Authority search in SEE FROM TRACING (Field 4XX)
by Beda Szukics 07 Mar '10

07 Mar '10

Hi all I try to use authority records. Searching the controlled terms (in 1XX) works fine. (I had to change "Heading-Main" into "Heading" in C4/AuthoritiesMarc.pm to enable it) But I'm not able to search for the "SEE" references (Fields 4XX). My example: The record with: 100 1# - HEADING--PERSONAL NAME a Personal name Davidov, Carol Julevic d Dates associated wit 1838-1889 400 1# - SEE FROM TRACING--PERSONAL NAME a Personal name Dawidow, Karl Juljewitsch is found if I search with "Davidov", "Carol" or "Julevic" but not with "Dawidow" and so on. How can I make these terms searchable? Greetings Beda BTW: Chronological Terms can't be searched at all.

Configuring Koha to expose Z39.50/SRU services
by Magnus Enger 06 Mar '10

06 Mar '10

Hi, all! According to the documentation at http://koha.org/documentation/faq/could-someone-tell-me-the-exact-steps-i-n… configuring Koha/Zebra to expose Z39.50/SRU services should be as simple as changing to <listen id="publicserver" >tcp:@:9999</listen> in koha-conf.xml. In my experience it has not been that simple. Just doing the above gives a 404 not found message from Zebra. What I have found to work is to copy the server- and serverinfo-elements for biblioserver, and replacing biblioserver with publicserver, so I get both <server id="biblioserver" listenref="biblioserver"> <directory>/var/lib/koha/zebradb/biblios</directory> <config>/etc/koha/zebradb/zebra-biblios.cfg</config> <cql2rpn>/etc/koha/zebradb/pqf.properties</cql2rpn> <retrievalinfo> ... </retrievalinfo> <xi:include href="/etc/koha/zebradb/explain-biblios.xml" xmlns:xi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XInclude"> <xi:fallback> <explain xmlns="http://explain.z3950.org/dtd/2.0/"> <serverInfo> <host>localhost</host> <port>9998</port> <database>biblios</database> </serverInfo> </explain> </xi:fallback> </xi:include> </server> <serverinfo id="biblioserver"> <ccl2rpn>/etc/koha/zebradb/ccl.properties</ccl2rpn> <user>****</user> <password>****</password> </serverinfo> and <server id="publicserver" listenref="publicserver"> <directory>/var/lib/koha/zebradb/biblios</directory> <config>/etc/koha/zebradb/zebra-biblios.cfg</config> <cql2rpn>/etc/koha/zebradb/pqf.properties</cql2rpn> <retrievalinfo> ... </retrievalinfo> <xi:include href="/etc/koha/zebradb/explain-biblios.xml" xmlns:xi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XInclude"> <xi:fallback> <explain xmlns="http://explain.z3950.org/dtd/2.0/"> <serverInfo> <host>localhost</host> <port>9998</port> <database>biblios</database> </serverInfo> </explain> </xi:fallback> </xi:include> </server> <serverinfo id="publicserver"> <ccl2rpn>/etc/koha/zebradb/ccl.properties</ccl2rpn> <user>****</user> <password>****</password> </serverinfo> (Here are the same examples with a bit of formatting, if the above fails: http://wiki.biblab.no/index.php/Hvordan_aktivisere_Z39.50_og_SRU_i_Koha) Has anyone else had the same experience, or found some other workaround? autobarcode MAX value problem
by Chris Morrison 06 Mar '10

06 Mar '10

So there was a discussion going on that relates to my problem in May of '09, in which Joe Atzberger of LibLime said that Koha increments barcodes by checking the current MAX and adding one. Short question: how do I manually change the MAX value? We have around 100K records, and for some reason, Koha is auto-incrementing in the 800Ks. Oddly enough, I can't find any items in our catalog in the 800K's, either. Anyway, it's rather annoying to manually change every number, especially when you have multiple catalogers . . . On a development note, why don't we just have Koha increment from a current position, rather than from the highest? If we delete a large group of records, it would be very useful to be able to assign the old barcodes automatically by starting from the beginning of the "hole." That's what we did with our old system, anyway. So is there a way to do this already, and am I just missing it? Or what variable do I need to change to get Koha to increment from the right place? Thanks, Chris Morrison

Now that Koha-Community.org is the official site, I assume this is where I'm supposed to put press releases. Do we want a separate blog for that? or just a separate category? Thanks Nicole

Koha 3, bulk imported records not showing up in search
by Otis, Perry W Civ USAF AETC AUL/LTIA 05 Mar '10

05 Mar '10

I just installed Koha 3 on a Ubuntu system. It's up and running and now I need to import some MARC records. I have a lot, so I am trying to use bulkimport.pl to do the job. I ran it on a file with about 89000 records and it seemed to run ok. Then I ran rebuild_zebra.pl with the command 'perl -I /usr/share/koha/lib /usr/share/koha/bin/migration_tools/rebuild_zebra.pl -v -b -w'. It gave me an error message about being unable to unlock some files, so I ran it again using sudo. This time it seemed to go without a problem, but when I go to search the OPAC I only get 'no records found' messages. I checked the log viewer and it shows 89000 records added, but they don't seem to be searchable. Any help will be greatly appreciated. //SIGNED// PERRY OTIS Systems Librarian Muir S. WinSCP to Koha VM "lenny" build
by Scott Owen 05 Mar '10

05 Mar '10

Hi all, I just downloaded an setup the most recent Koha VM (Koha_3.01-Release_Configured-VMWare.tar.gz) all is good, and I can get to the web interface(s) no problem and can even connect via Putty, but, for some reason I can't connect to the Koha VM using WinSCP (winscp422.exe)??? I get the error "Cannot initialize SFTP protocol. Is the host running a SFTP server?" Am I missing something?? (like a SFTP server?) Thanks, -S
