Marc Frameworks
by Marie Wardall 05 Jan '09

05 Jan '09

I'm working with the Marc Frameworks in Koha 3.0 and moving everything to the 0 Tab so that we don't have to click on each tab when cataloging. In doing so when I test the Marc Bilbiographic Framework I'm getting this error: Test: subfields not in same tabs Result: Not all subfields for the following tags are in the same tab (or marked 'ignored' Code: BKS Description: Books Tag: 600 Tabs in use: 0, 6 I am unable to catalog anything using either the Bks or default frameworks. Does anyone have any ideas or do I have to run something that I'm forgetting about or missing? Thanks in advance, Marie J. Changing library name
by Jenny Scott-Thompson 05 Jan '09

05 Jan '09

Hi, Is there any way to change the name of your library on an existing install of Koha, or do I have to reinstall? I remember it being one of the things I had to type in when installing, but I can't find it in the admin settings now. Thanks, Jenny -- Jenny Scott-Thompson jhs46(a)cantab.net

OPAC display statuses
by Rachel Hollis 05 Jan '09

05 Jan '09

Greetings colleagues, using NOT_LOAN under Authorized Values for the library's reference materials, items display as not available, which makes sense. However other items not available display a status/reason for non-availability. How or where can I modify these reference materials such that they display a status/reason? Following is an example: 1. Dynamic HTML : the definitive reference Availability: No items available: 2. Good capitalism, bad capitalism, and the economics of growth and prosperity Availability: No items available: On order (1), 3. A farewell to alms : a brief economic history of the world Availability: No items available: Checked out (1), What do I need to do to have the first title display a reason as do the other titles? What we're working with: Koha version: 3.01.00.001 OS version: Linux library 2.6.18-6-686 #1 SMP Fri Jun 6 22:22:11 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux Perl version: 5.008008 MySQL version: mysql Ver 14.12 Apache version: Server version: Apache/2.2.3 Zebra version: Zebra 2.0.32 Rachel Hollis, librarian Stevens-Henager College, Boise Idaho Campus ________________________________ This message is for the designated recipient only and may contain privileged, proprietary, or otherwise private information. Holds
by Marie Wardall 05 Jan '09

05 Jan '09

I want to make sure I am understanding the Holds areas. We're running Koha 3.01.00.008 Holds Queue-Should all items that are on hold (reserve) show up here? Right now when I click on this it shows that no items are found even though I know there are materials on hold for patrons. Holds to Pull-Shows me the items students have put on hold/reserve that are available on the shelf and need to be pulled. Holds Awaiting Pickup- are things that we have checked in and confirmed to be on reserve for the patron and we have set aside so that we can notify the patron. TIA, Marie Marie J. Glitches, thoughts and potential bugs when adding orders in Koha 3.0
by Joann Ransom 03 Jan '09

