Patron permissions questions
by Agnes Rivers-Moore 05 May '09

05 May '09

Hello all I work with a few libraries testing Koha, and a question has come up about setting permissions for "patrons". As I understood this, permissions are for staff accounts only, to control their use of the staff client modules, based on their login. I see in the list of permissions that there is one flag (permissions) to set user permissions, and another (staffaccess) to modify permissions for staff users, and this confuses me as they seem to be the same. It has been noticed that the permissions screen exists for all patron types, and I have had some confused questions about whether staff have to check the "Borrow books" permission before anything can be checked out to a new patron, and why we need a "staff" type at all if any patron can be set to use the staff client. I can see their point, so I am wondering: Can someone explain the difference between those two permission flags? Has anyone used permissions for patrons who are not on staff, and if so what for? Could this screen be set not to appear except for specific patron types, e.g. "Staff" (even for superlibrarians)? Thank you all, Agnes -- Agnes Rivers-Moore Assistant Librarian Hanover Public Library

Images In OpacNav and OpacMainUserBlock
by Melanie Saldua 05 May '09

05 May '09

Hello, I'm having a problem inserting some images on OpacNav and OpacMainUserBlock. I tried to insert an image in a simple hmtl tag img. I both tried its relative path as well as its absolute path but they don't show up. I even used the images in the images folder. The text in the alt tag seems to work. Is it really possible to insert images in these sections? Is there another way to insert images in these sections? Thanks!

Received from website contact info: ********************************* I am the current Volunteer Librarian at the Charles Darwin Research Station, located on the Galapagos Islands, Ecuador. We are a non-profit institution with very limited funding but we have an extensive and unique collection of materials on natural history, conservation, and biodeversity, including marine life. Our collection is approximately 10,000 items, including books, serials, archival collections, maps, and photographs . We are interested in using Koha as our new ILS. I have reviewed your website and understand that you are using Koha for the CATalog of FISH project. If you don't mind, I would like to ask you a few questions about Koha and the StreamNet Library: 1) I understand that you are hosting and maintaining Koha locally and not relying on LibLimés hosting service. Have you found Koha to be manageable as open source software? The Charles Darwin Foundation for the Galapagos Islands (CDF) is an international non-profit research organization dedicated to providing scientific research, technical assistance and information to ensure conservation success in Galapagos. To learn more about us, visit www.darwinfoundation.org. Please contact me if you need additional information. I can be reached by email at dale.foster(a)fcdarwin.org.ec or on Skype at infographicsDF. We are wanting to make a decision very soon and so I look forward to your reply. Your assistance is appreciated. by ashik rajbhandari 04 May '09

Dear Sir, I tried to follow your procedures, but it is still indexing records from firstly created database i.e. "Koha", not from second database "book". Can you please help me out to run two zebra servers simultaeneously for two different databases by providing me step by step procedures in detail to change the directories for biblioserver and authorityserver zebra and also to change the lines for koha-zebra-ctl.sh / book-zebra-ctl.sh, koha-conf.xml / book-conf.xml with detailed examples. Looking forward for your kind cooperation.
