Variety of questions about Koha installation
by Amy Schuler 10 Mar '10

10 Mar '10

There are a few things about my Koha installation that I could use some help with. I welcome you to take a crack at any or all of these questions. I am running Koha 3.0001005 on Debian. 1. When I log in to Koha (from the staff interface), why are other libraries listed in the drop down box? Is it possible to get rid of them? I tried deleting them in Admin/basic parameters/libraries and groups, but they won't go away. This may relate to my next question... 2. In the circulation module, I see that for my library patron Betty Smith, there is another person listed as Betty's guarantee. The guarantor, John Jones, is a patron of another unaffiliated library (in fact, a patron of one of those libraries I am trying to delete!) This affiliation has no basis in reality. How can I sever this relationship? 3. Is there a way to limit the number of holdings (issues of a serial) that appear for a journal record? An automatic way to tell Koha that only the last 6 entries should be listed? 4. My database support/IT staff member says that he thinks it easier to back up Koha by backing up the entire virtual machine, rather than running mysqldump. What do you think of this? 5. Last but not least - can anyone tell me if it is possible to clear the import reservoir? Please let me know if you need more information. Thanks! Amy C. Many thanks to Magnus and Owen for chiming in on marking items missing. Our collection is not barcoded but this at least gives me an idea where to start. I really appreciate the help. ======================== Neh-ko, gah-gis-dah-yen-duk. [Other council fires were here before ours.] Cynthia M. Marking items missing?

Hi, gang, I tried browsing the archives for this answer to no avail. How do you mark an item missing in the circulation module? When you do an installation of Koha (on Debian Linux) what port is mySQL on? Do you need to change anything to access it from another machine? (I'm sure I managed to access it before ...) Backing up Koha using AutoMySQLBackup
by ed c 09 Mar '10

09 Mar '10

I am curious if anyone is using AutoMySQLBackup [1] as part of their Koha backup scheme. I saw the script mentioned on a list for a different LAMP project and it looks interesting (and is highly rated). Has anyone else tried this or some other script? Changing the OPAC details screen
by Otis, Perry W Civ USAF AETC AUL/LTIA 09 Mar '10

09 Mar '10

Hi, I'm setting up a Koha 3.0 system and I would like to make some changes to what displays on the details screen. First, I would like to remove the 'Search for this title in:' section. I tried editing the opac-details.tmpl template, but that didn't work. What do I need to do to remove this section? Also, I would like to have the MARC 099 field display on the details screen. How would I do that? Thanks. //SIGNED// PERRY OTIS Systems Librarian Muir S. Fairchild Research Information Center DSN 493-6498 Comm 334-953-8081

Koha 3 Check-out process?
by David M. Bucknell 09 Mar '10

09 Mar '10

Dear Koha Community Members, Is there any connection between the user's cart or list and circulation? That is, should we see a user/patron's requested books when we go to their account and begin to check out items to him or her? I am worried that our installation (koha 3.00.06.008). The manual http://koha.org/documentation/manual/3.0/administration/global-system-prefe… says that "WebBasedSelfCheck" is not yet in the code .... Does that mean that there is no connection between what the user does and what the librarian sees? No communication? I would be very grateful for a pointer to a descriptio from the user/patron's viewpoint of how check-out should work. Suggestions appreciated. Recreating entry 952 in marcxml using "sync_items_in_marc_bib.pl"
by Toni Rosa 09 Mar '10

09 Mar '10

Hello, We are using Koha 3.0.5 to migrate data from another privative ILS. We have managed to import the biblios (using the bulkmarcimport.pl script) and we have been able to Insert the items data directly into the items table. The problem is that the marc definition (the marcxml field in biblioitems) doesn't contain the 952 and thus some parts of koha that expect the items information being there don't work properly. Is there a way to recreate the marcxml field or at least the part of the items? I have seen that there's a script called "sync_items_in_marc_bib.pl" and although I wasn't sure that it could do what we need, after launching it I get this error: # perl -I /usr/share/koha/lib/ ./maintenance/sync_items_in_marc_bib.pl --run-update problem with :14 : :26: parser error : Premature end of data in tag subfield line 26 <subfield code="c">23 cm., r ^ :26: parser error : Premature end of data in tag datafield line 23 <subfield code="c">23 cm., r ^ :26: parser error : Premature end of data in tag record line 2 <subfield code="c">23 cm., r ^ at /usr/lib/perl5/XML/LibXML/SAX/Parser.pm line 31 (...and many more errors about the "bib record being corrupt."...) So summarizing, my two questions are: 1. Again, Is there a way to recreate the marcxml field or at least the part of the items? 2. If the solution is using this "sync_items_in_marc_bib.pl" script, how can I make it work? Thanks, Regards P.S: I already posted this message to the [koha-devel] list. I am sorry about crossposting it, but after sending it I realized that it would make more sense sending such a message somewhere else but to the devel list.