03 Jan '09

Hi there, I have been carrying out a pretty thorough test exercise on adding orders to vendors who have a variety of different settings in the Vendor Profile (ie discounts, list price includes GST or not, etc). I have found and bug reported some errors with calculating budgeted and replacement costs (bug 2865) but have a few other things which I would welcome comment on. It may be they are not bugs at all or I just have not understood what is happening. So, in no particular order: _1. Alphabeticised Item Type List_ I would like the Item Type drop down box to display the item types in alphabetical order. How do I make this so? As an illustrative example the current drop down lists in this order: 1.Adult Fiction, 2.Adult Nonfiction - Horowhenua, 3.Junior Fiction - Castle, 4. Junior Fiction, 5.Junior Fiction - Kermit, 6. Largeprint Fiction, 7.Largeprint Nonfiction, 8. Adult Nonfiction - Maori, 9. Adult Nonfiction. I would have expected them to appear in this order: 1,9,2,8,4,3,5,6,7 instead, if being organised alphabetically which would make it heaps easier to browse and tab through. _2. Saving with the Enter._ I think I would like to be able to save an order by hitting enter, rather than having to tab or scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page - which is annoying. I have tested this in Firefox. _3. Need a quicklink from 'No Results'_ It is a sound principle to always check the catalogue for a title before placing an order. {Starting point: home\acquisitions\vendor X\new basket for Vendor X\ } So having selected a vendor, I do a search in the "Add to Order from an existing record" search box. When I get "No Result Found' I can click on "Perform a New Search" link. But, I really would like another choice here; I want to be able to click on "Add a new (empty) record" without having to click first on "Perform a New Search". 4. I see I can enter isbn numbers in both 10 and 13 digit formats. Can I enter an issn instead for irregular publications which are not actually subscriptions / periodicals? 5. When I entered one of the orders, I made a spelling mistake in the authors name. However, I could not fix the typo. I had to instead delete the order and add it again. I need to be able to fix the typo in the home\cataloguing\editing screen, and save it. What currently happens is that when I hit save I get a pop up box telling me about all the fields I havn't filled in... which I can't fill in because I don't have the book yet! 6. My last problem is that while I know I have created biblios for the items I have ordered (but not received yet) I cannot search for them. I get "No Results Found". Does this mean that items do not display in the catalogue until they have been received into stock? Look forward to feedback before I proceed! Cheers Jo.

Patron Attributes Koha 3.0
by Marie Wardall 02 Jan '09

02 Jan '09

We are a k-5 elementary school that has been using Koha since the fall of 2006. We upgraded to Koha 3.01.00.008 in December running Perl version 5.008008, mysql Ver 14.12 Distrib 5.0.68, Server version: Apache/2.0.52 and Zebra 2.0.34. It was suggested that we add Patron Attributes so that we could collect some information better. I have added Patron Attributes for Grade, Homeroom Teacher and Student Id Number. Now, this may be pretty obvious, but now that I have this information in how do I get to it so that I can generate a report from it or use the data? I'm the Teacher-Librarian that has been working with the program not a programmer but I'm willing to learn. Thanks in advance... your help is greatly appreciated- Marie J. Fwd: 2008 Library Automation Survey -- closing soon
by Nicole Engard 02 Jan '09

02 Jan '09

---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Breeding, Marshall <marshall.breeding(a)vanderbilt.edu> Date: Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 11:22 AM Subject: [NGC4LIB] 2008 Library Automation Survey -- closing soon To: NGC4LIB(a)listserv.nd.edu Gentle reminder: The 2008 Library Automation Survey will be closing soon. If you have not yet responded, I hope that you will do so in the next few days. Please help me assess the current state of the library automation arena by responding to the survey and giving your library's perceptions of its current automation software and the organizations involved in supporting it. Original survey invitation message: I am conducting another round of the library automation perceptions survey. Last year's survey was the basis for "Perceptions 2007: an international survey of library automation:" http://www.librarytechnology.org/perceptions2007.pl The data collected through this year's survey will inform a similar report that provides the statistical results and interprets to the extent possible what it says about the current library automation arena. The survey aims to measure how libraries perceive their current library automation system, the companies involved in their support and development, and to gauge interest in open source alternatives. As more libraries become involved with open source ILS products, I'm especially interested in measuring their satisfaction relative to those that use traditionally licensed systems. Last year I received 1,779 survey responses. An even larger volume of responses this year will help increase the validity of the survey and result in a stronger report regarding the state of the industry. I think that all of us have an interest in gaining a better understanding of what libraries think about their current automation situation as we think about effective strategies going forward. Please take a few minutes to respond to the survey. The following link provides more information about the survey and is the easiest way to get to the survey response form: http://www.librarytechnology.org/blog.pl?ThreadID=91 If you responded last year, I'm still very much interested in having you respond this time also. Comparing the results of the two years might reveal interesting shifts in perceptions. Thanks for participating. -marshall ------------------------------------------------ Marshall Breeding Director for Innovative Technology and Research Vanderbilt University Library 615-343-6094 http://www.librarytechnology.org
