Simplifying Koha records

Hi list, I was hoping someone could point me to information on how to set up Koha for a very small library. We have about 1500 books, and all users are employees, so we want all users to be able to take out books by themselves. My main problem so far is in the large amount of data I need to enter for each book. Currently the collection is indexed by a program that only stores author, title, publisher and year (and is not complete for all books). I have zero knowledge about MARC records and about 90% of the fields available for filling in. And I don't want to put too much time into learning about them either, since they don't seem necessary nor useful for such a small collection. At first I was under the impression Koha was suitable for small collections, but now that I've got it running I'm thinking I might have been wrong about that. Any help at all will be appreciated. Hi Doug, according to the "about Koha" link, we're on Koha version 3.01.00.001 which was installed October 2007 (Perl version: 5.008008, MySQL version: 14.12 Distrib 5.0.32, Apache version: Apache/2.2.3, Zebra version: 2.0.32). Could there be so subtle a change - 3.00.00.107 displays 245a & 3.01.00.001 displays 245a & b - between versions? It seems to me that if you go through the frameworks and define how fields are going to display, then it should display as defined. I’d turned XSLT on in hopes of resolving an PAC holdings/availability display issue and since it made no difference, figured I could return it to the original setting of off; doing so resolved the display issue - the connection is beyond me. Our PAC is very similar to http://catalogue.buttepubliclibrary.info/ except for the Refine Your Search box, cover images and 245 display of a, b & c on one line (ours displays on two lines – 245a & b, then 245c). I do not feel very helpful and I am sorry. If I think of anything over the weekend, I will email you. Rachel, Thanks for getting back to me, but now I am really confused. Our settings are the same as yours (at least those are), yet we don't see the $b field in the title. I must be missing something somewhere. We are on Koha version 3.00.00.107. I installed in December and have not installed anything since then. Are you on the same version? Or any other thoughts? Searching Authorities

Hi all Some time ago I imported some authority records using bulkauthimport into my Koha (witch I have set up unsing the defaults of the english installation). I did a rebuild_zebra.pl -a to build the zebra indexes. Searching a record I have some strange mistakes: I find the records using the point "Search main heading" but I don't find any using the other two possibilities (Search Authorities, Search all Headings). The same happends if I'm working on the biblio records and I try to connect a biblio record to the corresponding authority-record. I have to use the second possibility (Main entry) and can't use "Main entry (only $a)". I guess I'm missing some zebra-configuration. Any idea where to look? Beda

Migrating from 2.2.9 to 3.00.01 once more

I have Koha 3.00.01 up and running on my new old box, yeah! But I am really confused as how to migrate my data from the 2.2.9 database. (I screwed it up once already before my other box died) I know there is a Wiki (http://wiki.koha.org/doku.php?id=22_to_30) but I cannot say that is really helpful for me. Like: installer/data/mysql/updatedatabase.pl this script will finish the update of the database. Which database? There is nothing in the koha3 database yet? Do I update my old database? Does that move my data? It seems that this Wiki is left over from the Beta version? In short, I am confused (I am easily confused). Can somebody just tell me how to get my data (biblios, items, patrons et al) from 2.2.9 to 3.00.01? It can't be that hard, I think? Thanks
