Possibly bug 2917 related: help needed with problem editing Authority MARC Subfield Structure
by Repke de Vries 07 May '09

07 May '09

Dear all we can't proceed editing our Authority MARC Subfield Structure. See below, including screenshots. Might be related to bug 2917 and we applied the patch this morning but our problem persists. We have 3.00.00.107 under Linux [1] and the browser is Firefox. Here is the point in the editing steps where we are still fine after adding the new tag 109 (as test example): http://screencast.com/t/ Gl2yXBzJXpD Obviously there is no Subfield list yet. After clicking "Edit subfields", things go wrong because the "subfield code" box is missing to type in the subfield (0-9, a-z) you wish to add. Here is the screenshot: http://screencast.com/t/SMSWqpqrllN If you do go on from this point and do a Save Changes anyway, Koha messes up and introduces a number of @ subfields in tag 109. Any takers ? Or should we report this as bug. Help appreciated ! Anyone using tag clouds?
by Nelson Fredsell -CCE 07 May '09

07 May '09

Hi everyone, Is anyone using the tag / tag cloud feature for cataloguing purposes? We're considering the use of tags during the catalogue process, to allow use of additional subject/keyword material not part of MARC and Z39.50. I'm aware that 690 would allow us to put in local Subject assignments, and the cataloguer could enter the 690 AFTER a Z39.50 search. The problem we have is that we think we'd like to enter 690 BEFORE the Z39.50 search. I say BEFORE, because we'd map proprietary Subjects and Keywords during our initial migration from the legacy system, then slowly as we have time run z39.50 searches on all our records. If you're happily using tags for cataloguing, I'd appreciate a link to your OPAC so that I could see what this actually looks like in Koha. Thanks, Nelson

Koha 3 on OpenBSD
by Melanie Saldua 07 May '09

07 May '09

Hello again, I was wondering if anyone has success on installing koha 3 on openbsd? I have a working koha on ubuntu 8.10 (at last!) and now going to transfer the database and install a fresh version on our main server (OpenBSD). I can see that there's a manual for installing koha 2.2.8 on openbsd. I don't know if the same manual can work on koha 3. Can someone help me in installing on OpenBSD? Thanks

Query re set up of Koha catalogue
by Sue Brockway 07 May '09

07 May '09

Hi there I am looking at moving to Koha LMS from Athena but I have a query. My catalogue is mainly indexed journal articles and web reports with only a few books. The Koha demonstrations site seems to have only book catalogues. Does anyone know of a catalogue similar to mine or has anyone set up a similar catalogue? I would welcome any suggestions. "Go" Button on search pages
by Lenora Oftedahl 07 May '09

07 May '09

Ok. Venting first, as the vent leads to the question. Customer sends a long diatribe about how Koha is not user friendly with log-ins, etc. And on the Search screens, the buttons are small and marked "Go". Mind you this person drives me up the wall with constant negativity, but honestly, the buttons are small and "Go" isn't really the same as "Search" So, is there a way to change the buttons to say "Search Now" with user preferences? Oh, and thank you to Owen Leonard for the FABULOUS blog on changing the system preferences to change pages. I've modified the catalog a bit to match more and hide other stuff that needed to be hidden because otherwise the customer above was too confused about how to use the software. Yes, I'm pretty sure StreamNet is the only library he has ever visited. Thanx. Lenora StreamNet Regional Librarian Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission http://www.fishlib.org

For #koha meeting - smaller bugs database changes
by Galen Charlton 06 May '09

06 May '09

Hi, A couple other ideas that came from KohaCon: * creating a new product for bugs/requests related to koha.org websites and moving existing website components out of the product for Koha itself. PRO: shortens the component dropdowns CON: adds another page and click when entering a new bug * archiving or merging bugs for versions of Koha before 2.2.9 (or perhaps 2.2.x) PRO: shortens the version dropdown CON: truncates history Regards, Galen -- Galen Charlton VP, Research & Development, LibLime galen.charlton(a)liblime.com p: 1-888-564-2457 x709 skype: gmcharlt

For #koha meeting - bugs database policies - enhancements and cosponsorship
by Galen Charlton 06 May '09

06 May '09

Hi, Apologies for the delay sending this out. One of the items discussed at KohaCon was a desire by interested parties to have a global list of proposed and active Koha development projects. The purpose of this list would be not only to let people know what new features may be coming down the pike, but to give interested users and funding agencies a way to coordinate the funding of such work. The general outcome of the KohaCon session was a suggestion that the Koha bugs database (bugs.koha.org) be used for this purpose. Specific changes that might support that include: * turning on bug voting * encouraging all active developers and vendors to create bugs for all prospective enhancement projects, supplementing the RFCs distributed via email and the wiki * adding a custom field, status, or tagging convention to Bugzilla to let interested parties identify projects that are seeking sponsorship. * adding some canned reports to the bugzilla home page to identify sponsored projects.
