related fields

Hi there, I have, hopefully, a simple question. I've recently installed 3.0, and previously had 2.2.8. I had to scratch the old install, so I'm starting over. The only configuration that I am having trouble duplicating is "related-fields." In the previous iteration this was managed when defining the subfields within the bib. frameworks, but I'm not seeing the option in 3.0 and I'm not finding any mention of it in the manual. Can someone point me in the right direction? I'm sure I'm being terribly dense, so any advice would be great. Many thanks! Marisa Wood, MLIS BCR 14394 E. Consumed resources (leaflets) in the Koha catalogue
by MJ Ray 12 Nov '08

12 Nov '08

Is anyone here using Koha to catalogue, stock-control and re-order leaflets? What's your workflow for doing that? I searched the archives and didn't find much discussion of this, but it seems quite a common need for information libraries. Is there some other piece of software for leaflet and flier management, or is it all done visually by most libraries? Re: [Koha] Uploading Bibs from staging area...Koha

Actually, I can UPLOAD records, but when I go to STAGE FOR IMPORT, that's where it gets stuck. Then if I go to the MANAGE STAGE MARC RECORDS, I can see the bib files loaded, but there is no way to STAGE, or COMMIT them to the catalog. Not sure what's happening here. Do I have the problem right? How often are you re-indexing? We had similar problem that turned out to be a corrupt record keeping the imported items "stuck" it the reservoir. We had to find the bad record and make the needed corrections to it and then all the records behind it were imported. Fw: Catalog search returns "No results found"
by Magnus Enger 11 Nov '08

Hi, Melisa! Have you checked the error-logs? On a standard install they should be in something like /var/log/koha and have names like koha-error_log, koha-zebradaemon-output.log, koha-opac-error_log, koha-zebraqueue.err, koha-zebradaemon.err, koha-zebraqueue-output.log (I think some of those are "non-standard" and have to be turned on actively.) You might get some idea of where the trouble is by looking at the end of these files. I had the same problem on a recent install, and the solution turned out to be that I was running zebra as a user named koha, while some of the necesarry files were owned by root. The solution was to run a command like $ chown -R koha:koha /var/koha/* to change the ownership of the necessary files. Good luck! Catalog search returns "No results found"
by Melisa Canales 11 Nov '08

Hello, We have a Ubuntu server running an older version of Koha (2.2.6). We are trying to move to Koha 3.0, so I have done a fresh install of Koha 3.00.00.107 on a different machine where I have installed Debian "etch". I have also installed Zebra 2.0.32. I have followed the instructions in the INSTALL.debian file and the Koha installation seemed to work out ok. To get our existing data from the old machine, I did a mysqldump and moved the data to the new box. I then followed the instructions in the "Upgrading from Koha 2.2 to Koha 3.0" document to get the database in shape for Koha 3.0. That seemed to work as I can search patrons and I can view all the data in mysql or phpmyadmin. However when I try to search for titles through the Koha intranet or opac, I get the "No results found" message. I have started zebra and run the rebuild_zebra script and still get the same message. I have tried to enter a new record, run rebuild_zebra, search - and still no results found. I'm not sure what to do at this point. Any ideas? Thanks, mc

URI field link options
by Doug Dearden 10 Nov '08

Hello all, I have a successful install of Koha 3.0 (revision 17 I believe) running on Debian etch, Apache2, Mysql 5.0. In some cases we will be using this to catalog a computer file of some sort - text or maybe images or sound. I find I can get this to work by putting in the full path to the file - http://ipaddressofserver/directory/filename, but am trying to figure out a way to use a variable for the first part of that so that I can move the directory in the future and not have to reenter all of the links. For instance, a cataloged entry pointing to text_directory_variablename/filename is reinterpreted to http://kohaserver_ip_address/localtext/filename. Or sound_directory_variablename is reinterpreted to http://another_web_server_ip_address/some_directory/filename. I have tried using some SetEnv statements in the koha-httpd.conf file and also an extra entry in the <config> section of the koha-conf.xml file, but these did not work - the link shows up without reinterpreting the variable name. At this point the best I have been able to do is to use http://kohaserver/a_directory/filename and then create a DNS entry for the kohaserver that points to the correct IP address. My concern is looking toward the future, and trying to make things as flexible as possible - so that these files could be moved later and the only change to make it work would be reconfiguring what the variable points to. Writing this I am thinking that there is probably not code in Koha to automatically do this, but not being a perl programmer I am not sure where I would start looking. If a code modification is what it would take, a little bird dogging to the right place would help me also. Thanks, Doug

Adding support for NORMARC to Koha 3
by Magnus Enger 10 Nov '08

10 Nov '08

Dear all, I'm trying to add support for NORMARC to Koha 3, a crucial step if Koha is going to get any attention here in Norway. I start off with a working installation with the default MARC21 structure, and I have created an SQL-file that I run against the database in an attempt to delete MARC21 and replace it with NORMARC: http://github.com/MagnusEnger/normarc4koha/tree/master/normarc.sql When I ran this against one of the beta versions prior to the stable 3.0 it seemed to work. Today, I can still view my NORMARC structure with /cgi-bin/koha/admin/marctagstructure.pl. But when I search for something in the OPAC, I get the following error: Koha error The following fatal error has occurred: Fields below 010 do not have subfields, use data() at /mnt/koha/lib/C4/Biblio.pm line 3196 Apache Server version: Apache/2.2.3 Server built: Mar 22 2008 09:25:58 Koha 3.01.00.003 Koha DB 3.0100003 MySQL mysql Ver 14.12 Distrib 5.0.32, for pc-linux-gnu (i486) using readline 5.2 OS Linux domU-12-31-38-01-BC-D7 2.6.21.7-2.fc8xen #1 SMP Fri Feb 15 12:39:36 EST 2008 i686 GNU/Linux Perl 5.008008 As far as I can tell, the fields below 010 are set up in the same way as the fields below 010 in MARC21, subfields are given as '@'. But then on the other hand, I think perhaps I have stared at this for so long, I have gone blind to some glaring error... Any pointers on this would be highly appreciated! Regards, Magnus Enger

Koha 3 indexing problem
by Jason Macki 10 Nov '08

10 Nov '08

Hello everyone, I'm converting my organization's library data to Koha version 3, and am having a problem with indexing the data so that it's searchable. I've uploaded publication data into the "biblio", "biblioitems", and "items" tables, and ran the rebuild_nozebra.pl script. When I then do a search, I get results, but the results have no titles, and no links to the publication. But if I open a record and save it on the "addbiblio" page, that record will show up properly in the search results with the title and link. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Thanks for your help, Jason
