Koha, Drupal and SOPAC
by paul POULAIN 12 Mar '09

12 Mar '09

Hello, I'm very pleased to announce that BibLibre has started working on a SOPAC connector for Koha. SOPAC is a module of drupal, written to have a perfectly integrated web2.0 catalogue over the CMS drupal. You can find information here : http://www.thesocialopac.net/ It's a new Biblibrian that works on that : jean-andré Santoni. He's still a student, working on this subject for 2 months. Hopefully, once he has finished his school, he will be hired by BibLibre. He will implement many new webservices, that will follow the DLF Discovery Interface scheme (http://diglib.org/architectures/ilsdi/) He started last week, and the 1st days are very encouraging. We will let you know once it can be opened. As usual, it will be GPL-ed, even if we still haven't decided how to distribute the code (use koha, sopac or BibLibre tools & repositories ?) happy day. -- Paul POULAIN http://www.biblibre.com Expert en Logiciels Libres pour l'info-doc Tel : (33) 4 91 81 35 08

Koha 3.0 : item types or CCodes (again - sorry ..)
by Joann Ransom 12 Mar '09

12 Mar '09

Hi all, I have loads of incredibly useful feedback about my blog post regarding item types and collection codes, both on my blog and via email .. so glad because it wasn't getting much open discussion on the list for some reason ... So, on further thinking, I wonder if this solution could this be usefully accommodated in Koha 3.x, and made to display nicely in an OPAC search result: 9 'Item types' (based on loan length + rental charge) 13 'CCodes' (collections : a defined area of shelving housing a particular clutch of material eg Adult Fiction) 60 'Shelved at' options (subcollections ie Rental Fiction, Free Fiction) 'Call Number' field used to display dewey number and filing letters. I do want to assign icons to item types which indicate Format ie DVD, Book, and will want those to display on the OPAC search results too, and will set the 'Advanced Search' to display CCodes. Any problems that anyone can see? Cheers Jo.

item call numbers
by Rachel Hollis 12 Mar '09

Assuming that itemcallnumber is the place for item call number configuration, if I wanted the items in our Koha 3 to pull call number information from biblio fields 082a and 050b, how would I set itemcallnumber? Conversely, if there is a better place to configure call numbers for items, what and where is it? My library uses Dewey, an alpha numerical cutter and publication year for call numbers in its item records and on its material labels. Currently we have to edit item records for each of the three elements. If our call numbers could draw on the data already in biblio fields 082a and 050b, it would reduce our edits quite a bit. displaying item type icons in OPAC search results
by Joann Ransom 12 Mar '09

12 Mar '09

Hi all, Could someone please confirm for me that it is possible to make the icons selected when creating item types in Koha 3.x (ie from the npl or liblime kids or bridge set), display in the OPAC search results. I know they display in advanced search interface but I want them to display in search results too. Thanks Jo.

Koha 2.2.9 fine script
by Richard Azar 12 Mar '09

12 Mar '09

I am following in the footsteps of a contractor who is no longer available. The library is running Koha 2.2.9 on an Ubuntu virtual server in Windows. When attempting to run either fines.pl or fines2.pl we receive a database access error. The scripts are not sending the password to the database. The same error occurs when we su and try the script. Google searches have led to at least one other instance of this behavior, but the person answering the man's query simply pointed out that the script wasn't sending the password, he never said why. Google searches of the scripts lead to statements that "this script probably doesn't work on Koha 2." Is there a fix or must I rewrite the script? Richard Azar

Book Checkout Issue
by Roche III, Edward 11 Mar '09

11 Mar '09

Good Afternoon All I posted this on the Dev List as well but thought I would send over here also. I did my test server that currently has Koha installed and did a restore of the database from a dump file. All went well no problems and all my data was there. But now when I try to check out a book for a patron it goes to a blank screen with just top header. I am able to find the patron then I put the book barcode in select Checkout button and I get the top header and that's it and the book is never checked out to the patron. Has anyone seen this before? Also, there are no errors that appear. Thanks Ed Edward J. Roche Network Administrator Solanco School District 717.786.2151 x2437 "At the End of the Day, Did You Play to Win or Not to Lose?"

Custom Report
by Roche III, Edward 11 Mar '09

11 Mar '09

Has anyone ever done a custom report where you can see the items and their holding info? The issue is when we did our catalog import a bunch of our items did have copy info import with it. We want to see which of these items it is effecting. I am thinking that a SQL statement would be the best but I really have no idea where to start with this one. Thanks Ed Edward J. MySQL Admin
by Roche III, Edward 11 Mar '09

11 Mar '09

I was wondering if anyone was using MySQL Admin to work with the Koha DB? I have the Webmin package installed but can't seem to figure out how to restore a backup from it. My Koha install is on Ubuntu system and my workstation is Windows XP. Is anyone else in this situation or do you know how to restore from within the Webmin application? If you could pass your knowledge on that would be great! Thanks Ed Edward J.
