Hi Koha fans, Chrismas & new year approches, so, i wanted to share with you the roadmap of Koha : * today, i'll release Koha 2.2.0RC5. Fixes a few problems, and adds few features. * I'll be away of the web from tuesday 21 to january, 3rd. But don't worry, i'll continue hacking a little bit Koha. In fact, i plan to do 3 things : - write scripts to migrate a library that will adopt Koha in 2005Q1. - write a DOC to explain deeply how to migrate datas from XX to Koha, and tune all Koha parameters (authorized values, authorities...) to have a perfectly working cataloguing tool. Will be in french, so translators fr => en are welcomed. - "copy" improved virtual shelves tools into OPAC. * On January, 3rd, for my return, unless there is a major problem appearing, i'll release official 2.2.0 !!! This date has been choosen because it will be the 5th birthday of our preferred ILS. A great date, really. TECHNICAL info : i'll create a new branch in CVS for 2.2.0 on january. Until then, please, just commit bugfixes and/of minor improvements in the HEAD branch. At least, commit NOTHING that needs a change in the DB. newbie z39.50 question

Hello, I have just installed koha for testing. I have filled the database with data from another colleague, and everything works nicely except for Z39.50. I have got what I believe to be the last version of koha (koha-2.2.2RC2), and I cant get the Z39.50 thing to work. I have added a line to the processz3950queue script as indicated in this list, now the deamon seems to be running but my z3950-daemon log is full of things like DBD::mysql::st execute failed: MySQL server has gone away at /usr/local/koha/intranet/scripts/z3950daemon/processz3950queue line 141. Does this occur when a search gets no result (possible) or is it more serious than that, doctor ? (I think so) In any case, I get nothing sensible in the little popup window when I try searching w z39.50. Anyone help me ? Release Manager Introduction

Hi everyone, Briefly, I'm Joshua Ferraro (kados on IRC) and I'm the new release manager for 2.4. Thanks everyone for your support! We had quite a lot of activity at our Town Hall meeting yesterday which tells me folks are still interested in the project -- I'm also sure that there are folks out there still itching to get involved but who aren't sure how to get started. If one of those profiles fits you ... get ready ... there's lots to be done and we'll be depending on you to help ... ALL of you. I'll be moving stuff to the official Koha wiki as things get more organized and definitive. Speaking of organization: before I commit to any deadlines or features to be included, I'd like to organize a few meetings for 'focus groups' to discuss each major 'component' of Koha 2.4. Based on the discussions I will select a 'manager' for each component who will be responsible for ensuring the success of that component. Here are the components: Website/Interface Design This group discusses the overall user experience of Koha: the official website, colors, logos, and interfaces of the OPAC and Intranet. As new features are introduced, the interface designers will ensure that the features meet the Koha standard for usability, beauty, accessability, and standards compliance. Documentation This group discusses documentation in Koha: user manuals, wikis, code documentation, etc. If you're not a programmer yet, consider writing docs for something not currently documented. Internationalization This group will be responsible for ensuring that Koha can accomodate multiple languages -- they discuss things like utf8 (did everyone see the latest version of Marc::Record now supports utf8), translation of templates, website, etc. New Features This group discusses new features to be added in Koha 2.4: what we can realistically acomplish, who can finance it, and who can program it. NCIP, Consortium Support, PLucene, etc. Quality Assurance and Bug Squashing This group will be responsible for making sure that the 2.2 code is bug free and that any new features are bug free. If you don't have coding experience you can start by noticing bugs and pointing them out here. And if you are learning to program, you can hone your skills by spotting other folks mistakes ;-). So ... five groups to start with. The New Features group is the 'catch all' group for now. There's obviously some overlap here so if you've got a better idea for how to organize our groups I'm all ears. Following this email I'll start threads for each group so we can begin discussions. I'll be chairing all the initial meetings (unless Rach would like to share the load) until I appoint a manager for the group. I'd like to make sure that everyone who wants to participate in a group can attend -- I realize this is tricky with us spread around the globe as we are. I've considered signing up at meetup.com where we could vote on the time of the next meeting but before I do that, does anyone know of a free service that would meet the same purpose? In addition to our 'focus group' IRC meetings, we'll have a monthly IRC Town Hall meeting (a brief one), weekly bug squashing meetings, and weekly updates from me on how things are proceeding. Stay tuned for details on when these will be happening. A word about our international friends. If you are not fluent in English, but you still want to contribute, please do! I can read French, German, Spanish, and Mandarin Chinese (slowly), so you can email me if you would like to get involved. Mike: I do plan on demoing the system to them soon. They have tried other systems, such as ResourceMate and didnt like them. The choice of what to use is up to them (the library staff) totally. They have to use it, not me. I'm only proposing koha to them as an alternative with its advantages. Getting to_that_point were they will even look at it is the issue. I'm running into resistance in getting my church to even consider Koha. A main issue is support. They want a toll-free number they can call with questions. I guess they want free support, too. This system isnt used 40-hours a week. The librarians are working on the system maybe 3-4 hours a week at most. I've explained to them how this project works, through documentation and e-mail list but they say "That isnt any good. We want someone we can call at anytime with questions." I will make these more prominent soon, but at least they are there for the meantime. And before anyone asks, I like to separate links to other websites from the main navigation for a website so that it is clear when you are going to a page off site. So this is why I haven't added these links to the left hand side navigation. FAQ PAGE http://www.koha.org/faq/ This has been updated to look more like an FAQ page and some of the more technical FAQ's have been removed and references made to the FAQ on the Wiki. Some of these were way out of date, so I have just tried to keep the more general, non version specific ones here. Is there an example of an auto install file with ALL variables &default values documented?

Hi all I installed koha 2.2.2b and noticed that the installer mentioned that you can create a auto install file. I found a short example in scripts/misc which is probably contributed by Paul POULAIN (from the user and the language setting) and have modified that. However this does not seem to be intended to be a definative example of all the options available but seems to be just what Paul used for his setup. For instance installer.pl in interactive mode asked: SELECT SQL FILE Select a file to append to the Koha DB. enter a number. A detailled explanation of the file will be given if you confirm, the file will be added to the DB 0 => FINISHED 1 => authorities_normal_marc21.txt 2 => stopwords.txt but these are not in the auto_install_file example. Short of looking through Install.pm and working out what the variable names and default values are does a Koha developer have a auto_install_file with all options included as an example?
