Exporting variables and executing rebuild scripts is nothing but Bash's functionality. But perl does provide a way to execute bash commands. So I think you don't need separate .sh files but just modify the existing Koha code. Another advantage is Koha runs as a CGI application. So what you are saying is possible. The only problem I see here is, rebuilding a zebra index requires superuser privileges. So I think it's not a good idea to provide a user with such a "button". If you read Koha Installation Doc, they have provided a CRON script which runs every 5 minutes to rebuild zebra index. Of course you can adjust that interval anytime. (I hope you are using Debian or equivalent GNU/Linux distribution to run Koha on) -- With Regards Abhishek Amberkar http://www.kohaindia.org/ RDG Library Services Mumbai, India. _______________________________________________ Koha mailing list Koha(a)lists.katipo.co.nz http://lists.katipo.co.nz/mailman/listinfo/koha

Some issues related to KOHA 3.0
by nitesh rijal 01 Jan '10

01 Jan '10

Hello all. Happy New Year to all. I have used KOHA for 3 months and now almost all of my problems has been solved. Thanks to all the members of the list who always replied to other posts and helped people out in the best way they could. KOHA is such a stable package that I could modify the codes very well and get it to work as I wanted. I have added few functionalities by modifying the codes. I have added biblio search option, direct biblio edit and also fulltext integration in a newer way. I am now testing the barcode system to be used with our system. I hope it works too. I am a bit confused that what happens when I scan a barcode, what inteface should I use to scan it and what features should I enable??? The other thing I wanted to ask is that is it possible to run the rebuild_zebra.pl in my server through a button click in the web interface by the client. We have 12 libraries hosted in a single KOHA install using the multiple zebra multiple database facility. Each library's database needs to be selected first using "use library1" and then we need to export the KOHA_CONF as "export KOHA_CONF=/etc/koha/library1-conf.xml" and then only we can execute the rebuild script. I was thinking to make another sh script to store all the commands that needs to be executed and then execute the script. I just wanted to know that is it possible to execute a script in the server by clicking a button in the web interface. Thanks and Happy New Year to all once again. KOHA is a great community. -- Nitesh Rijal BE IT email: rijal.it(a)gmail.com url: http://niteshrijal.com.np facebook: http://facebook.com/openrijal twitter: http://twitter.com/openrijal +9779841458173

overdue e-mail notice triggers
by Nelson Fredsell (nelsonf) 31 Dec '09

31 Dec '09

Hello all, I can't get the overdue notices to trigger using crontab, nor can I generate the notices manually by running the perl script from the command line in PuTTY. !! We're Koha 3.00.01 using Postfix. crontab lines include For testing, I'm trying to generate notices ONLY for my patron type (LIB-S - superlibrarian) and my branch (CFCE). Under Home>Administration>Patron categories only LIB-S patron type is set to Overdue = Yes. All others are set to Overdue = No. 1) I have overdue items due over several days, Dec 19, 20, 21, 22. in Home>Tools>Notice triggers (../overduerules.pl). 2) I have Default library set to Delay NULL and Letters 1,2,3 set to "No Notice". 3) However, on library CFCE and patron type LIB-S I have Delays set to 6,7,8 (days) on and Letters 1,2,3 set to "Overdue notice" (code is ODUE). Then I open PuTTY and run the 2 perl scripts listed in the nightly crontab: 1) perl -I /usr/share/koha/lib /usr/share/koha/bin/cronjobs/overdue_notices.pl -t 2) perl -I /usr/share/koha/lib /usr/share/koha/bin/cronjobs/process_message_queue.pl Overdue_notices.pl output looks pretty odd, and indicated 'returns 0 rows ... at line 370' on all passes. Anyway, no e-mails received! I ran this yesterday (28-Dec) and would have expected notices on items due 20,21 and 22-Dec because of Delay settings 6,7,8 days. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Any guides to working with CatExpress subscription service?
by Steven Owley 30 Dec '09

30 Dec '09

Hi everyone, Cataloging newbie here. Please excuse the elementary nature of this question. My client is using Koha, would like to start using OCLC's CatExpress subscription service (which downloads the records the next day). Are there any guides to setting up Koha to work with these CatExpress files, and/or workflow examples, out there? I am especially concerned with getting the 856 URI properly handled. Thanks, Steve

Help needed in Conditional variables passing to templates
by nitesh rijal 28 Dec '09

28 Dec '09

Hello all. I am using KOHA 3.0.3 in Debian Lenny. I am trying to integrate the fulltext viewing option of GSDL in KOHA in a different way than the existing one. When we search for a string in KOHA then it displays a list of results. I am trying to make a link to GSDL fulltext option through KOHA records directly. In the search results we have a place holder named "ACTION" where I have placed a link "View Full Text". On clicking the link it goes to the GSDL and searches the records for the particular author and title. I found that matching both title and author is not possible in GSDL so I decided to match just the author and display results. My main problem is that, I have made a field 953 'a' for storing whether the particular record has fulltext or not. If the field says "YES" then I need to display the "View Full Text" link in the "ACTIONS" placeholder of the search results. I have come to know that we can use to make conditional variable passing and displaying, but I am having a problem in deciding whether the field 953 'a' contains a "YES" or a "NO". How can I find out that for every record in the current search result. I have looked into the search.pl and search.tmpl but got no idea from that. Please Help me. Thank you. -- Nitesh Rijal BE IT email: rijal.it(a)gmail.com url: http://niteshrijal.com.np facebook: http://facebook.com/openrijal twitter: http://twitter.com/openrijal +9779841458173
