Thanks for your time and patience. The group I represent will be embarking on a major book project this year. Our target group is intellectually challenged people. We aim to produce ebooks with audio. The library software needs the following; Graphical interface Ability to have thumb nails Soundex as well as Lexical matching for search Be able to handle a soft library. Handle Radius authentication Is Koha able to meet these requirements? Regards John

Linking entry fields display

Hi all, I would like to ask the following question: in our library we would like to catalogue several articles taken from serials. For that reason we'd like to use the 773 linking entry field (Host Item Entry). However, I cannot find a way to diplay the Linking Entry fileds in OPAC. Nor could I find any solution in mailing lists. Is there a way to diplay this fields? Thank you in advance Ondrej Mlecka Casa Balthasar Rome

Zebra search empty on topic

I have Koha 3.00.01 running on SuSE 11.1 37000 MARC records are imported. Zebra is running. Search Library Catalog for 'Computer' returns 79 records. All ok so far. BUT when I now refine the search and click on Topics 'Computers' then I get : No results match your search for “computersu-to:Computers” in KIS HS Library Catalog Why could that be??? Marc questions

Hi, The Rijksmuseum Research Library, the largest museum library in the Netherlands, is currently testing the cataloguing function of KOHA. Since we have only limited experience with MARC, there are some things that puzzle us: * Serial holdings: we put our serial holdings in MARC tag 866, but they are not visible in the normal and ISBD view of the OPAC. What are we doing wrong? Do we have to use 952$h (Serial enumeration/chronology)? * Why is the OPAC normal view limited to only the title proper (245$a)? Can we change something to also show the other title information? * Our library collection is also a part of the museum collection. This means we have to give every item its own 'inventory number'. Are there libraries who have this same obligation, and where in MARC (or in KOHA items) do they place this number? We have been using 952$t (copy number), but I understand this is probably not right?! * An other question on item information: we have been using 952$c (shelving location) in combination with 952$j (shelving control number), but neither of these are visible in the items information of the OPAC. Again, what are we doing wrong? * I tried to do some original cataloguing (in "add MARC record"), and I discovered that when I wanted to check the authority I could only do so by name - in the authority search results in the pop-up I can only choose or edit an authority, I cannot view the biblios. I have to open a separate window and search in "Authorities" to check the biblios. Does always work like this (in MARC or KOHA) or am I doing something wrong? In the system I'm using now I can go directly from a name to the biblios. I hope someone can help! 22_to_30/move_marc_to_authheader.pl and MARC21 authorities

While upgrading Koha 2.2.8 to version 3.0.1, I encountered errors with move_marc_to_authheader.pl (migration_tools/22_to_30). That script fails to import authorities in MARC21 format. I found out that it is because it specifies UNIMARCAUTH in the $record->as_xml call, contrary to move_marc_to_biblioitems.pl which determines the MARC flavour before calling this function. I would like to know if it is still possible to use MARC21 for authorities in Koha 3 and in that case are the creation of 001, 152 and record leader in the script still necessary ? Summary of Koha developers' meeting day 1 (4/18/2009)

Hi, Here are a few quick notes from the first day of the post-KohaCon developers' meeting held today. About twenty people attended or dropped by the meeting in person, with another five or so commenting via #koha and others following along via Twitter. After a round of introductions and a little planning of the agenda, Paul Poulain started the morning with a good overview of the structure of Koha, C4, and how to write Koha CGI scripts. Next, Joe Atzberger presented a tutorial on Git, covering how to clone the Koha repository, create branches, add commits, generate patches, and submit them. After lunch, I continued the Git presentation by showing how to apply patches and deal with merge conflicts. The next part of the afternoon was a hackfest, during which several enhancements and bugfixes were prepared and pushed, including: * A history file for Koha, docs/history.txt * bug 3013: significant improvements to the cataloging editor plugin for setting the 007 field in MARC21 records * bug 1545: adding the ability to edit the SQL of guided reports * fixes for low-numbered bugs, including 908, 918, and 948 * a fix for the longstanding MARC21 UTF8 encoding problem for bib records entered via acquisitions * another ten or so bugfixes and small improvements One interesting project that was worked on during the hackfest is Jesse Weaver's new user interface for setting system preferences that will help users configure Koha by making the preferences more self-documenting. A particularly nice outcome of the hackfest is that several new and potential contributors had an opportunity to learn the mechanics of writing and submitting patches, and many of us learned new tips and tricks for Git. At the end of the afternoon, several Koha projects items were discussed. As a result of these discussions, I will be sending out proposals for several points, including: * (Re)starting a weekly update newsletter for changes to Koha 3.2 * I will be calling a monthly IRC meeting to discuss the status of Koha development. * Making some improvements to using the bug database to record who is working on various bugs and enhancements. * Setting a convention to tag regressions so that they get a higher priority for bugfixes. * Making use of the bug voting feature in Bugzilla to help Koha users and contributors prioritize bugs. I will be following up on each of these points in more detail in subsequent emails to the koha and koha-devel mailing lists.
