Although I am my library's cataloging department I'm not a real cataloger, so don't take my advice as being set in stone. When I first migrated our ILS to Koha a few years ago (I'm also the library systems department) I tried to set up a framework for our then-cataloger. For various reasons she never used it. When she left and I took over, I decided I didn't really need a special framework, partly because since I'm not thoroughly familiar with MARC I didn't know what I'd need, but mostly because I download 99% of our MARC records from OCLC or the vendor, edited them in MarcEdit or Notepad (with apologies to all real catalogers--I know that's not the elegant solution but it works for the small number of books I add each year) then uploaded the file into Koha. The only time I use the framework is when I'm editing a record I've already uploaded. If you're going to be doing original cataloging for most of your records, this won't work. I haven't used Z39.50 (we're a hospital and have a very strictly enforced firewall), so I don't know how useful a framework would be with it. If you're downloading and editing records, maybe you don't need one. However, if you're going to use your framework, I'd recommend adding the call number (050/060/082/099, depending on whether you're using LC/NLM/DDC/something local) and subject headings (650). The nice thing about my library is that we're small enough that if I make a mistake or do something in a way that isn't standard practice, it doesn't really matter. Our users can find the books even if I have to make up a call number and get it a little bit off. Your experience may be different. Good luck! Sorry--I forgot to answer that earlier. Main entry--personal name: 100 Price: maybe 365--trade price/ or possibly 541$h, acquisition note, purchase price Number of pages: well, I thought it was somewhere in the 260s, but it isn't. The closest I could find was 302$a, which is obsolete. Anyone have an idea? See http://www.loc.gov/marc/bibliographic/ecbdlist.html for the full MARC list. Since Koha is infinitely configurable, you can always add a field if you want to. You'll have to modify the MARC structure and the XSL templates, but it can be done. Hi!
Does anybody know which MARC21 tag/subtag is indicated to record book's author, special/secondary price, and pages number?
There's lots of information on MARC21 at the Library of Congress' MARC Standards Office website: https://www.loc.gov/marc/ You may be especially interested in "MARC 21 Lite," https://www.loc.gov/marc/bibliographic/lite/ and you can look up in there information on MARC21 tags 100 ("personal name main entry," often the book's author), 037 subfield c (for price), and 300 for pages. It seems that 876.c (cost) has same purpose than 037.c (price/terms of acquisition) and same as 541.h (acquisition purchase price). What is the right criteria* to choose between them? What implications has (for usability and interoperatibility) selection criteria? Thanks; I'll use 100.a for author. (*) No idea about why MARC21 has spread repeated tags. Hi-- I'm going to get very "cataloger" here...:) Please remember that each institution may apply these tags differently, too. Each of these tags is used slightly differently, for different purposes. The 037 field tends to apply to a particular distributor of a published item (like a commercially published book). The 037 is repeatable, so different distributors will be represented by their own 037 fields, with their cost. The 541 tends to be used for archival collections, a photograph, etc.--when you have a bibliographic record representing a rather unique item. So this type of record will not have an 037 since there is no "distributor." The 541 will represent the immediate source of acquisition of the unique item, and if it was a purchase, the cost will be recorded in the 541. The 841-88X are standard MARC21 fields for holdings, but we don't use these--we use the Koha item records which are 952 fields (one item record per item that can be paged). So we record the particular cost of a particular item, if we wish to, in the 952 $g (different from a replacement price which is in the 952 $v). I hope this helps clarify! Thanks Heather. For PCD I'll select 037.c, as usually the item can be acquired again when it's lost, sold or required more quantity. PVD may need to be commented to general notes (500), or create an unused tag number (I don't know the proper number and/or subtag). El 14/03/18 a les 08:11, Narcis Garcia ha escrit:
