Independent branch?
by Laurie Henry 12 Jan '10

12 Jan '10

Hello, First, I wanted to say that we were able to resolve our MARC importing issues. Thank you to those who suggested solutions. Our school has six campuses. Books travel freely among five of the campuses, but the sixth campus is too far away for intralibrary loan to be feasible. That sixth library has not yet migrated to Koha. My question is, if you have a similar situation, could you send me a URL so I can see (and show others) how Koha looks, with a combination of independent and non-independent branches? I'm having a bit of trouble envisioning this. Zebra indexing issue
by Koller Wolfgang 12 Jan '10

12 Jan '10

Hi all! We are now starting to use Koha in a production environment, and encountered some strange behaviour when it comes to series. We've catalouged some Series which do not have a title, but only a series title. So far no problem. However when searching for them, some times the result shows the correct series title, and sometimes it show "No Title". It seems as if Zebra (which we are using for indexing) sometimes returns the series title as title, and sometimes it wont. Any clues / hints / tips what I can do / check? Error while adding authority

Hi, When we try to add a new authority, we have the following error : Koha error The following fatal error has occurred: No _parse_* routine defined on this driver (If it is a filter, remember to set the Parent property. How to add custom fields in new patron creation
by nitesh rijal 11 Jan '10

11 Jan '10

Hello all. I am using KOHA 3.0.3 in Debian Lenny. I was trying to add a patron in the library of Student type. I can see that the fields available there are not enough, I want to add some more fields in it. In our library there we need to add fields like: "Level", "Address", "Interests" etc. I know that it is possible to do so through modifying the source and database, but I just wanted to know that is there any way we can do it from the Staff Client Interface. I got the source template file, but how do I define the variables in the template source so that my link from source goes to the database. Thank you. cleanup_database.pl is not described in either version of the manual: http://koha.org/documentation/manual/3.2/appendices/cron-jobs What does it do? Will it break if used in 3.0 ? Culling old session data
by Rick Welykochy 09 Jan '10

09 Jan '10

HI all, We have a Koha instance that has way too many entries in the sessions table for reason I won't go since the "why" is unimportant. Is there a periodic job that can be run to cull old sessions from the table? We don't want to backup all the useless session data every night. cheers rick -- _________________________________ Rick Welykochy || Praxis Services If you have any trouble sounding condescending, find a Unix user to show you how it's done. -- Scott Adams

Cataloging workflow
by Owen Leonard 08 Jan '10

08 Jan '10

I'd like to take an informal survey to get some ideas from the Koha-using community. My library has never done the bulk of its cataloging within Koha. We switched to Koha from a system which didn't have a good cataloging module, so our catalogers have always been most comfortable with their separate cataloging tools. However, we're always looking for ideas for improving our workflow. Koha users, are you doing all your cataloging within Koha? If not, what are you using? -- Owen -- Web Developer Athens County Public Libraries http://www.myacpl.org

How do I bulk delete bibliographic records (of one given item type)?
by Ricardo Dias Marques 08 Jan '10

08 Jan '10

Hi everyone... and Happy New Year! :) I thought this would be easy, but I'm not finding it: in Koha 3.0.x (3.0.5, in my case), is there a way to bulk delete biblio records (of one given item type), either using the web interface or some command line tool / script? In case it is relevant, I'm running Koha in SUSE (SLES 11 - SUSE Linux Enterprise Server), and it's an UNIMARC and NoZebra installation. I know that I could run the Perl script "bulkmarcimport.pl" with the "-d" (delete) switch, in the command line, but that would delete EVERY bibliographic record, and that's not what I want. Thanks in advance. Cheers, Ricardo Dias Marques lists AT ricmarques DOT net Installation Guide for Installing Koha 3 on openSUSE 11 http://wiki.koha.org/doku.php?id=opensuse_11.0
