Koha 3.2 Manual
by Nicole Engard 25 Jan '10

25 Jan '10

Hi all, Chris Cormack has been kind enough to put the new 3.2 manual up for us while I work on fixing the design. This means you can browse the manual as I work on it. Please note, this is not the final home or the final look and feel - this is just a very temporary holding place so that I can work on the style and so that I can see how my XML translates to HTML: http://stats.workbuffer.org/manual_en/ -- ENGLISH http://stats.workbuffer.org/manual_fr/ -- FRENCH (still a work in progress - lots of English) If you have skill with XSLT and want to help me make the design look a bit cleaner, let me know. Also remember you can get the most recent edits in the BibLibre git repo: http://git.biblibre.com/cgi-bin/gitweb.cgi?p=kohadocs;a=summary Thanks a bunch, Nicole C. Engard

recursion problem with requests.pl
by Bryan Lakatos 25 Jan '10

25 Jan '10

Greetings, I just upgraded from 3.0.0 to 3.0.5 today (running ondebian linux "lenny" that is up to date), and all went well, except oneinfinite recursion loop when giving requests.pl a biblionumber query. Forexample, in the admin interface (:8080), having searched the catalog, the list of books includes a link to see any holds on each book. Thisis the link: server:8080/cgi-bin/koha/reserve/request.pl?biblionumber=33769 (with the number changing with each book, of course) Clickingone of these links starts a request.pl process that maxes out the CPUand never returns a response to the browser. I've waited 30 mins onthis (as I went to grab dinner) and it never finished; I had to killthe request.pl process to end it. In the apache error.log, these two lines appear for every time I trigger the problem: [ThuJan 21 21:33:22 2010] Digit.pl: Deep recursion on subroutine"utf8::SWASHNEW" at /usr/share/perl/5.10/utf8_heavy.pl line 251, line 275. [Thu Jan 21 21:33:22 2010] Digit.pl: Deeprecursion on subroutine "CGI::Carp::die" at/usr/share/perl/5.10/utf8_heavy.pl line 198, line 275. If anyone has any tip or advice for me, I'd greatly appreciate it. THANKS! Bryan A. [SOLVED] Searching for a word returns the whole library
by Michail Golubjev 24 Jan '10

24 Jan '10

Thank you very much, Henri-Damien, your patch worked. The search now returns correct values (not extensive testing). To recap the whole issue if somebody should run into the same problem. koha-3.00.05 is installed from a source tarball on ubuntu server karmic. 34 records are added by importing using z39.50 server and marc files. All records contain entries in russian. Performing a search with a specific keyword on the catalogue returns the whole catalogue (all 34 entries w/o exception). Tweaking the search options in the administration section does not help. Applying http://git.biblibre.com/cgi-bin/gitweb.cgi?p=koha;a=commit;h=b4068c1da33de3… is suggested. yaz-icu is installed from the indexdata repository. icu.xml is altered on line 22 to be <icu_chain locale="ru-RU"> (I don't know if this had any effect, was fr_FR before). default.idx is copied to: /etc/koha/zebradb/etc/ /usr/share/idzebra-2.0/tab/ icu.xml is copied to: /etc/koha/zebradb/etc/ Using root the rebuild_zebra.pl script is run first with -a and then with -b (I don't know if this was necessary). Server restarted. Search works as intended. implementation estimate
by Elisebeth VanderWeil 23 Jan '10

Hello - Our small firm (20 staff and various consultants) is looking at implementing Koha for our document/information management and I've been lurking on the list for a while to gauge what folks are encountering. One question I have - via our CEO - is how much did implementation of Koha cost in hours, tech support, and migration? We would be migrating from FileMaker and have a small IT support team that is very capable and versed in everything I've thrown at them so far. :) Does anyone have a sense of how much time and resources went into their implementation of Koha? In gratitude, EV VanderWeil, PhD Information Specialist RIDOLFI science + engineering 1011 Western Avenue, Suite 1006, Seattle, WA 98104 tel 206.682.7294 | dir 206.436.2768 | fax 206.682.5008 www.ridolfi.com

Searching for a word returns the whole library
by Michail Golubjev 22 Jan '10

22 Jan '10

Hi everybody! We are a small russian church in Copenhagen planning to organize our small library using Koha. I have already set up Koha on Ubuntu Server Karmic and started testing it and learning using my own home books as a testing material. I am mainly importing records with the help of z39.50 servers. In particular from Russian State Library directly from inside Koha and using sigla.ruimporting marc records downloaded as files. Now I have stumbled into a problem which I can't find a solution to in the documents and mailing list. I have added a number of books, but when I search for a specific keyword, fx. иоанн, the search returns ALL records. I would like to request your input on this problem, if any further information is needed, please tell me right away. Best regards Michail

koha 3.0.6 soon
by LAURENT Henri-Damien 22 Jan '10

22 Jan '10

Hi, I plan to release a 3.0.6 soon, early next week or the week after. And 3.2 will fix many things we cannot fix with this code base. Nonetheless, I plan to maintain 3.0.x as long as 3.2 is not officially released. You can already see the work in progress on 3.0.x branch of git.koha.org Translators, there are little changes from previous version. That new release would include bug fixes reserve/request.pl and more failsafe for recentacquisitions.pl . But also some enhancement such as the ability to provide a path to xslt stylesheets in sysprefs, a new systempreference to allow librarians of different branches not to see borrowers of other branch. Thanks for your efforts and feedback all. -- Henri-Damien LAURENT Release maintainer 3.0.x

Nevermind...found it. I was looking in a file, not in the interface. However, it doesn't fix the problem, but I do get further. It (instantly) takes me to an error page in the browser: Global symbol "$borr" requires explicit package name at /home/koha/koha3.0.5/koha-3.00.05/reserve/request.pl line 347, line 275. Execution of /home/koha/koha3.0.5/koha-3.00.05/reserve/request.pl aborted due to compilation errors. Thanks for the help; I'll try to Chris' upgrade solution next. Bryan A. I haven't set any DebugLevel, but it might have been preset in the VM Appliance or as a default. How would I go about changing it? Bryan A.
