So the mapping and changing in MARCedit seems OK now. However, I still have a couple more questions for you. 1. There seems to be Alice fields missing in the export and I'm wondering what you did about this or if there is an Alice setting to correct it. I entered a fake 'book' into both systems and exported to MARC for comparison. The following are the results. Note in 852 of the Alice export there are no subfields for missing, supplier, shelving location, acquisition date, etc. In the Koha export these subfields are present. Did you have this problem? Did you manually input it, just leave it out or did you find a way to export it? Linking an item to multiple bibliographic records

Koha folks, In the migration process for my library, I've come across an odd subset of records in our existing ILS. This system allows you to link an item record to multiple bib records. We use this for providing additional access to certain issues of certain medical journals; these issues are at once a volume/issue of a series AND a monographic publication with ISBN. Patrons may look for the resource under either paradigm, either trying to find an article within (using a journal citation), or obtain a book on a specific topic (these certain issues are grouped by subject). Example: Seminars in Neurology, volume 12 (1992) has the monographic title "Neurodermatology". The series record just has the subject heading "Neurology-Periodicals", while monographic record has subject heading "Neurodermatitis" and an authority link to the editor. Koha's data structure doesn't allow a record in the Items table to point to multiple records in the Biblio and Biblioitems table. Let's ignore that Biblio and Biblioitems are split, since there has been discussion of merger in the future, and best not to hack a solution on something that'll disappear. What other ways could we come up with share the item information between two different bibs? Here are a few of my ideas; I'd love to hear more! * Attach the item to the monographic record, and fill in the series information to match the series record. Add some kind of code to the series record's display to show items attached to other bibs with the same ISSN and/or series title. * Attach the item to either record, and then do some kind of field repurposing in the Item record to include the biblio/biblioitem number of the other, and have the OPAC display this somehow. * Just include a link the monographic record to the series, and tell people to look there for the item's location/availability * Duplicate the item record, and come up with some kind of way to sync it... must show both items checked out if one is. * Keep the item data in both MARCXML records, but only import the info into MySQL for one * Use the Summary level in Koha 3.2... somehow.... Have any of you encountered this kind of problem before? What were your solutions? Does the above make sense? Could something else be done? Hello, First of all, thanks for the helpful responses; I have a much better idea of how the advanced pattern tool works now. However, I tried entering the values suggested in the FAQ at http://koha.org/documentation/faq/how-do-i-create-a-new-subscription-for -a-journal-with-continuous-numbering/view, and they do not seem to be working. When I test the prediction, I get the following result: Based on the information entered, the Numbering Pattern will look like this: * Vol 104, No 486 * Vol 104, No 486 * Vol 104, No 486 * Vol 104, No 486 * Vol 104, No 486 If I remove the values from the "year" column (z), I get: Vol 104, No 486 Vol 104, No 487 Vol 104, No 488 Vol 104, No 489 Vol 104, No 490 Vol 104, No 491 Vol 104, No 492 Vol 104, No 493 Vol 104, No 494 Vol 104, No 495 Vol 104, No 496 Vol 104, No 497 The volume doesn't change every four. You need to run MarcEdit's MarcBreaker utility on the .dat file and then use MarcEdit's MarcEditor to read it. It should have a nice intuitive layout. Next, from the Tools menu, use the Edit Field Data and Swap Field Data tools to manipulate your fields and subfields. Finally, from the File menu, select 'Compile to MARC' to put it back into a .dat format. Unfortunately, I don't have my notes on the exact Alice-to-Koha subfield mapping handy (as it's been quite a while) but if you look at Koha's 952 subfield numbers/letters on Koha's 'Add Item' screen and then look at the 995 (I think) subfields of your exported record, you should be able to tell which subfields correspond. Johshua, The following error occurs when trying to download the Koha install PDF: "Your PHP installation appears to be missing the MySQL which is required for WordPress." It appears you need to compile PHP with MySQL support. Thanks for the documentation! bobm...........
