Howdy!
by Samuel Crawford 19 Jun '16

19 Jun '16

Greetings, Koha Family! My name is Sam Crawford. I am the Academic Librarian (and currently Acting Director of Library Programs and Services) at Northern Marianas College in the U.S. territory of Saipan, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI). I'm fairly new to this profession and to Koha, and I find myself feeling occasionally daunted, not so much by the "How do I...?" questions, but more by the "Should I...?" questions. I long for guidance on general upkeep / maintenance (i.e., "Make sure you're doing 'x' every week") -- a check-list, of sorts, to make sure I'm taking care of this baby the way I should be. A list of suggested reports to create and/or run, to ensure the data is squeaky clean, would be ideal. At any rate, I'm looking forward to learning more about Koha, how to maximize its use, and how to make it better, with the help of this community and its various interest groups. This email is a first step in that direction, so if you have any "I-wish-I'd-known-'x'-when-I-first-started-using-Koha"-type of advice, I'm all ears! Thanks, all! Until next time, Sam --------------------------------------------------------- *Samuel Judson Crawford*, M.M., M.L.I.S. Subject links in detail record display
by Andy Boze 17 Jun '16

17 Jun '16

Hi, all. I have a question regarding subject links in detail records. Subject links are treated differently in the detail display depending on whether OPACXSLTDetailsDisplay is set to "default" or left blank (no XSLT). Using no XSLT, each subject subdivision is a separate link. You can see an example at https://tantur.library.nd.edu/cgi-bin/koha/opac-detail.pl?biblionumber=1012 . In that example record, you can see the subject "Vatican Council -- (2nd : -- 1962-1965 : -- Basilica di San Pietro in Vaticano) -- Views on religious liberty." If you hover your mouse cursor over "Vatican Council", the search URL is https://tantur.library.nd.edu/cgi-bin/koha/opac-search.pl?q=su:Vatican%20Co… Hovering your mouse cursor over each subsequent subdivision ands the subdivision to the URL, so that you also get the search URLs https://tantur.library.nd.edu/cgi-bin/koha/opac-search.pl?q=su:Vatican%20Co…: https://tantur.library.nd.edu/cgi-bin/koha/opac-search.pl?q=su:Vatican%20Co…: and so on to https://tantur.library.nd.edu/cgi-bin/koha/opac-search.pl?q=su:Vatican%20Co…. Using OPACXSLTDetailsDisplay=default, no matter which subdivision you hover your mouse cursor over, the entire subject is searched. You can see an example of this behavior at http://beckercat.wustl.edu/cgi-bin/koha/opac-detail.pl?biblionumber=92537 . So here's the question: Is there a way to replicate the the behavior of the non-XSLT configuration, so that when OPACXSLTDetailsDisplay=default, I can still get the subjects broken into links for each subdivision? BTW, I've tried using TraceSubjectSubdivisions=Include, but it's all or nothing. If there are multiple subject subdivisions, you can't choose the specific "depth" you want, you get all subdivisions included in the search. -- Andy Boze, Associate Librarian University of Notre Dame 208A Hesburgh Library (574) 631-8708

Finding patron's previous card number?
by Elisa Chandler 17 Jun '16

17 Jun '16

When we issue a replacement card the patron gets a new library card number. Sometimes we realize a day or two later that we have to merge their old and new card numbers in Overdrive, the e-book system. Does anyone know if there is way to retrieve a patron's previous card number? Thanks! Elisa Chandler Manager of Technical and Virtual Services The Blue Mountains Public Library Leonard E. Patron Card Creator doesn’t work
by Urs Aregger 16 Jun '16

16 Jun '16

I have a new installation of Koha 16.05 on Ubuntu 14.04. As far as I can see everything works, but the Patron Card Creator. I can print card but they don’t show no barcodes nor patron pictures. Instead the logo is printed a second time on place of the photo. Who can help? BTW, I think it’s a bug: i create a new patron and it seems as it would generate automatically a password but it does not send any e-mail to the new member. I have to generate the password by myself and then the e-mail is sending.

Printing Additional Patron attribute on Patron Card Layout
by Admire Mutsikiwa 16 Jun '16

16 Jun '16

Hi I am working on deploying Koha for a local Primary School. I have created a layout for the printing of patron ID card. There is need for me to print the grade the pupil is in e.g. Grade 7B on the Patron ID Card. I intent to capture the grade the pupil is in using the extended attributes, instance using the field pupil_class. I will also appreciate it if you can point to me how I can make the extended attribute pupil_class be populated from a drop down list, may be through use of some customized authorized values. Arabic Language Index/Search in 3.22 & 16.05
by Jesse A Lambertson 15 Jun '16

15 Jun '16

Hello and Happy Friday community, I have a question about enabling the indexing and searching of Arabic script in Koha. We are currently running a package installation of 3.20 on debian 7. In this installation, we are fully able to search in Arabic as the 880 fields are properly indexed. But we are also now running a dev/test koha 3.22 (installed from tarball) on the same server to work out some issues of our customization. We are planning to then update the 3.20 instance to 16.05 on Debian 8.5. This will surely be a package installation (install koha-common etc). We are having troubles getting the Arabic language indexing to work on the 3.22 dev/test instance (ICU is on, we followed this: https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Correcting_Search_of_Arabic_records My question is: Were there be any fundamental changes to 3.22 that would prevent the Arabic language indexing (880 fields) from working? Is this perhaps tied to the tarball installation? Should we expect the same difficulties when we update the main instance then to 16.05? Or should we expect all other configurations to roll smoothly into 16.05? problems indexing new records
by Hugo Agud 15 Jun '16

Good morning We are facing a problem with incremental index of bibliorecords with customized koha marc framework. The issue is that there the incremental index it works fine with the default framework , but it doesn't work with the customize. If we do a full reindex it works fine, it is just with the incremental.... then our suscpect is that this template avoid koha to be indexed... any body knows or suspect what it could be? any missing tag that is requiered?.. thanks you in advance -- *Hugo Agud - Orex Digital * *www.orex.es <http://www.orex.es>* <http://www.orex.es/> [image: http://orex.es] <http://orex.es> <http://www.orex.es> Director Passatge de la Llançadera, 3 · 08338 Premià de Dalt - Tel: 93 539 40 70 hagud(a)orex.es · http://www.orex.es/ No imprima este mensaje a no ser que sea necesario.
