ERROR: Can't save this record because the following field aren't filled

On a fresh Koha 3 install on Ubuntu 8.04 I get the following kind of errors and I suppose that there are MARC records that by default are mandatory in Koha 3 but that are not returned from my Z39.50 provider (z3950.libris.kb.se). However, I'm not the man to figure out how to tell Koha 3 not to have this fields set as non mandatory. Any hints? ------------- Can't save this record because the following field aren't filled : * tag 040 subfield c Transcribing agency in tab 0 * tag 942 subfield c Koha [default] item ty in tab 9 Can't save this record because the following field aren't filled : * tag 003 subfield 0 control field in tab 0 * tag 005 subfield 0 control field in tab 0 * tag 040 subfield c Transcribing agency in tab 0 * tag 942 subfield c Koha [default] item ty in tab 9 917374543X Can't save this record because the following field aren't filled : * tag 040 subfield c Transcribing agency in tab 0 ---------------

Regards, Magnus Enger http://collib.info/ --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello, We too are very concerned with interlibrary loan and its relation to Koha in our regional library consortium in Kansas. We are dealing with this in several ways: 1. Most interlibrary loan is being provided among the participants in our Koha system through a single shared Koha data base. We have found this to be much more efficient than traditional ILL, and is one of the reasons we have pursued a shared rather than standalone ILS system. 2. We have configured our catalog so that whenever an item is not found in our Koha system the following link pops up: *Not finding what you're looking for? *Look for this item in the Kansas Library Catalog <http://ksuc-agent.auto-graphics.com/agent/login.asp?cid=ksuc&lid=ksuc&mode=g> The link takes the user to the standalone statewide ILL system. 3. We would like to eventually have direct links between our Koha system and other library catalogs but that is in the future. We did have discussions with RELAIS but their solution did not seem to meet our needs at this time. Hi to all, At 15.23 06/10/2008, Owen Leonard wrote: > > Because the main targets of Koha ILS (not huge public libraries, > > schools libraries, private libraries) don't need a specific > > ILL module. > >I think the large public libraries and consortia in the U.S. now >switching to Koha would disagree with that characterization! But I don't think they use Koha as I can donwload it from internet. They have a paid support or a good tecnical staff (IT and librarian) to manipolate at least templates and a to change the thing at proper level. For example: I need to swith the Opac from an english monolingual to a multilingual with Italian and English, default in Italian. To do it I need to do a SQL update because the system prefences lists languages in alphabetic list, so English is before of Italian. No problem if you have a monolingual Opac but multilingual opac are a must for Italian university libraries. In fact with enough support you can use Koha for every type and size of library, I think. Dear Colleagues: On a RHEL5 (5.2) server, running Mysql 5, I am getting essentially the same errors as was seen in Messieur Laurent's post. Alas, the suggested solution, to run libmysqlclient15-dev, does not seem applicable to my distro. Suggestions would be MOST welcome! Best, Petrus

Koha and ILL?

Dear all, Koha is not well known in Norway yet, but awareness of it is slowly starting to grow... One of the features I think Norwegian librarians will be looking for is integrated support for inter-library loan. I have searched the mail-list archives and the wiki for information about whether this is on the horizon for Koha, but have not found anything substantial. This makes me wonder: is ILL not seen as something that should be part of the ILS in other parts of the world? I'm sure we could do better, but I'm not aware of > current ILS-ILL standards. Are there any particularly useful ones? I'm not very familiar with the relevant standards, but there seems to be something called ISO ILL? http://www.oclc.org/isoill/default.htm In Norway we have a standard called NILL: http://www.biblev.no/nill/ But that's probably only relevant to us, and the spec is only available in Norwegian... :-( Regards, Magnus

Are we saying Koha is only for small libraries, with modest needs? How about academic libraries? > You can manage ILL transation usign special patrons (for you not for > the sistem) in the circulation module. I'm not quite sure I can see how you would do that... Lending documents to other libraries is of course trivial - you receive a request in some form, register the library as a patron and send them the book. Then Koha will be able to keep track of the due-date etc. Getting books from other libraries seems a bit more difficult, though. Sending a request per e-mail might be OK, but how would you keep track of which requests have been sent to which libraries? And when you get a book from another library, for one of your patrons, what would you do to keep track of who actually borrowed it and for how long? Copy-catalogue the book into some hidden collection (that doesn't turn up when searching the OPAC) and lend it to the patron from there? If you have some (other) solution to this I'm all ears! ;-) Regards, Magnus
