Accession numbers, again

Sorry, I'm a little fixated on this, partly due to the archival and historical nature of our collection. I am desperately looking for a way to keep barcodes and accession numbers separate, but searchable. A while back I asked where to put accession numbers and it was the general consensus to put them in the barcode subfield (p) of 952. I understand why you do this, because it is a) part of the item information and b) can be searched discretely. But this means you have to print out your own barcodes, a process I would rather avoid given our inflexible*** networked printer (which is on a different floor!) My questions, then. If I decide to use some other subfield (perhaps adding one in) how hard would it be for my IT wizard to create a discrete search for it in the staff mode (similar to the barcode search)? I suppose the process would have to be repeated for each update of the software? I experimented with putting it into the public note. This displays well enough, but you can't actually search on this field, and a string of numbers in a keyword search brings up roughly half of the items in my test collection. Clearly, that's not very useful. Is there any chance an accession number subfield in the item record is in the pipline for a later release? Or, alternatively, I could use some advice on barcode printing equipment. Stand alone barcode printers vs a desktop laser printer? Does printing them yourself make sense if you've got 10,000+ items? Unfortunately, our numbering system is a little quirky using similar runs of numbers with different prefixes for different types of material, so getting a straight run of pre-printed labels would be awkward, and matching them up to the material would be a heck of a job. make test fails on Bookfund and Boolean

I have some errors in my make test, I did a quick search on the web but apart from manual installing XML::LibXSLT (version 1.70, should it maybe be another version?) which I tried, I could not find many related answers. Please see my make test output below. Doing a make install worked, I have the koha install screen, but I would prefer to have no failed tests. Authority Type Help in Koha

Hi all, The Help file in Koha for Authority Types says the following: ***Authority types You can define as many Authority types as you want. * with the MARC structure button, you can define the MARC structure of a given authority type * The tag reported must contain a MARC tag number. Every subfield in the selected tag will be copied to the "destination tag" in the biblio. for example, in UNIMARC, the tag 200 ot personal authority will be reported to 600, 700, 701, depending on what is cliqued in the biblio MARC editor. * The summary contains an "ISBD" like description to explain how the entry must be shown in the result list. The syntax is : o [xxxFFFSyyy] where are up to 3 digits BEFORE the field, FFF the field number, S the subfield code, yyy up to 3 digits AFTER the field. o things outside [] are kept as is (including HTML) o repeatable fields are managed. IMPORTANT In the biblio framework, the reported tag MUST contain a $9 subfield, activated in the tab where the tag is, and hidden (hidden maybe omitted, but the field has no reason to appear anywhere). The $9 subfield in the biblio will contain the Authority number (the internal Koha number)*** My question is - what the heck is this talking about :) hehe - I don't see anywhere where a summary is listed. I'm wondering if this is for an older version of Koha and I just never removed it from the Help. Thanks Nicole

Hi Chris, We are using a basic printer Lexmark 640 Series. I'm able to access the scanner configuration (as attached) by scanning barcodes printed by this printer though, so I guess it's not the printer? The attached is the scanner configuration options, we are using Voyager MS9590. I have enabled code 39, enabled ISBN check digit transmission, and enabled bookland to ISBN conversion as suggested, and left everything else to default. Thank you for your help. Need installation help

Hi everyone, I'm new to Koha, and to this list. I'm trying to set up Koha (version koha-3.00.04_fixed, downloaded from http://koha.org/) for a very small community library, and am running into trouble installing the software. The server is running Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid). Installing: CGI Issues
