Reviving the Koha Newsletter

Hello all, I have been asked to Revive the Koha Newsletter. I assume that I was asked because of my writing background and my role in documenting Koha usage. That said, I can't do it alone :) I'm writing to ask if anyone has a short story they want to share in the Koha Newsletter. If you or your library has done something neat with Koha or has just made the move, feel free to send me a short (100-300 words) entry that I can post in the Newsletter. If you have a news item that has already been written up, feel free to share the link with me and I'll put the links in the Newsletter. After the first Newsletter publication in January I'll be asking for more help and content! For now, I'm just going to figure out the best way to make this work and to share your stories! Labels - Code 128

Hello all, We have a problem at one of our customers' sites - their barcode scanners are not reading the labels generated from Koha. At this time it looks like the scanner cannot read code 39 labels. Has anyone experienced this problem? If yes, what was the solution. A related question, Koha does not seem to have an option to generate code 128 barcodes, or does it? Barcode nightmare

We are gradually getting everything together to move to Koha from Alice. Many of you will remember that back in July I was trying out various library systems and decided that Koha was a great system to get on board with. At this time of the year, the nitty-gritty of the system is going to start getting looked at. I have a few questions to ask regarding the system but the most important one is: Is there a way to force Koha to re-write barcodes on the fly? Situation... Our library happens to have two barcode formats on books (long story): Type 1 Example: R36758W 2560 Type 2 Example: + 2560 013037 6 There are two problems with this - both having to do with our existing system (Alice for Windows) not actually cataloguing the whole barcode. Apparently when the system was set up, the following is what it was set up to do (and thus what we need to achieve in Koha since changing the barcodes on all the books is not an option): Type 1 conversion: R36758W 2560 has been stored as R36758 (string is concatenated) Type 2 conversion: + 2560 013037 6 has been stored as R13037 (string is rearranged and concatenated - ie. first 4 characters removed The letter 'W' in the first type is randomised on the barcodes so there is no way of recovering it. The 'R' in the second type is simply added to everything. Any help with any of this would be appreciated. new inventory tool questions

Hi all, I'm testing the new inventory tool in HEAD and wanted to as a few questions for the manual: #1 - What does 'Compare barcodes list to results' do? #2 - Why isn't 'Item type' an option to filter on anymore? Usually people have specific items together in the library and would probably want to filter on this. #3 - On the inventory list generated there is a 'Problem' column at the end - what would appear here? Editing Items in non-default framework

Hi all, I noticed that in Koha 3.0.3 it appears not possible to edit items if the biblio record is saved in a non-default framework. There are no Bugzilla reports on it however. In the staff client item data are shown on the item details page generated by moredetail.pl. But Edit items (additem.pl) does not show item data at all. Does anyone of you know this error? Did you resolve it? Thanks! Marcel

Displaying call numbers in Koha Express

Hi, all, We're trying to get Koha Express running (version 3.00.02.012) and we found that the OPAC will not display call numbers in the 852 tag, so we found a utility to transfer call numbers to the 952 tag. Bib records still won't show call numbers, so we are trying to add individual items. Only Koha isn't taking them. Our collection is not barcoded; is that the problem?
