Setting up Amazon enhanced content - questions
by danbusenbarrick 22 Jan '10

22 Jan '10

Hello, I am a new Koha system administrator running version 3.00.04.019 and have questions regarding Amazon enhanced content. I have the Koha site fully configured and am in the process of cataloging. Could someone direct me to documentation on the configuration required to view enhanced content coming from Amazon? I have configured the associate ID tag, AWS public and private key, and I still see no content. I have manipulated code in another open-source product (using PHP) which makes requests to the Amazon AWS site, and I have verified that my keys work for successfully retrieving XML. Could someone point me to a log where I could see if Koha is attempting to make the Amazon transactions? Is there a log level I have to set to turn this on? I appreciate any input I get, and I will keep the forum posted on my progress. Thanks, Dan -- View this message in context: http://old.nabble.com/Setting-up-Amazon-enhanced-content---questions-tp2727… Sent from the Koha - Discuss mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

run zebra as a daemon on suse linux
by Peace Pear 22 Jan '10

22 Jan '10

Hello everybody, I am Ann. I am trying to install Koha on an open suse linux. I already followed all the instructions, but it seems that we lack of document for make zebra run on a suse linux sever. The zebra start sucessfully but as a frontend process with the command: zebra srv -f /etc/koha/koha-conf.xml Then I found some instrutctions how to run zebra as a daemon (http://wiki.koha.org/doku.php?id=koha_3_install_guide_ubuntu_hardy ) but it seems that those applied to ubuntu not suse. But when I am trying to run the koha-zebra-ctl.sh I got, daemon command not found. Have anyone here had experiences working on Suse Linux give me some advices. Thanks in advance. Ann

Re: [Koha] implementation estimate

I think it will vary hugely from one installation to another. We're in the process now, and from what I can see if you have clean data and it converts easily to MARC, and your system is fairly simple, it shouldn't take that long. The dirtier the data, the more awkward the conversion, and the more complex your system is, the longer it will take to set up and test. Sadly, our collection falls into the messy end of the spectrum and I'm not anticipating having anything up before June. But then I only work here 2 days a week and our IT guru is a volunteer. > Message: 2 > Date: Tue, 19 Jan 2010 13:53:20 -0800 > From: Elisebeth VanderWeil <ev(a)ridolfi.com> > Subject: [Koha] implementation estimate > To: "koha(a)lists.katipo.co.nz" <koha(a)lists.katipo.co.nz> > Message-ID: <D8561F6D723C7545A2841BCCF5F6756B3525A08D@STHELENS> > Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" > > Hello - > > Our small firm (20 staff and various consultants) is looking at implementing Koha for our document/information management and I've been lurking on the list for a while to gauge what folks are encountering. One question I have - via our CEO - is how much did implementation of Koha cost in hours, tech support, and migration? We would be migrating from FileMaker and have a small IT support team that is very capable and versed in everything I've thrown at them so far. :) > > Does anyone have a sense of how much time and resources went into their implementation of Koha? > > In gratitude, > > EV VanderWeil, PhD > Information Specialist > > RIDOLFI > science + engineering > > 1011 Western Avenue, Suite 1006, Seattle, WA 98104 > tel 206.682.7294 | dir 206.436.2768 | fax 206.682.5008 > www.ridolfi.com > >

Koha Support Wanted (Ukraine)
by Vinzenz Neuwirth 21 Jan '10

21 Jan '10

Hello, my name is Vincent and I'm currently living in Ukraine working for Ukrainian Center for Holocaust Studies (UCHS). The UCHS, besides other projects, maintains a library that is already growing too big to be effectively administered without a professional library system. Also, it is the UCHS's aim to make all the publications (a big part of them exist only one in Ukraine) available to the public by implementing an OPAC. During my research I strongly consider using Koha for that matter due to the sufficient Ukrainian translation of the software. As a non-techie I'm not capable of doing (all) the installation myself. I therefore need some personal support, someone I can talk to in the first place and who I can hire to do everything I can't do on my own (mainly the whole installation, migration...). Payment will be negotiated. I already know about the Ukrainian translators (http://koha.org/showcase/servantek-ukraine) and I will definitely contact them. I also hope that there is someone out there who also works with Koha in Ukraine. I would really appreciate, if you contacted me. Kind regards, Vincent -- Vinzenz Neuwirth Ukrainian Center for Holocaust Studies Kutuzova St. 8, Off. 109, 01011 Kyiv, Ukraine Tel.: +380-50-4105479 www.holocaust.kiev.ua

Re: [Koha] Users and developers (was KUDOS - ALA Proposed Agenda)
by Jim Minges 21 Jan '10

Hello, I would like to add a few comments to the debate about the KUDOS bylaws. The Koha community has struggled with the problem that it does not have, in the U.S. or worldwide a legal entity that can take action, seek funding, register trademarks, etc. for the good of the community. Well, in order to do that we need to move forward and get KUDOS recognized by the IRS as a nonprofit corporation. This is not rocket science and does not require a CPA or attorney, but I think we need to move forward on it. The bylaws can be changed at any time as desired, but we have to have initial bylaws ASAP in order to file the application with the IRS. There was extensive discussion at the ALA KUDOS meeting about the importance of NOT excluding developers. The bylaws were revised to include any installation of KOHA, which certainly could include a developer who has installed the software. There was general agreement that conflict of interest issues could be dealt with through the conflict of interest policy, and that KUDOS was in general an organization with institutional membership (both users and developers). I do know that the committee that wrote the bylaws and those at the meeting that hashed out revisions were not in any regard exclusionary. If KUDOS is going to be taken seriously, we need to move forward with the incorporation and sort out the philosophical debates and incorporate them into bylaws revisions later if needed. Let's take a deep breath, and get moving. koha express
by Beth Heller 21 Jan '10

Hi. I am one of two librarians at the American Alpine Club in Golden, Colorado - all mountains, all the time. We've got about 60,000 volumes, 20,000 that circulate, and a very small budget. We do have some IT support and one amazing volunteer to help with the tech side of this project, but I am not a coder at all. We are migrating from Spectrum Winnebago. I was planning to upload to Koha Express this week, but given the buyout was wondering if anyone had any information about whether this product will continue and/or any alternatives. Inexpensive alternatives. I would also love to hear from anyone with experience using Koha Express, and anyone who has migrated from Winnebago. Thanks! Re: [Koha] 952p must it be unique?

But is not mandatory at lavel of data storage (MySQL defintions). So what you can do ? During the inpt of items data (with also barcode) in my installation is present a check to control if the barcode is unique. Leave this check and insert some data. Than try if all is OK for you. In the future you could have problems on circulation.
