Strange search results for authority searches
by Indranil Das Gupta 06 Mar '18

06 Mar '18

Hi, On a 17.11.03, I'm seeing something odd on the OPAC's authority search. *any* search string seems to retrieve the entire set of authority records in the db so far. The error reminds me of the typical problem of all data being fetched when someone searches for non Latin scripts without setting up ICU Any tips on how I should try to troubleshoot? -- Indranil Das Gupta L2C2 Technologies Phone : +91-98300-20971 Blog : http://blog.l2c2.co.in IRC : indradg on irc://irc.freenode.net Twitter : indradg

Adding search options to drop-down menu
by King, Fred 06 Mar '18

06 Mar '18

Greetings, all, I want to make some changes/additional options to the search menus in masthead.inc and opac-advsearch.tt. For example, I'd like to limit the subject field to only 650$a and add separate fields for $651a and $656$a. Also, I'd like to add search options for 190$a and 253$a.* I went into Keyword to MARC mapping and created fields mapped to a single MARC subfield, for example, mesh** is mapped to 650a. Then I added the line <option value="mesh">MeSH Term</option> to my search. That doesn't work-the search comes up empty. Can someone point me in the right direction? I've looked in the wiki and the documentation and I haven't found anything. I'm using Koha 17.11 and Ubuntu 16.04. Thanks, *Those fields don't exist? They do in my catalog. See http://medstarauthors.org. **Medical subject heading, in case you were wondering. adding existing items to acquisitions
by Giuseppe Angilella 06 Mar '18

06 Mar '18

Hi, how can I add existing items to existing acquisitions? The normal procedure would be to first "order" an item within an acquisition's basket, and then have it "received". But I am trying to reconstruct past acquisitions (for the sake of my library's records), that had been dealt with outside Koha. Existing items are already populated with costs and source of acquisition. (I wouldn't mind acting directly on the database by means of mysql commands.) (Batch procedures would be helpful, as I have plenty of items to be added to acquisitions, and I can easily select their itemnumber into groups by means of appropriate mysql clauses.) Many thanks. Giuseppe.

In and Out Library Management System
by Igbudu Tersoo 03 Mar '18

03 Mar '18

Dear Mr Omkar, I must commend you for job well done. And to inform you that your innovation will be of great assistant to us as we were already thinking of an access control system for our library. Using that from KOHA will be more interesting. I wish to further request two things from you. 1. Please assist us to do a video of the installation steps. We are using KOHA 17.11 running on Ubuntu 16.04. I tried to install the library in and out Management system yesterday by using the “Installation using git repository” . the steps seems correct but after inserting the address : http://localhost/lib/login.php on the browser to access the web interface, it failed to come up. An error occurred saying address not found. Please I believe this video will help us a lot to guide us through the installation. 2. Secondly, I am working in a public university where students are finding it difficult to pay tuition fee even though is less compared to many other public schools. The trend is threatening the existence of the school. A new policy has come out that students who have not updated their tuition fee should not be allowed to enjoy the key school facilities. Library is one of the facilities mentioned. We are therefore requesting that you help us create a condition on the IN interface, so that after scanning the barcode it will also check the students tuition fee status, and clear the ones that are up to date and reject those that are owning. Many thanks to you as I await your kind respond. Murphy Igbudu Virtual Librarian University Library and Information Services Benue State University Makurdi, Benue State Nigeria. +234-8038434748

DDoS attack on memcached
by Mark Alexander 03 Mar '18

03 Mar '18

Apparently, a bug in memcached (which we use in Koha) causes it to be used an intermediary in a DDoS attack: https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2018/02/in-the-wild-ddoses-u… I'm not an expert on this kind of thing by any means, but judging from this: https://github.com/memcached/memcached/wiki/ReleaseNotes156 It seems that we can disable the attack by preventing memcached from listening on a UDP port. I was able to do this by adding the following lines to /etc/memcached.conf: # Disable UDP -U 0 Then restarted memcached and apache2. My questions for the experts: Is this the correct approach? Is it even necessary? Is there more we should do?
