Publisher as authority
by Adam Goforth 19 Aug '16

19 Aug '16

Hi All, I'm new to the Koha community, so first a brief introduction: I'm the IT administrator at the International English Library in Düsseldorf, Germany. We migrated to Koha a couple of weeks ago and we're quite happy with all the improvements over our previous ILS. There is one thing we're having trouble figuring out: cataloging the publisher name and location as an authority value. We've tried using the Corporate Name authority, but it didn't work because the subfields don't match between MARC fields 260 and 110. I also found the "Create new authority type" page on the wiki, but I'd prefer not to maintain a patch set I would need to apply after each Koha upgrade, so that method isn't really optimal. It seems like this would be a fairly common use case, so I wonder if I'm just missing something basic. How do most libraries catalog publisher information? Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. Adam

Upgrading Ubuntu Kernel
by Bortel, Gary 18 Aug '16

18 Aug '16

Running Koha 3.22.09 Debian package & Unbuntu 14.04 The last I heard, Ubuntu 14.04 is still the recommended version of that OS for hosting Koha. Will upgrading the kernel from 3.16 to Xenial (4.4) cause issues? I seem to recall reading somewhere that Biblibre was planning to do this earlier this month. gcb

Deletion of Multiple item Records
by Admire Mutsikiwa 18 Aug '16

Hi I have a user who have attached a number of multiple records in the cataloguing Module using the Add Multiple Item button. I would like an SQL command that will enable us to delete both the items and biblioitems records in a range. Kind Regards, Admire Mutsikiwa (Mr) ICT Manager Libraries University of Zimbabwe Tel:+263-4-303276 Mob:+263771117777 "It is easy to dodge our responsibilities, but we cannot dodge the consequences of dodging our responsibilities." IP restrictions not taking effect
by Dalton Fury 18 Aug '16

18 Aug '16

Hi, I am trying to restrict staff logins to one subnet. What I tried is to set" IP" field in "Modify Library" to "192.168.56.*". But to our dismay, this did not have any effect. We even tried restricting staff logins to a particular IP, but even that did not work. What am I missing here? Thanks! Navaneeth K

Don't allow check in unless dues are cleared.
by Dalton Fury 18 Aug '16

Hi all, We have migrated to koha a month ago and are very happy ever since. We have a policy that if a book has some fine, the patron must pay it at the time of returning the book. Unless he clears the due, he should not be allowed to return the book. How do I enforce this in koha? Regards, Navaneeth Kishore

SQL Help - Add barcode column to SQL query that searches subject keywords

SQL Help - Add barcode column to SQL query that searches subject keywords
by Craig Butosi 16 Aug '16

Hi all, I'm trying to get the barcodes column from the items database to display on the results page after running the following SQL query: SELECT CONCAT('<a href=\"/cgi-bin/koha/catalogue/detail.pl?biblionumber=',biblionumber,'\">',biblionumber,'</a>') AS bibnumber, lcsh FROM (SELECT biblionumber, ExtractValue(marcxml,'//datafield[@tag="690"]/subfield[@code>="a"]') AS lcsh FROM biblioitems) AS subjects WHERE lcsh LIKE <<Enter keyword surrounded BY %>> WHERE biblionumber.biblionumber=items.barcode The above I found on the Koha SQL library, but this query only displays the biblionumber and keyword query results in 690a. I'd like to add the barcodes column to the report. Can't seem figure out how to do this in this query. Help, please :) Many thanks! C Craig Butosi, MA, MLIS, B Mus (Hons.) Re: [Koha] Using perl module Koha::Contrib::Tamil koha-auth
by Pedro Amorim 16 Aug '16

16 Aug '16

Hello Frédéric ! Thank you so much for replying my questions. 1) Yes '353.9(469)(094.4)' is supposed to be an authority that was just an example - 'Wilkens, H. J.' is another example. I think they are properly indexed as I can search for those exact terms and the results are returned in the intra interface. 2) Picking up on your comment on having a malformed biblio record, I had indeed some very incomplete records with no 6XX or 7XX in them, consequently no authorities to link and I thought that may be causing the behaviour. However, on a different import with all the records having authority info to link from, the same error is occurring. I think I might have figured part of the reason for 1) to be happening. In https://github.com/fredericd/Koha-Contrib-Tamil/blob/master/lib/Koha/Contri… Some characters, namely ',', are being stripped from the value and the authorities are being saved without the ',' character. Upon running the link task, ',' is still present in the biblios so the match fails. Does that make sense? Anyway, I think that's only part of the reason because there are some other authorities throwing not found warnings without any of those chars special chars. Yet another possible reason could be encoding causing the match to fail, for example 'Ossian, Séc. 3'. Another (probably) important piece of information is I have a UNIMARC installation, is there some particular (indexing) configuration required? Please let me know if any of this makes sense.
