2008 Library Automation Survey -- closing soon
by Breeding, Marshall 02 Jan '09

02 Jan '09

Gentle reminder: The 2008 Library Automation Survey will be closing soon. If you have not yet responded, I hope that you will do so in the next few days. Please help me assess the current state of the library automation arena by responding to the survey and giving your library's perceptions of its current automation software and the organizations involved in supporting it. Original survey invitation message: I am conducting another round of the library automation perceptions survey. Last year's survey was the basis for "Perceptions 2007: an international survey of library automation:" http://www.librarytechnology.org/perceptions2007.pl The data collected through this year's survey will inform a similar report that provides the statistical results and interprets to the extent possible what it says about the current library automation arena. The survey aims to measure how libraries perceive their current library automation system, the companies involved in their support and development, and to gauge interest in open source alternatives. As more libraries become involved with open source ILS products, I'm especially interested in measuring their satisfaction relative to those that use traditionally licensed systems. Last year I received 1,779 survey responses. An even larger volume of responses this year will help increase the validity of the survey and result in a stronger report regarding the state of the industry. I think that all of us have an interest in gaining a better understanding of what libraries think about their current automation situation as we think about effective strategies going forward. Please take a few minutes to respond to the survey. The following link provides more information about the survey and is the easiest way to get to the survey response form: http://www.librarytechnology.org/blog.pl?ThreadID=91 If you responded last year, I'm still very much interested in having you respond this time also. Comparing the results of the two years might reveal interesting shifts in perceptions. Thanks for participating. -marshall ------------------------------------------------ Marshall Breeding Director for Innovative Technology and Research Vanderbilt University Library 615-343-6094 http://www.librarytechnology.org

Can please anybody help me what I have to do to continue and complete the installation process? (How to fix the $debug_level problem?) Thanks Ulrich Kretschmer PS: For me, the whole Koha installation process is a great obstacle for further Koha distribution. Even for an (more or less) experienced Linux user, it's a pain (it took me hours...). I wish there were simple installation RPM's.

Is it safe to do this? I read that it is not advisable to install by force. 2008/12/31 John Wesley Simpson Hibbs <john(a)swajime.com> > On Tue, 2008-12-30 at 20:00 +1300, Krsnendu dasa wrote: > > I have run the cpan installation for this and it ends in an error. Koha Conference in April 16-17
by David Schuster 30 Dec '08

30 Dec '08

If you are planning on attending or thinking about attending - I would love to hear what you would be interested in hearing about and or presenting! Drop me an email at dschust1(a)gmail.com - or post right back here! I want this to be a shared conference of user presentations as well as vendor how to's. Have you setup any special Cron jobs? Cron... What is that! Doing any special SQL's directly on the database or through the Report Wizard? It's amazing what we all do and think everyone else already knows how! I would LOVE to see more on reports Wizard as I don't understand it yet. Salvete! >If you are interested in Koha or working with it you are more than welcome! >There will be a registration fee though... Not sure about "Free" pizza, but >there will be food and snacks! Not to mention great discussions! > Is there any way to run this like a Library Camp and forego the added expense of a registration fee? If this is the same function that's planned in Texas, it's not exactly inexpensive to get there in the first place... I bristle at paying ALA conference fees, and thus forego many of their conferences. How many people were at the last Koha Con? Is it the sort of thing that a friendly University or large Public Library could host? Cheers, Brooke

Koha 3.0 beta on Kubuntu gutsy - "production mode - trapped fatal error"
by rmaynord 30 Dec '08

30 Dec '08

I have close to a successful install of Koha 3.0 beta on Kubuntu gutsy. For example, the interface at port 80 comes up in Apache2 fine. However, i am having problems getting the OPAC interface on port 8080 to work. It tries to start, but then freezes with the message "production mode - trapped fatal error". Apache2's logs show no error, but Koha's log shows errors such as -- [Mon May 05 14:25:42 2008] [error] [client 127.0.1.1] [Mon May 5 14:25:42 2008] Reserves.pm: DBD::mysql::db selectrow_array failed: Table 'koha.systempreferences' doesn't exist at /usr/share/koha/lib/C4/Context.pm line 455. AND [Mon May 05 16:38:20 2008] [error] [client 127.0.1.1] [Mon May 5 16:38:20 2008] install.pl: Can't locate object method "generate_id" via package "CGI::Session::ID::" (perhaps you forgot to load "CGI::Session::ID::"?) at /usr/local/share/perl/5.8.8/CGI/Session.pm line 74. The messages seem to imply that a PERL module is missing, but I have checked and am unable to tell what might be missing. I have researched the 3.0 install procedure from the Koha file, and from an online guide. I have tried it on two separate machines - but the problem in both cases was the same. Any suggestions?
