Electronic Resource URLs - Authentication
by Craig Butosi 19 Aug '15

19 Aug '15

Hi all, Running Koha 3.20.02 on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS with Apache 2.4.7. I had a question about the authentication of electronic resource links in Koha. I'd like to explore a method of managing access to links to e-resources (856 fields) that would (1) prevent an anonymous user from navigating to the full-text of an e-resource via the 856 link; and (2) to show an 856 link to the full-text of an e-resource to authenticated users. I am thinking here of how universities and colleges manage their e-resources (i.e., allow registered students access to e-content but denying unauthorized access from unofficial users). The problem is that I've never talked with anyone who could explain how this is done generally. I'm sure it varies across institutions. So, can Koha (presumably with server-side software) do this, and how can it be done? Is this what CAS or SIP2 is for? Hope this is clear. Happy to provide more info. This is not my area, but I'd like to explore further. Feel free to point me to info resources on this too. Many thanks! Craig Butosi, MA, MLIS, B Mus (Hons.) VuFind and Koha
by Riley Childs 18 Aug '15

There is little documentation on using Koha with VuFind, I am curious if anyone is currently using VuFind with Koha and if they can give me some guidance. I am currently having issues with VuFind not reflecting holdings status. In addition I am struggling to setup the OAI connector for automated updates. Re: [Koha] follow up on: transfers to receive- home/holding branch issues

Disclaimer: untested; we are not a lending library so cannot double check all possible repercussions. However, if you are convinced that your problem is limited to / caused by case sensitivity of 'homebranch' and 'holdingbranch' in your *items* records, the easy solution is to edit MySql: mysql> UPDATE items SET homebranch = 'CARY' WHERE items.homebranch LIKE 'cary'; mysql> UPDATE items SET holdingbranch = 'CARY' WHERE items.holdingbranch LIKE 'cary'; This will only work if "CARY" is the properly declared value -- otherwise you'll get an error message about foreign keys (MySql is your friend and won't let you make a major mistake.) follow up on: transfers to receive- home/holding branch issues
by Amy Schuler 17 Aug '15

17 Aug '15

Hello again, thanks to Michael, Katrin and Robin for helping out a few weeks ago with my holding branch/home branch issues. I went through the exercises you all recommended, and as you might have guessed I found that for some (not all) items I have a bad homebranch and holdingbranch: Cary. The "correct" location for both should be uppercase CARY. Example: When I check out an item that has homebr Cary and holdingbr Cary, then check it in again, it ends up in the "transfers to receive" queue because in the checkout process it had been switched from homebr Cary and holdingbr CARY. These are the only items that go to "transfers to receive". Items that always indicate homebr CARY and holdingbr CARY always get checked in normally without going to that queue. Is this something I can fix if I make a copy of my database and make global changes in some test environment? Thanks again for all of your advice. Re: [Koha] Global Bug Squashing Day - September 3 2015!
by BOUIS Sonia 17 Aug '15

Hi, At Lyon 3 University, we sometimes organize Testing Days with other French Librarians. I think that it could be interesting to associate this event to a GBSD. Unfortunately, September 3d is in the middle of the start of the new university year and it will be difficult to plan a testing day at this moment. But for the next GBSD, I could try to make coordinate both. At least, for September 3d, I propose to communicate about it via the Koha french association to promote the GBSD. I have a simple tutorial in French about the use of sandbox and signing a patch : I can try to translate it (and it can be improve !) but there's already a wiki page : http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Sandboxes I hope it can help to make GBSD more successful ! Message-ID: <55CA6114.2010502(a)web.de> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=windows-1252 Hi all, we have a Global Bug Squashing Days (GBSD) planned for September 3 2015! During the July General IRC meeting [1] we talked about the Global Bug Squashing Days (GBSD) in general and about how to make them more successful. One of the ideas discussed was to have some events during the day - tutorials, questions & answers, developers talking about new stuff they are working on etc. So now we are looking for: Ideas! - What would you get interested in participating? - What would help you to get started with testing? - Do you want to know how to file a bug? - Sign off a patch? - How to use a sandbox? - How to set up a Koha testing environment`on your own computer? ... Volunteers! - Would you be able to run a tutorial on that day? - Do you want to present some of your new developments? - Will you be there to answer questions during a specific time slot? ... Please let us know and/or add your ideas to the wiki page [2]! Purchase suggestion management: staff interface
by Chad Roseburg 14 Aug '15

It seems that sometimes, when making a multiple suggestions for a patron, you get kicked out to the suggestion management page. If you make a suggestion from there, it links to the staff account, not the patron account. We've had several occurrences of staff making purchase suggestions for themselves instead of for the patron. Anyone else noticing this issue? -- Chad Roseburg Automation Dept.
