Suggestion for Editing New Koha Site
by Nicole Engard 11 May '09

11 May '09

I'm not putting this in the existing thread because it might be lost, but I have a suggestion. How about we follow our Koha model for the Koha website and put the templates and CSS into GIT. That way everyone can make edits and help fix the templates? Then we just need a Website Manager who approved patches - but at least we all have access to everything and can work together - which is our strong suit :) --- Nicole C. Phrase searching
by Cab Vinton 11 May '09

11 May '09

As far as I can tell, Koha (3.0) does not do phrase searching, either in staff or public mode. This seems like a strange oversight. Can someone confirm, let me know if I've overlooked a setting, provide further information? Thank you, Cab Vinton, Director Sanbornton Public Library Sanbornton, NH

Fwd: [CODE4LIB] Amazon product API will require a crypto signature
by Joe Atzberger 11 May '09

11 May '09

Koha has long been a consumer of Amazon API data and jacket images. The API has changed previously and Koha has had to keep up. It looks like Amazon has another set of changes in the works, set to take effect in a few months, so we will have to adapt again. Separately, it is speculated that it might become more difficult to get API keys under the upcoming model, but this has not been confirmed. Koha developers will be following the API migration closely. I'm forwarding a message from Jonathan Rochkind of code4lib that describes the upcoming changes. -- Joe Atzberger LibLime - Open Source Library Solutions ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Jonathan Rochkind <rochkind(a)jhu.edu> Date: Mon, May 11, 2009 at 9:40 AM Subject: [CODE4LIB] Amazon product API will require a crypto signature The Amazon products API keeps changing it's name, and has just been changed to Amazon "Product Advertising API" -- it's the one you use to look up books in Amazon and get metadata for them, though. It looks from an email I got from Amazon that as of August 15th, you'll need to cryptographically sign requests to this API, to have them responded to. It looks like kind of a pain. I think a bunch of people on this list may be using this API. Beware. Instructions for how to cryptographically sign requests the way they want can be found here: http://docs.amazonwebservices.com/AWSECommerceService/latest/DG/Query_Query… http://docs.amazonwebservices.com/AWSECommerceService/latest/DG/rest-signat… Like I said, it's looking like a pain to me. There are lots of details to get right. If you URI-escape not _exactly_ the same way they do, it's not going to work. Etc. Jonathan

Re: [Koha] Announcing ... New koha.org Website based on Plone
by Zeno Tajoli 11 May '09

11 May '09

Hi to all, I see the new web site and I have same suggestion about it: 1) The general layout with an head and two/three columns (Navigation, Content, News/Login) I think that layout is OK for home page and pages with advices / news like http://koha.org/, http://koha.org/events, http://koha.org/events/developer-weekend. In fact all those page not have many lines in Content columns. But for documentation pages, like http://koha.org/documentation/faq http://koha.org/documentation/manual http://koha.org/documentation/manual/3.0 http://koha.org/documentation/manual/3.0/administration/global-system-prefe… have too lines and information to fit go in the Content column. I think the better solutin for "documentation" and /or pages wtih much content is to have only one column. And to insert the 'Navigation' column, present into documentation section, in the head. 2)IRC. The information about IRC has not the info about the web log of the chat. Do you want to close this service ? For person like that I don't use IRC the web log is quite useful. I have asked of a login but I don't know Plone. So I don't know if I can implement with my login the changes that I suggest. But if the comunity agree on them, I'm agree to do them by myself. About translation in italian. The Koha comunity in Italy is quite little. As Cilea we have register a site and sponsor a wiki at address http://www.koha.it. It is a wiki on WikiDot service. We don't have the time to do a good translation of http://koha.org/ For the next months I can plan: -- We build http://www.koha.it with links to documentation / info pages in http://www.koha.org -- We insert few specific italian information (Koha documentation about RAICAT, the new italian catalouging rules , italian transaltion tips, and things like those) Bye Zeno Tajoli Zeno Tajoli CILEA - Segrate (MI) tajoliAT_SPAM_no_prendiATcilea.it (Indirizzo mascherato anti-spam; sostituisci quanto tra AT con @)

Zebra indexing aborts with "Bad magic of `gmatch'"
by Marc Nürnberger 11 May '09

11 May '09

Dear All, Thank you for your help with the MARC-import failures. In case anyone is experiencing trouble with large MARC-import-files that do not complete after staging: our faulty MARC records were hiding between 20 to 50 records after the last record successfully imported. Having mastered the import, the zebra indexing fails with the following message and no records can be searched: 09:28:14-11/05 zebraidx(13250) [warn] Bad magic of `gmatch' 09:28:14-11/05 zebraidx(13250) [fatal] Node node_zebra missing 09:28:14-11/05 zebraidx(13250) [warn] Cannot obtain EXPLAIN information 09:28:14-11/05 zebraidx(13250) [fatal] zebra_begin_trans: cannot open register Any hints how to deal with this error message would be warmly appreciated. Best regards, Marc

From the desk of the Head Bullshitter

Salvete! I can't very well put "Stand up philosopher" on my nametag at gatherings if I don't BS, so here goes. Rip it to shreds in the name of improvement! I'm not seeking to impose my views, but rather to provide a starting point with words I'd string together if someone pressed me for a description of what we're on about. The mission of the Koha project is to produce and maintain an evolutionary and revolutionary open source Integrated Library System. Through collaboration, our community hopes to offer a cutting edge, reliable catalogue that sets the benchmark in usability and innovation. We seek to free users of the morass of proprietary data and orphaned products and empower Koha users to share their strengths in a stable, nurturing environment. Cheers, Brooke

Re: [Koha] Koha trademarks

Whoops "Liblime purchased all copyrights to the Koha code and marks that Katipo used to own" ok that being so... it changes things! remember most of my time here was before KOHA even was mark record complaint and certainly before lib-lime even existed! I remember people in France & UK not even wanting LC system in Koha... guess that got straightened out eh we have both dewey and lc! I wandered onto other projects shortly after I offered the suggestion to use google methodology as the search method.. and as far as I know that was implemented. Pat (?) In Utah was the kati ki whatever ya call it. I sporadically monitor the list.... but a possible logo war got my attention! What have I done in the meantime? still museum stuff but also filmaking news shooting won an Emmy (R) Award in 07. Life is GOOD! getting old is a bit creaky but expected! Still waiting for Koha to run on shared hosting with out any special necessities.. due to the cheap cost of hosting and large amounts of storage available these days I did not want to baby sit servers any longer so years back went to offsite servers. Makes it nice when you are on vacation if there is an outage you just call up and prod them! In a message dated 5/10/2009 6:49:55 P.M.
