

Everyone, I'm getting the following error occasionally in my inbox. It's coming from my rebuild_zebra.pl cronjob: Use of uninitialized value in substitution (s///) at /usr/share/koha/lib/C4/Charset.pm line 304 This doesn't happen every time the job runs, and updates/new records are reflected in the catalog, but surely it must mean something. Has anyone else encountered this error before? Is there anything I should be doing to alleviate it? Database Upgrade Problem

Hello All, I'm helping a small library with their Koha installation, and I'm having trouble with the database. We initially set up Koha (2.2 I believe) a couple years ago on Ubuntu 7.04. The machine recently ran out of disk space, which resulted in a truncated SQL database. The Koha installation also appears to be mangled. Fortunately we do have backups of the database. But rather than attempting to repair the old server, we have decided to do a fresh install on newly donated hardware with Ubuntu 8.04 and Koha 3.00.02. I have Koha running on the new machine, but I seem to be having trouble importing and converting the old database. I'm fairly certain that the version of the old database I'm trying to use is pre-disk space calamity. It appears to be 38 megabytes of good SQL, though I'm no expert on SQL. (We're using MySQL.) I've imported it with webmin (though I'm not afraid of the shell if there's any reason to suspect webmin of foul play) and run the Perl script to update from 2.2, and then the other update script. Everything appears OK, but when I go to search for anything -- author, title, or anything else -- there are always no results found. I'm pretty sure Koha is using the right database because it is named differently from the default, and that name is reflected in the Koha web interface. I have re-exported the converted database, and all the data appear to be there, though I can't say just by looking at it that it's in the form it needs to be in for Koha to make sense of it. They're getting pretty desperate to get something up and running again, so I may try to repair the old server anyway as a stop gap. But is there something obvious I have missed in converting the database from 2.2 to 3.00.02? Is there a way I can tell whether the database has all the right tables for Koha 3? Okay, get ready for a rant... > Sometimes "users" and "developers" are at opposite poles... When? I'm a Koha user. And in using Koha I saw that I could make Koha better, and in time became a Koha developer. There is no Koha developer out there who is developing Koha features just because they think it would be cool to do. Koha developers are doing their work because they *see* a need, in an actual user or an actual library. Or developers are getting paid by libraries to develop the features the libraries need. Here's when users and developers are at opposite poles: - When a company decides to develop a feature that they think will help sell a product, even though the feature doesn't meet any actual need - When a company throttles or cripples a feature in a product because they want to charge extra for a particular feature No self-respecting Koha developer or Koha support company is doing that kind of stuff. The Koha project is just about as open and accessible as any software project can be. You can participate on the mailing list, you can submit bug reports yourself, you can submit your own patches or hire your own programmers to write code for you. You can talk to Koha developers on IRC almost 24 hours a day! The only way in which one might consider that users need "more of a voice" is if you think of it in terms of working collectively to achieve a goal that Koha libraries individually could not. If that's the intention of that statement then, rant over. I agree 100% that libraries should be seeking ways to pool their resources ($$) to get done the things they want done, i.e. hire developers or commission existing companies to do work for them. However, if by "more of a voice" you mean, "If we all get together an ask for a feature the Koha developers should implement it," then no. This is open source, but time is money. You can donate your time (as I do, every day, in code, markup, email, and IRC) or you can donate your money--in the form of paid development work. This doesn't shut anyone out. But yes, there is a bar that you have to clear. I don't know how else it can work. So: Let's get together as users and/or developers and figure out how we can get some stuff done. Let's put together a structure by which Koha users can spec out new features and get them funded, collectively. Let's put together a structure by which Koha users can communicate with their vendors without fear of exclusion or reprisal. recursion problem with requests.pl

Greetings, I just upgraded from 3.0.0 to 3.0.5 today (running ondebian linux "lenny" that is up to date), and all went well, except oneinfinite recursion loop when giving requests.pl a biblionumber query. Forexample, in the admin interface (:8080), having searched the catalog,the list of books includes a link to see any holds on each book. Thisis the link: server:8080/cgi-bin/koha/reserve/request.pl?biblionumber=33769 (with the number changing with each book, of course) Clickingone of these links starts a request.pl process that maxes out the CPUand never returns a response to the browser. I've waited 30 mins onthis (as I went to grab dinner) and it never finished; I had to killthe request.pl process to end it. [SOLVED] Searching for a word returns the whole library

Thank you very much, Henri-Damien, your patch worked. The search now returns correct values (not extensive testing). To recap the whole issue if somebody should run into the same problem. koha-3.00.05 is installed from a source tarball on ubuntu server karmic. 34 records are added by importing using z39.50 server and marc files. All records contain entries in russian. Performing a search with a specific keyword on the catalogue returns the whole catalogue (all 34 entries w/o exception). Tweaking the search options in the administration section does not help. Applying http://git.biblibre.com/cgi-bin/gitweb.cgi?p=koha;a=commit;h=b4068c1da33de3… is suggested. yaz-icu is installed from the indexdata repository. icu.xml is altered on line 22 to be <icu_chain locale="ru-RU"> (I don't know if this had any effect, was fr_FR before). default.idx is copied to: /etc/koha/zebradb/etc/ /usr/share/idzebra-2.0/tab/ icu.xml is copied to: /etc/koha/zebradb/etc/ Using root the rebuild_zebra.pl script is run first with -a and then with -b (I don't know if this was necessary). Server restarted. Search works as intended. implementation estimate

Hello - Our small firm (20 staff and various consultants) is looking at implementing Koha for our document/information management and I've been lurking on the list for a while to gauge what folks are encountering. One question I have - via our CEO - is how much did implementation of Koha cost in hours, tech support, and migration? We would be migrating from FileMaker and have a small IT support team that is very capable and versed in everything I've thrown at them so far. :) Does anyone have a sense of how much time and resources went into their implementation of Koha? Hi everybody! We are a small russian church in Copenhagen planning to organize our small library using Koha. I have already set up Koha on Ubuntu Server Karmic and started testing it and learning using my own home books as a testing material. I am mainly importing records with the help of z39.50 servers. In particular from Russian State Library directly from inside Koha and using sigla.ruimporting marc records downloaded as files. Now I have stumbled into a problem which I can't find a solution to in the documents and mailing list. I have added a number of books, but when I search for a specific keyword, fx. иоанн, the search returns ALL records. I would like to request your input on this problem, if any further information is needed, please tell me right away. Best regards Michail

koha 3.0.6 soon

Hi, I plan to release a 3.0.6 soon, early next week or the week after. And 3.2 will fix many things we cannot fix with this code base. Nonetheless, I plan to maintain 3.0.x as long as 3.2 is not officially released. You can already see the work in progress on 3.0.x branch of git.koha.org Translators, there are little changes from previous version. That new release would include bug fixes reserve/request.pl and more failsafe for recentacquisitions.pl . But also some enhancement such as the ability to provide a path to xslt stylesheets in sysprefs, a new systempreference to allow librarians of different branches not to see borrowers of other branch.
