Re: [Koha] Saving MARC records very slow
by Joe Atzberger 30 Jun '09

I find it totally undesirable to make or maintain any changes in the cataloging module for the purpose of going HTML-only. Your sense of server-side processing advantage may or may not translate to an advantage in actual environment constraints. Consider that adding a repeatable field would have to constitute a new request and response for each element, parsing the marcxl each time, aggregating form state changes in some yet undefined table. The server might validate the end results faster, but getting there just became 30 times as expensive and you still need to round trip to the server to get the results. I'd wager that exactly zero of our clients would prefer scriptless cataloguing, and would likewise be upset for Koha to sacrifice scripted features for it. Cataloging is already a huge amount of logic. Duplicating the plugins to operate cleanly as server-side validators would be a major undertaking in itself, and be more likely to introduce runtime warnings and fatals. As pointed out, this is because of Javascript. Question: can Koha operate properly with JS disabled? If not, why not? Observation: JS is quite slow compared the server itself. Perhaps the *HUGE* task of validating a MARC save could be (optionally) left to the server to validate. cheers rickw -- _________________________________ Rick Welykochy || Praxis Services Debra Jackson says she likes shopping at the Dollar Palace because it's convenient and casual. Wisconsin Koha Enthusiasts Inaugural Meeting
by Vicki Teal Lovely 29 Jun '09

29 Jun '09

Attention Midwest area Koha users and interested librarians... Several libraries in Wisconsin are using Koha already and others are in the process of migrating to Koha. Many others are interested in Koha (and other open source options). Koha enthusiasts of all kinds will benefit from a meeting to keep up to date on what is happening with Koha and Koha related events. There is also a need for Koha users to pool resources, knowledge and troubleshooting information. We have an opportunity to have a greater influence on Koha development and features than we could individually. Organizers are proposing that we call this group the Wisconsin Koha Enthusiasts (WisKE). *The first meeting of the Wisconsin Koha Enthusiasts (WisKE) will be held from 2 to 4 PM on July 29, following WiLS World.* WiLS is graciously allowing us to use a meeting room at the Pyle Center. This will be an informal meeting for anyone who is using Koha, anyone who is interested in migrating to Koha or anyone who is interested in Open Source to get together and talk about Koha. If you have any questions, please contact Cory Jaeger (CJaeger(a)dce.k12.wi.us) or Vicki Teal Lovely (vtl(a)scls.lib.wi.us) If you are interested in attending the Wisconsin Koha Enthusiasts meeting on July 29, please fill out the following brief survey: http://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?hl=en&formkey=cmpNNERfaXVnSGlVTFNyd….. -- Vicki Teal Lovely vtl(a)scls.lib.wi.us Software Applications Supervisor SCLS Automation 201 W. Has anyone changed the layout of circulation slips?
by Agnes Rivers-Moore 29 Jun '09

29 Jun '09

Hello all I was just wondering whether anyone has felt the need to alter the layout of the circulation slip printer output? We find that the title often takes up 3 or 4 lines, which are separated by whitespace where the date and barcode number appear, as follows: The Lord of the rings, the 06/24/2009 219030045678 fellowship of the ring. We would like to rearrange this so the date and barcode share one line (which will fit easily on the slip printer paper), and the title has a whole line (or more) to itself. Has anyone else made changes to how the printable data is arranged? Where in Koha should I look for the template for this? Agnes -- Agnes Rivers-Moore Assistant Librarian Hanover Public Library

Re: [Koha] How to change currency symbol?
by Krishnan M 29 Jun '09

29 Jun '09

While it is true that it is hardcoded in some places (i have noticed it when i glanced through the templates), my understanding is that the currency which has its exchange rate designated as 1 is picked up by Koha as the default currency. So if you added the Indian rupee, change the exchange rates of other currencies relative to it, and set itself to 1. i am unable to verify this immediately, but i remember that this has come up on the list before, and perhaps is on the help page as well. regards, krishnan --- On Sun, 28/6/09, Owen Leonard <oleonard(a)myacpl.org> wrote: From: Owen Leonard <oleonard(a)myacpl.org> Subject: Re: [Koha] How to change currency symbol? True, and there is an open bug report for it, of sorts: http://bugs.koha.org/cgi-bin/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=2547 As I comment in the bug report: it sounds like we need some changes to the "Currencies and Exchange Rates" interface to enable the designation of a particular currency as the default. Once we're able to establish a default currency we could set a system-wide variable for that currency and modify the templates to include the proper symbol. -- Owen -- Web Developer Athens County Public Libraries http://www.myacpl.org _______________________________________________ Koha mailing list Koha(a)lists.katipo.co.nz http://lists.katipo.co.nz/mailman/listinfo/koha Cricket on your mind? Koha 3.0.2 error log entries
by Marcel de Rooy 29 Jun '09

29 Jun '09

Hi, I am running Koha 3.0.2 stable on Fedora 10 with Zebra. I notice the following errors in the Koha OPAC error log. Just accessing the OPAC main page results in one additional error line: opac-main.pl: PARAM:LOOP:next_loop:hash pointer was expected but not found at /usr/local/lib64/perl5/site_perl/5.10.0/x86_64-linux-thread-multi/HTML/Template/Pro.pm line 191. Just performing a search from the main page produces 50 errors (!!): 20x opac-search.pl: Use of uninitialized value $aulast in concatenation (.) or string at /usr/share/koha/lib/C4/Biblio.pm line 1132. 20x opac-search.pl: Use of uninitialized value $aufirst in concatenation (.) or string at /usr/share/koha/lib/C4/Biblio.pm line 1132. 7x opac-search.pl: Use of uninitialized value in concatenation (.) or string at /usr/share/koha/lib/C4/Biblio.pm line 1116. 1x opac-search.pl: PARAM:LOOP:next_loop:hash pointer was expected but not found at /usr/local/lib64/perl5/site_perl/5.10.0/x86_64-linux-thread-multi/HTML/Template/Pro.pm line 191. 1x File does not exist: /usr/share/koha/opac/htdocs/opac-tmpl/prog/images/placehold-small.gif 1x 404.pl: PARAM:LOOP:next_loop:hash pointer was expected but not found at /usr/local/lib64/perl5/site_perl/5.10.0/x86_64-linux-thread-multi/HTML/Template/Pro.pm line 191. Both pages appear in the browser correctly, but the performance seems rather slow. Does anyone of you how to resolve these errors? Are they affecting performance? Regards, Marcel de Rooy
