My favourite new feature coming in Pi - borrower lists!
by Liz Rea 06 Nov '13

06 Nov '13

I was just so excited I had to share - a new feature coming in version Pi is the addition of Borrower Lists. It works like this: Do a borrower search, tick off some borrowers. Just like adding books to a list, you pick Add to -> new list Give it a name Then, what you can do with it - is BATCH MODIFY based on that list - Tools -> Batch Modify Patrons -> From a List omg. Guys, that's so cool! What's your favourite new feature? Liz (sorry if this comes as a duplicate - didn't see my first message come through so sending again, because yes, I'm "just that excited (tm).")

Using EasyAnalytics in Koha
by Tim Skeers 06 Nov '13

06 Nov '13

I am wondering if the EasyAnalytics feature only works with serials? The documentation in chapter 6, section 1.2, mentions "articles within monographs" as something that can be analyzed. We have a lot of old monographs that have been bound together for which I want to provide individual bibliographic access, and it sounded like the EasyAnalytics feature would do that. But when I import my parent and "bound in" bibs as monographs, it doesn't seem to work. I tried coding BLvl "c" for the parent and "a" for the individual titles and that didn't work either. It only seems to work for BLvl "s" in the parent item, which also makes the record say "continuing resource" in the catalog. I don't want to code it that way, because it isn't. Any ideas? New newsletter editor volunteer
by Daniel Grobani 06 Nov '13

06 Nov '13

Hi, Chad Roseburg of North Central Regional Library has volunteered to assume the role of community newsletter editor starting with the December issue. Thanks, Chad! As I recall, when I took over from Nicole the only requirement was the willingness to do it. What's the current process for Chad to get approved by the community? Thanks, Daniel Grobani

But in my search results the field "Date" is always empty and I'd like not to make a lot of click on Preview (Marc or Card) for the publisher. I need the Unimarc 210_d be linked with "Date" in Z39.50 results mask and Unimarc 210_c "Publisher" with a new field "Publisher": is it possible to custome in this way? TIA a.f. --

Problem importing authorities (authority type gets overwritten)
by Željko Puškarić 05 Nov '13

05 Nov '13

Hallo to everyone, I am having a problem importing authorities into Koha 3.12.5 (Debian Wheezy packaged version). When I import authorities into Koha the Authority type gets replaced from what i put into field 152b (where Koha keeps authority type code) to SNC. Because of that I can't search for authorities through their authority types but can find them searching all authority types and default authority type. It looks to me that it might have something in common with the problem that Fabio Tian is having (see links between bibs and authorities lost for custom authority types since upgrade from 3.6 <http://news.gmane.org/find-root.php?message_id=%3c1381085012966%2d5773622.p…>). Here is an example of the records imported: 001 000052 152 ^bOSB 250 ^aŠtefan^bLjubica 461 ^1000001 900 000052 901 ^6a 909 2 980 HDS 001 000053 152 ^bOSB 250 ^aKrišto^bJure 461 ^1000001 900 000053 901 ^6a 909 2 980 HDS Those have been converted to a mrc file which passed MarcEdit test and imported into Koha. Authority type is OSB and gets changed to SNC. I am using UNIMARC. OSB authority framework lists 001, 152^b, 250^abc, 330^67a, 450^ab and 900 Regards, Željko

Re: [Koha] koha - consortia
by Kivilahti Olli-Antti 05 Nov '13

I am not 100% certain , but I think: In Koha there is only one catalogue. Catalogue contents are not divisible by the library, but for the items such a modification can be made. So you could search for biblios and limit the availability based on the items home library. I don't understand what is the business value for your patrons if you could limit catalog searches by a permission? OAK --Powered by Linuxmint On 04.11.2013 18:30, Richard Maileseni wrote: Hi Mr Kivilahti, Thankyou so much for your input in my question. My main task is to find out if Koha could be used for our library which is part of a consortia of libraries. Our library is part of a consortia. Each borrower at each library could search on other libraries catalogue but they have to be added to a special group of users known as smart that are allowed for this. could you please point out which feature of Koha that would allow this. Thanks! On Tue, Nov 5, 2013 at 3:06 AM, Kivilahti Olli-Antti <olli-antti.kivilahti(a)jns.fi<mailto:olli-antti.kivilahti@jns.fi>> wrote: Hello Mr. Maileseni and Mr. Sasse. A very interesting question. Firstly you should tell us what kind of features you need for a consortium? I know you can run a succesful consortium with zero consortial features and probably this will be the best way for your staff and your patrons, since it is really simple to have unified settings. It is also the most clear solution to your users if you allow transportation of items between libraries. If you are not transferring material between libraries and want to limit the availability of your items to a specific library, you can do that with UseIndependentBranches-feature. If you want libraries A, B, and C to form a sub-consortium and libraries D, E and F to form their own; and limit permissions and holds and acquisitions between consortias, while sharing the same user and bibliographic database, Koha wil limit your barrier building, but you should aim to resolve those issues politically by making compromises. Tho if you have only 6 libraries I recommend you unify practices, let everyone edit each others item and patron records and work more closely together. It is proven that libraries deliver more success by working together than building or maintaining artificial walls. Especially since everyone is cutting our budgets. Add fileds in Z39.50 results mask
by Andrea Furin 05 Nov '13

Hi to all. This is my first question to the list. I use Z39.50 searching: I'd like to know if there is a way to add new fileds in the results windows after a Z39.50 searching: I'd need "Publisher" and "Year of publication". Thanks in advance Andrea Furin
