Dear Friends, I noticed queries appreared in this discussion forum about the availability of Koha (3.x) windows version. Many Library professionals like to see latest version of Koha work with Windows. XAMPP and EasyPHP with Windows are very popular among non techie librarians due to its user friendliness. We cannot blame admirers of Windows OS. Windows arrived early in desktop OS market and made popularity due to its user friendliness. As a library professional, may I share one experience regarding the inconsistency of Windows while using for the installation of library management system like Koha. Virus attack and related vulnerabilities make Windows operating system not suitable for production server purpose. I installed Koha windows version more than four times in this year for a school library in our city. The school Librarian is one of my friend he is a non techie. His OS was Windows XP and formatted the system every two month due to virus attack. In this situation he could not enjoy the service of Koha. Last month I installed Koha with Mint Linux (www. <http://www.linuxmint.com/>*linuxmint*.com<http://www.linuxmint.com/>) erasing Windows in his system. After that, he has not complained regarding virus and Koha run there well. Mint Linux provides good user friendly interface. My friend work with Linux and Koha without any difficulty. He is using the Linux based applications for his day to day activities (word processing, net surfing etc). In my experience Linux OS is more suitable for Koha. Majority of the Library professionals are not familiar with Linux and therefore they are not in a position to install Koha with Linux. I hope that Koha Live CD is a good solution to this problem. Mizstik project ( http://mizstik.com/projects/koha-livecd/) is a good initiative to this direction. I hope that more Koha Live CD's would develop on various Linux distributions and then installation of Koha will not be a difficulty. My request to library professionals is that, try to use Koha latest version with Linux instead of trying previous Windows version (2.x). If you are not familiar with Linux and Koha, try to attend Koha workshop organize soon in your area and acquire the technical competency. -- Vimal Kumar V. Asst. Doc Help - New Acq Permissions

Hi all, I'm not sure who specifically to send this to so I'm sending it to the entire list. I'm working on documenting the new permissions. I need some help with additional details for the acquisitions permissions: * budget_add_del Add and delete budgets (but can't modify budgets) * budget_manage Manage budgets * budget_modify Modify budget (can't create lines but can modify existing ones) * contracts_manage Manage contracts * group_manage Manage orders & basketgroups * order_manage Manage orders & basket * order_receive Manage orders & basket * period_manage Manage periods * planning_manage Manage budget plannings * vendors_manage Manage vendors Most importantly - I need clarification on what "Manage" entails for everything. Next, both order_manage and order_receive have the same description - what's the diff between the two? Regarding the 2 budget permissions - Add & Delete makes sense, Modify makes sense - what then do you need the Manage permission for? What do you get to do when Managing that you can't do with the other two. What is a basket group? What is a period? What is a budget planning? Thanks a bunch! Nicole

Suppress holdings tab in OPAC?

Hi, all, Is there a way to suppress the Holdings tab in the OPAC? We're using Koha Express. Our collection is not barcoded, so every record displays a "No holdings" statement. Printing of patronimages on Patron Cards

Dear All Is there anyway to print the patronimages (If enabled in preferences) on Patron Cards at /home/tools/labels in Koha 3? And anyway to customize the patron card to display following information on it?: 1- Patron Id (In nemeric and Barcodes format) 2- Patron Name 3- Library Branch Name 4- Patron Image 5- Date of Expiry of membership 6- Address 7- Patron Category (Student, Staff, etc) Regards, Ata

koha 3.0.4 not "status" showing in opac

Sorry for cross-posting. I want to bring this across to the general list. I am seeing the same problem as Zico. It is in a 3.0.4 instance with a data base that was upgraded from Koha 2.2.9. The 'status' field in the opac-detail page is blank. The status displays correctly in the detail page of the staff client. Any suggestions? Help needed in Label Creator

Hello all. I'm using KOHA 3.0.3 in Debian Lenny. I have currently tried to set up the label creator for books and patrons. I started creating the labels but ran into a small problem. Generating labels for books is going good, but I'm facing problems in generating labels for patrons. I can generate visible label only when I select the Print Type as "Patron Cards", but this layout gives homebranch, patron type and patron barcode. The thing that annoys me is that I only want the patron barcode nothing else. I have tried to use "only barcodes" type and also assigned barcode field in the text field type but it generates blank pdfs. The only way I can get patron label pdf is by selecting the patron cards type. I tried to look at the documentaion but it doesn't explain about the "patron cards" type. I just want to remove the homebranch library name and parton type from the output generated by "patron cards" type. Please Help. Koha zebra index issue

Dear All Hope you are doing well I've installed koha 3.004 at Debian Lenny. Installation was smooth without any error. When I add some record the record is saving in MySQL but I got no result found message in OPAC and Intranet. I tried several time rebuild_zebra.pl -r -b -a command. I've also tried zebraquedaemon but no result. what should i do? Ata
