Authority Type Help in Koha
by Nicole Engard 18 Dec '09

18 Dec '09

Hi all, The Help file in Koha for Authority Types says the following: ***Authority types You can define as many Authority types as you want. * with the MARC structure button, you can define the MARC structure of a given authority type * The tag reported must contain a MARC tag number. Every subfield in the selected tag will be copied to the "destination tag" in the biblio. for example, in UNIMARC, the tag 200 ot personal authority will be reported to 600, 700, 701, depending on what is cliqued in the biblio MARC editor. * The summary contains an "ISBD" like description to explain how the entry must be shown in the result list. The syntax is : o [xxxFFFSyyy] where are up to 3 digits BEFORE the field, FFF the field number, S the subfield code, yyy up to 3 digits AFTER the field. o things outside [] are kept as is (including HTML) o repeatable fields are managed. IMPORTANT In the biblio framework, the reported tag MUST contain a $9 subfield, activated in the tab where the tag is, and hidden (hidden maybe omitted, but the field has no reason to appear anywhere). The $9 subfield in the biblio will contain the Authority number (the internal Koha number)*** My question is - what the heck is this talking about :) hehe - I don't see anywhere where a summary is listed. I'm wondering if this is for an older version of Koha and I just never removed it from the Help. Thanks Nicole

Re: [Koha] Scanning Barcodes
by Davita Janto 18 Dec '09

Hi Chris, We are using a basic printer Lexmark 640 Series. I'm able to access the scanner configuration (as attached) by scanning barcodes printed by this printer though, so I guess it's not the printer? The attached is the scanner configuration options, we are using Voyager MS9590. I have enabled code 39, enabled ISBN check digit transmission, and enabled bookland to ISBN conversion as suggested, and left everything else to default. Thank you for your help. Need installation help
by Ista Zahn 17 Dec '09

Hi everyone, I'm new to Koha, and to this list. I'm trying to set up Koha (version koha-3.00.04_fixed, downloaded from http://koha.org/) for a very small community library, and am running into trouble installing the software. The server is running Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid). I followed the installation instructions in the INSTALL.ubuntu file shipped with the program to the letter, but when I run 'make test' I got the following errors: # Failed test '5 of 3 pieces produced' # at t/Labels_split_ddcn.t line 30. t/Labels_split_ddcn............NOK 64/82 # Failed test '(MP3-CD F PARKER)[0] matches: MP3-CD' # at t/Labels_split_ddcn.t line 35. t/Labels_split_ddcn............NOK 66/82 # Failed test '(MP3-CD F PARKER)[1] matches: F' # at t/Labels_split_ddcn.t line 35. t/Labels_split_ddcn............NOK 68/82 # Failed test '(MP3-CD F PARKER)[2] matches: PARKER' # at t/Labels_split_ddcn.t line 35. # Looks like you failed 4 tests of 82. t/Labels_split_ddcn............dubious Test returned status 4 (wstat 1024, 0x400) DIED. FAILED tests 62, 64, 66, 68 Failed 4/82 tests, 95.12% okay I went ahead with 'make install' anyway, and followed the remaining instructions. When I finished, I pointed my browser to <MyDomain>:8080 but it just says "The requested URL / was not found on this server." My guess is that the problem is either related to the error message above, or to my apache configuration. My apache config file is pasted below. I'll be really grateful for any pointers on what to try next, as I'm feeling pretty stuck at this point. Thanks! Koha as an SFX Target

Folks, Has anyone gotten their installation of Ex Libris' SFX Open Link Resolver to successfully generate a link to search their Koha catalogue for a journal/e-book? I'm working with the configurations right now, and just can't seem to get them right. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. MySQL and utf8 in the installation instructions
by Erik Lewis 17 Dec '09

17 Dec '09

Just a thought but something that has bothered me about the instructions for installing Koha. In the instructions your pointed to warnings about installing with utf8 and no real approachable guidance on how to ensure you create your Koha database in MySQL as utf8. Wouldn't this addition to all the instructions fix that problem and alleviate the need to do extensive reading on MySQL character sets? create database koha character set utf8

Re: [Koha] [Koha-devel] koha 3.0.4 biblio records
by Bob Birchall ＠ Calyx 17 Dec '09

Zico, Lets take this to the general list, as MJ suggested. Shouldn't you be using the -z option for incremental updates? Nonetheless, that is not the cause of the problem. The problem does not occur in fresh installs, it seems to only occur where a data base has been upgraded from an earlier version. So does that suggest that a data element has been lost in the upgrade? If so, why is the problem only in the OPAC? It needs a bit of research to identify the exact circumstance. I won't be able to do that until after Christmas.
