Cannot find recently added items?
by Marty 29 Apr '09

After doing a force (re)install of MARC::File::SAX I do not get a 'production mode - trapped fatal error' error. It's something. However, after adding some books for testing, I cannot find them in Koha 3. Searching on barcode or title does not return anything. They do show up in mysql (see below). I did a rebuild_nozebra. All previously imported items (from koha 2.2.9) do show up. The koha logs don't show any errors apart from some missing stylesheets. The apache2 log however, returns heaps, I just show the bottom end of it here: [Tue Apr 28 15:45:41 2009] additem.pl: Use of uninitialized value in addition (+) at /usr/share/koha/lib/C4/Biblio.pm line 2538. Migrating data from phpmylibrary to Koha
by Melanie Saldua 28 Apr '09

28 Apr '09

How to do it exactly? I have an idea but I don't know if it is right or not. Here's my idea. 1. Extract the database and export it as an excel file 2. Map/Match the fields from phpmylibrary and koha 3. Manipulate the data (excel file) to match koha's database structure 4. Save the data as text file with tabs as separation 5. Import/Dumb the data (text file) into koha's database by using webmin's import from text file feature. Anyone have a better idea? A faster way to migrate the data? A script for data migration maybe? It will help me a lot. Thanks

Migration how to
by Nelson Fredsell -CCE 27 Apr '09

27 Apr '09

Were setting up a small consortium of NGO/non-profit libraries, using a single Koha installation. Some of them use Dewey, some dont. Settings for multiple classification schemes -- In Home | Admin | SysPrefs | Cataloguing itemcallnumber: I suppose Dewey collections would assign 082, but non-Dewey 852? What setting to use when multiple schemes exist? Catalogue Migration: Is there any documentation on how to do this, in addition to the brief descriptions in the Koha manual? Ø Were moving from proprietary-format Microsoft Access to MARC-format Koha. Freeware utilities to make this possible? Im not sure MarcEdit is quite there yet, maybe with next release? Ø Cleaning up the data. Wed like to run Z39.50 searches on our items once in Koha, but wont this delete important MARC data 9xx, like barcode / itemcallnumber / etc.? What if we used proprietary keywords, notes, categories that we want to keep? Does the native Koha Z39.50 search remove all this? Ø Does anyone ever use a utility to access the (Zebra?) data directly, rather than via the Koha front end? Couldnt I cleanup data more quickly using a model like Microsoft Access attached tables? Is Zebra a relational database? Ø Do I want to consider XML format as an intermediary between MARC and Access? I dont know anything about XML format. Any further documentation on migration of Circulation, Authorities? I did manage to import Patrons with the Koha interface! Thanks very much, Nelson Fredsell Cape Town, South Africa www.cfce.org.za

Modifying Field's Data Type In the Koha Database
by Melanie Saldua 27 Apr '09

27 Apr '09

Hello! I'm a new koha user and I'm trying to migrate my existing database to the koha database. I was wondering if it is possible to change the data type of the fields in the koha database? I need to modify biblionumber's data type from int(11) to bigint(100). Is there a faster way to do it than modify every table?
